Very right. Nearly everyone thinks that they can jump on the bandwagon, copy what everyone else is doing and watch the sales multiply. They think that AI will be the end of them having to do any work at all and they will make fortunes. You have to be that 1%. You have to stand out from the mediocre crowd.

Yes, Sean! You’re right. I finally know what I have to do after so many failures. Right now, I’m just focusing on building an audience via Instagram. And after that I already know what I need to do on KDP. Still doing coloring books, but focusing, or laser focusing, on motivation, positive vibes, etc. for one group of people…and that’s it. So, I’m going to work on doing or being the best at that. ❤❤❤

Thank you for addressing this! KZbin is filled with people telling you that you can make $100k per month with minimal effort. Reality is, you can't. Agree with you that it's longevity found in being the best or better than being the first. It's a business and if you're serious and willing to put in the time and learn skills, you'll succeed.

Sean, I want to congratulate and thank you for creating useful video content delivered in a methodical, empathetic, and intelligent way to help people gain clarity and avoid missteps. I like your use of simple infographics and bullet points. You can't imagine the gratitude people feel, like I do, when online educators (or specialists who know what they are talking about) clarify and encourage business creators and artists to prepare better and be honest to themselves - the first step in anything worthwhile. All the best to you, from India.

Preach it. I’m guilty of jumping around a lot from one shiny object to the next - or at least I was once that way. I’ve flipped houses (saturated), wholesaled houses (way saturated), sold online courses (saturated), run a KZbin channel (super saturated), and most recently, started publishing books (guess what?… saturated). There will always be people who complain and people who get things done. The difference is a matter of perspective.

I agree that a good quality book is the important part. And people seem to forget, that since we independently published through KDP, we can take our books down, rework them, and improve them. In 2019 I published my first book, a themed word search. I managed two that year, and about $360 and royalties. It wasn't much, but it kept me in coffee money. I haven't sold a copy this year. Why is that? Because there are better quality looks out there. The software has improved, the covers have improved, books in general are better than when the word search market was fairly new in 2019. So I just took my old data files, and spent about 6 hours reworking the interior. I used fresh puzzle software, to eliminate the problems my reviews had mentioned, I root up different explanations inside on how to solve a word search, put in a call to action, and basically improve my book noticeably. Now I'm going to go find myself be cover designer to get a better, more eye catching, cover, and then work on some A+ content, and relaunch the second edition.

The best books are still written from personal experiences. A book about scuba diving will be so much more engaging if written by someone who has plenty of scuba diving experience. It can go into detail a non scuba diver would have no knowledge of. Even a good colouring book requires a knowledge of the subject of the images and how children use them.

It's over saturated with rubbish because many saw it as purely a get rich quick scheme, rather than really invest in the art of writing, telling a great story (fiction or non fiction). Being a writer is an art and so writing a great piece of work takes time, and this kind of business advice is useful for making the work sell, but it should still be good work with value.

It's like you've always said, publishing on Amazon KDP is much more than just publishing, it's about branding work, not just creating and waiting for Amazon to sell it to you
@bobpage65972 ай бұрын
People need to stop treating KDP as a 'get rich quick' scheme. THAT is why its become saturated to some degree, and poor quality and standards are why there is still a stigma from some around self-publishing. If you want to publish something, at least publish something proper. Put the effort into writing a proper book(s), get it edited, get a professional jacket designed for it. BE professional, create a professional product! There's plenty of writers who achieve success on KDP, but that's because they're not looking for a quick solution and they've genuinely put serious effort into what they are creating.
@Sarutaru06Ай бұрын
"Write a better book," he says, and then proceeds to include having friends/a community that will help you as a requirement for a good book. The quality of a book only determines long-term sales: everything else (including the cover) is just marketing.

@xavierxavier221212 ай бұрын
the other thing is that the market is down now, so people are buying less overall. Anyway, creating something unique and better is NOT enough, Amazon wont even bother to put your in front of people if you dont run ads. When I first launched my book, it was crickets, despite having great content, more than 40+ reviews near 5 star rating. Then the minute I turned on ads, I was getting 1 sale per 1 click, my ACOS was like 4%. The most bizarre experience ever. I was caught in this place thinking that all the effort I put in my book was a waste, now I'm wondering even more so since the whole game seems to be ads. And I cant even make a profit on my sales because I dont have enough sales to offset the ads, and if I boost ads to the upper keywords I'm losing money altogether. The economics are just off. I need to be in a place where I make sales without ad spend. None of these guides really showed this at all, and quite frankly I think the lessons in most of these guru videos is already outdated.
