that is because (I sell on Amazon) Amazon charges more for the last mile than Temu charges for the whole shipment. There is no way Temu is not losing money on every shipment. ^ yes you’re correct. There’s an article they lose on average, $35 per order. But that’s not unusual as Amazon famously hemorrhaged millions (billions?) their first years as well. amazon actually hates shopify-styled dropshipping and bans sellers that attempt to do that on their platform. (Or at least did back in 2020-2022) They were fairly correct that buyers trust their ratings/reviews that are intentionally hidden on the custom storefronts of shopify dropshipping sites However, Temu is taking a route of just selling cheap shit with narrow margins, which is rather different than the dropshipping approach of selling a $2 shirt for $60 and praying some idiot doesn’t know it’s going to be trash. (i.e. the cat’s out of the bag. let’s see if they buy trash now that they know it’s trash.) What’s really interesting is the long delivery times on Temu, whereas Amazon took pride in two-day delivery that obviously isn’t happening with Temu. Very curious whether Amazon is going to protect the two-day delivery branding or let it go. The biggest L here is Etsy, who has succumb to the dropshippers and completely erroded any excuse to buy quirky, creative nonsense that could easily just be getting sent from China as well 😂
