This episode was a real gift to the gamers. Joke book. Almost identical dialogue between Joel and Ellie. Bella's really starting to shine as Ellie now. I think she even bears a resemblance to Ashley Johnson. Is that just a coincidence?

Loved the reminder of episode 1 when Sarah falls asleep while watching a movie after saying she wouldn’t fall asleep with Joel and then Ellie falls asleep while driving with Joel after saying she wasn’t even tired. Also, I was so engaged with this episode that I didn’t even realize there was no flashback scene even though I have loved each one in the previous three epsiodes.

The most exciting part of this episode for me was Joel mentioning that gasoline breaks down and becomes less useful over time. Something no other post-apocalypse story seems to address.

So, what I did, before watching the show, was, I watched the TLOU Part1 play thru on KZbin, so I'd have a good idea of what to expect with the story-line, and when the show would deviate from the game. One of the things that they’re getting right here is humanizing people that most entertainment would just brush off as bad guys. Bryan screaming for his mother, a moment of terror where he reverts back to a child-like state, forces the viewer to consider the larger story. Everyone is the hero of their own story but the villain to someone else’s. Joel himself admits that he has killed innocent people. The lines are blurred and this is ultimately just about desperate people trying to survive in a broken world. Living in that scenario, everyone loses parts of themselves along the way and tragically, Ellie is on that path. The second story delves much deeper into tunnel vision versus the larger picture which I’m excited to see.

I had to groan when you commented about Ellie knowing about gun safety, and then "there's no ammo in the gun" when she's posing in front of the mirror, because inknew what was next, and youbdropped it from your YT reaction (presumably to limit footage usage) but a few second after you said that she racked the gun and a bullet came flying out. It was literally taught to me when I was 5, and repeated about every month since until I was 17. "You take possession of a gun, first thing you do is fully check it, with a revolver its just a couple seconds, with a semi-automatic, its a few seconds. Drop the magazine out to your hand, rack the slide to eject anything in the chamber, even when you know it is clear do not point it at anything you don't intend to put a hole in, and never put your finger into the trigger well, unless you expect to be firing it within the next few seconds. If you don't need to fire it, your finger should be well away from the trigger. This is not a toy, a mistake with it can kill or permanently hurt someone. 5:58-6:03 "there should be like, road signs..." If they are using an atlas, which has maps of every state, large format ones *might* include a 4 inch by 4 inch (close to 10 x 10cm) mini map, which will show the MAJOR intersections of the largest 1 or 2 cities. It would be akin to knowing "okay we found the intersection of main and northam streets. About 6 miles north there should be the intersection of Northam and Academy, when we get there we should be able to find the highway if we turn left and travel 10-14 miles. And if that street sign at the intersection is gone, you'll travel another 6 miles before you find another street listed in the mini map.

I still feel like the series is falling short in terms of portraying what the game did atmospherically. Feels like it needs to be a little darker and always have that real sense of danger which post apocalyptic films like ‘I am Legend’ and ‘Book of Eli’ did. I understand it’s a TV series but the show isn’t a 10/10 IMO.
