@johnsheetz6639 Жыл бұрын
Yeah you got to be careful for that even if they do hold air the trade can fly off on those old dry rotted tires I had one that flung the whole tread off I still had air I was riding on the wires though
@CAROLDDISCOVER-1983 Жыл бұрын
@@johnsheetz6639 I threw rubber on my approximately 1989 Ford 3/4 ton two wheel drive. Glad I had real truck tires on it. We slowed it down from highway speeds to about 40 miles an hour. Got it off the road hello ways down and let the spare on it. Went down the road 10 MI again at interstate speeds. Through the rubber off the spare that we had just put on there. Now that tire was the factory original spare for that truck I am reasonably sure. About then I think my boy was 14 or so and he said Dad what else can happen.? I said please never ask that question cuz it'll happen. Let me down road at 40 miles an hour on the casings and when I say Casey not talking about sleeper dude 88. I like his channel as well. But I'm talking you can see the chords cuz that's all that was left. What happened the other Tire I'm back through the casing sorry to try it off and. I end up driving about 60 miles pulled into little town decent tire shop. The guy came out and looked at my truck went back in got every employee had five or six of them I believe pointed out at my truck and asked him what you think you needs? I was glad they all said tires. Even today many many years later I still got that truck with those new tires for my guy shop at the truck just sits in the barn. But I was a Good Samaritan went back and picked up my tread each time and put it in the back of my flatbed. Hell this is getting too long for a reply. I was just going to attach to the bumper of a push truck I've got on the farm. I did ask the owner of the tire shop if you could recap my tires and put the tread back on. I did it was such a straight face he just shook his head and we both have good laugh we're still friends this day. All three of those tires had 90% rubber and I guess that's the goal to say you just never know and they were not a Chinese knockoff Tire matter fact they're pretty expensive common brand and you don't buy them at a we sell everything department store.

Well, for anyone unfamiliar with AMC: The three small bolts that hold the drum to the hub on the rear need to be removed. Typically, one or two or all three of them are removed and lost over the decades since the cars were built. They don't really need to be reinstalled since the wheel holds the drum to the hub. Their main purpose was to keep the drums from falling off in the factory before the wheels are installed on the car. Other car companies used little flat clips which disintegrate the first time you pull the drum for service. So, since he did not unscrew those three (all three were still present) small bolts, he used the puller. I was frankly surprised the bolts didn't break before the hub came off the axle. That puller is very valuable for servicing the brakes in a 1964 or older Mopar or for serving the axle for the AMC Javelin. But it is not needed at all to service the BRAKES on the Javelin.

The AMC/Dana model 20 rear end the castle nut keyway liked to shear off sending your tires flying. Fortunately companies like Moser make solid axles for the rear end. Once you do that that’s rear end is practically bulletproof.

I used to have a Javelin long ago and miss having that car, but the body was rusting away and I was heavy into kart racing and sold it and the project AMX I had. With regards to that rear brake drum, you did not need to remove the hub from the axle. Those two piece axles from AMC were a major weak point in the drive line. But the drum could have been beaten off of the hub breaking the rust bond free. I had installed a Ford nine inch rear in mine as the motor had some go fast parts on it.

It's a shame that Javelin is so rusty and crusty. I had a 69 AMX back in the early 90's with the 315 HP 390 and the Borg Warner M11 3-speed auto trans. What a fun and QUICK little ride that was! I honestly enjoy your channel the most of any of the auto repair, reanimate, restore ad well you get the idea. I just heard you say that you will be able to put more content out, possibly and I think this is great! I watch quite a few similar channels and I must say that your channel is my favorite by far. I think its amazing how well organized your space is and all you have to do is walk right to any tool gadget, nut bolt or fitting like it is all computer organized. I really hope you plan to pump out more content now that the shackles are off so to speak. I was so jealous to see that Javelin SST 390 because at one time i had one just like it. To my next point…. I have a project car I would love to donate to your channel if you think you may want to take it on. It may be easy for you or it may be a challenge…? Anyways if I have sparked your interest, you should get back to me when you can. I live about 600 or so miles from you in Wilmington, NC. Sincerely, Vincent

I will snap some pictures and be as detailed as I can.The car has a title and all the # are still on or with the car except for the engine. The body and frame and interior are 1979 Triumph Spitfire convertible. When I was still able, I removed the body from the frame and strengthened wherever needed. With the body off I was able to add a very special driveline to the car. A 1992 Fairlady 300ZX engine with a five speed transmission. I built the drive shaft and put all together before I put the body back on. I say the driveline is special only because I ordered it from Osaka Japan, right hand drive. All the wiring and computer and sensors are with it. I put the body back on and that is pretty much where I had to stop. I stopped for two reasons, my health failed me and I also didn't really have the knowhow to take it the rest of the way. I was able to get it cranking, but I just didn't have the know how to separate all the unnecessary wires and the fuel system was the other hurdle. If I get a nice day tomorrow I will get out and snap some pictures. Lots of parts to reinstall and some of the work I did could more than likely be redone or rethought. I will get those pics out to ya.

FYI That tapered flange on the brake drum welded to the centre of the braking surface is a very effective heat sink. Compared to a chevelle with 4 drums the javelin would slow much more before having to lift and re apply the brakes from heat induced brake fade. The chevelle would get from 60-about 35 before lift, but the javelin would get to about 20mph before lift. That odd looking piece of almost tin was way more effective than all the fins chevy could fit on their drums.

Hello, you get almost every car running. I have a question about a 1999 Chevy Blazer with a 4.3 L Vortec engine. He jerks when accelerating in the cold as well as in the warm state, in the partial load. At full load it doesn't do that. There's nothing at idle either. Spark plugs, ignition cables, distributors were changed. Maybe you have an idea what that could be. And sorry for the english, I let google translate. Your videos are really awesome, greetings Andy from Germany.
