Thats basically the libertarian's whole idea. They want to ONLY pay for whatever they use, so you would pay a monthly fee to use a road, a monthly fee to be able to have your house put out if it catches fire, a monthly fee for garbage collection. So what I learned: To have a tax free economy we would need to live in shacks at dirt roads. And at some point the trash and corpses would start to pile up everywhere ... *Insert Just in Ohio meme*

Pretty much. Some people in the comments have stated in a Libertarian society private companies would build and maintain the roads but I've yet to see why they would do so as well, they're a private company and thus exist to make money. Meaning pretty much profit gouging tolls.
@KarlSnarks
@KarlSnarks Жыл бұрын
@@junova7503 There's a city in India that's basically completely run by corporations. They did actually build their own private infrastructure and services (streets, a subway system, a police force, firefighters) but only built those things where their customers (wealthy corporate types)were. Other parts of the city are absolute shitholes with unpaved roads. Also, since there isn't a sewage system in the entire city, buildings (even the luxury apartments in the wealthy neighborhoods) have septic tanks which are emptied by trucks who dump everything in the river. Here's a video about it kzbin.info/www/bejne/q3WTk4Vtf718bM0

@Zorro9129 Жыл бұрын
@@junova7503 "Profit gouging tolls" How do you define what's profit gouging or not? In reality, the more competition there is, the lower the profits of the competitors because they must charge reasonable rates to remain attractive. Service providers in more attractive areas may be able to charge more as there is more demand, but they still must keep their rates reasonable or lose business. Also Disney is a poor example as people want to work there not for the money but because they want the chance to be part of it. It's similar to volunteers in a military who are being sent to die but think they're part of some greater good.

If I understand this correctly, there is no possibility of establishing private security service providers, medical matters etc. via a contract system. That could be done by the courts. “Work” would then be these private entities and competition would also be allowed. The game doesn't allow for that. Security, medicine, fire departments, education are always in demand. It is only a simulation and can only roughly reflect the extent of human activity.

The amusement park strategy would work better if they were all in one park, as people pay to enter via side gates. Also, you need just enough in the way of attractions in the park zone to make it reach level 5, so you can charge even more money. Just because you don't use a service directly doesn't mean you don't benefit from living in a country that provides that service. The person who made your coffee got to work on the bus. The person who does your taxes went to public school. If every service was funded privately, the only people with access to decent roads, transportation, education, medical care, etc would be the people who could already afford it. Taxes are a prerequisite to having a well developed nation and ironically they ensure equity and freedom (when executed properly).

This is why we need a crowd funding mod but I'm too dumb to know how to code it. There are a few mods that add supercheap services buildings, generally designed for Ancient, Roman and fantasy styles. Those actually work to cut costs.

@@10011110011 I personally believe many services can be folded together like the internal revenue service could be combined with the postal service since the irs needs to know where people are and sometimes needs to send you physical documents and also postal offices can resume banking services at cost like they used to

I think a cool mod would be one that allows you to charge for things like electricity and water usage instead of lumping them in for tax so you have even more stuff to micro manage and give you more fine control over where your money comes from and how you treat your citizens

The problem with taxation (at least in the U.S.) is NOT that it exists...but the absolutely unnecessary horrendously greedy allocation of those funds by our corrupt politicians....Libertarianism should keep the taxes but demand a public record of how every single cent is spent.

As someone who generally considers themselves as a libertarian, it is cool to see people experiment with the idea! I don’t think pure 0% tax is the way, but I see a flat tax is better for anyone who lives above the poverty line, and then the rest of the money should come from sales tax for non essentials! Normal income tax is still essential for things like social security and defense, but the country grows from investments into businesses. I don’t like governments bailing businesses out (other than banks with fdic insurance), but lowering income tax will allow people to invest or spend more! Then increasing sales tax to allow us to maintain our country will make investing more realistic for most people, and will tax the people who have enough money to not care. Imo it’s the most fair way that’s still realistic!

Separating the commercial and residential zoning areas? No, you need to subsidize car dependent infrastructure then skim off the taxes of auto manufacturers and maintenance shops. Very accurate replication of the societal drain of speeding tickets.

Funnily enough: this city has the most transparent tax laws ever created: no paper trails, no tax agencies. Just dirt paths, booths and the flashing lights of the entrances. Plus, you can do the most extreme star gazing ever! Just don't live near the cemetery.

I loved this video. Your attempt to create a libertarian city while operating as a single authoritarian head of state was quite amusing. Made me want a city builder where the people can take independent actions and build the city alongside the state. A sim where npcs suggest building projects and zoning is an important issue. Keep doing what you do.
