@RATechYT I am running very high stress test and my vcore is at 1.404v when I set up my vcore In my bios I dropped that from 1.775v to 1.745v atm the moment my vcore is stable at 1.404v and my CPU(Tctl) and TSI temperatures are stable at 34 degrees

what cpu has ever gained performance over the years rather then losing performance? thats whats blown many of my friends away who bought 2500k/2600k/2700k chips or even x980/980x(?), i saw prox a 10% average perf gain just moving from windows 7 to 10, thats impressive as fuck to me.....since i was already matching or beating them in many games (ones with half decent multi core support)

@@NicheNick2003 Me too. Can do 5 Ghz on a 9590 @ 1.42v. Yes, its stable and yes, its a good chip. IMC is very good too, pushed 2133 Mhz no problem, while being undervolted. Heat was a little problem though, went to 70 ish degrees, didnt like it, so I let it ran at 4.7 @1.332v.

The FX 9590 did not come with a water cooler because AMD felt that a 120mm radiator would be inadequate for a 220w TDP CPU. That is why they were sold seperately. I know because not only did I buy one shortly after launch, I handled some of AMD's marketing after that.

fx8320e or 8370e are the much better options honestly. it can be overclocked to 4.7 or even 5 ghz while needing less voltage than the fx9590 so it has less power consumption and produces less heat

Like a lot of other folks with FXs still, it largely because of financial struggles. As someone who is saving up for a new machine at a snails pace, having to learn PC out of necessity, I'm hugely appreciative of this. Drawing blood from stones ain't easy, but at least there's a video tutorial! :P

that's a lot of work you did here. i just put mine at 4.7ghz and 250mhz bus speed, upped the voltage a little bit and also overclocked the ram, it's been going on for almost 2 years without a problem.

I know hardware pretty well, I've played around with my FX-8320 quite a bit and could never seem to get a good overclock! This video showed me exactly what I did wrong, and how I can do better. I also have an ASUS MA99X motherboard with ample capability to do this.

Pretty solid video, probably better than Jays2Cents old video where i used his video as a spring board to get my old gold-sample FX-8350 from stock to 4.5Ghz without any problems. To clarify, i realized it was a gold sample later when i tried to reach 4.7Ghz and that also was reachable with fairly ok temps, half a year later (about 2015 late). Then about 1.5 years later i got myself the 400C case, a new far better AIO cooler, and upgraded away from Gelid over to thermal grizzly, and after tuning the processor for about let's say a month, i got to 5Ghz. I learned that you need a good set of RAM, fine-tune the NB speeds on their own in combo with the RAM, and separately, first, find a stable frequency area for your processor. This way i quickly reached 4.9Ghz, then 4.95Ghz, and finally i maxed out my gold sample at about 5.08Ghz but that made it become fairly unstable so i had to settle for a 24/7 use frequency of approximately 4.98Ghz. I flat out took the userbenchmark score which i posted a long time ago on the AMD subreddit but i dunno why they deleted my run so at least the subreddit got the evidence of my run. What to learn from me here is that i deliberately went for a HEAT run. So i got to about 82C max, which would shorten the life of my CPU significantly since these older chips aren't as well designed against silicone degradation via heat as with modern products. In fact, Intel straight don't care and let their CPU's burn up just to win the performance battle - sad as f for you and me (customers)... But my FX-8350 gold sample (just sheer luck!) let me render countless videos, is actually fairly efficient at rendering overall VS Intel, still performs damn nicely at 1080p medium and mix settings, and is worth the price if you find a used steal with a good mobo and cooler. What i WILL say however is that you would make a mistake if you bought that, seeing how a low-tier ryzen rig actually beats it fairly hard. So don't feel down if you cannot upgrade yet. But beware if you somehow consider this old platform. It's a very underrated part of PC hardware, but AMD have made it's age show even more than what Intel has. Good job AMD!

Yeah, remember watching Jays video a few years back and with my little amount of overclocking knowledge I found the tutorial to be just messy and not straight forward, but apparently most people that used his guide think otherwise. Maybe that was just me. Surprisingly people are still buying FX CPUs. Some get it cause they find a good deal, some apparently have no clue about Ryzen.

@@RATechYT jayz vid is ok, i got far more from overclockers.net (i think it was..) thread that covered several oc methods and the results. @Yellow: you may get better overall results using even slightly lower cpu clocks like 4.8 and turbo to 5, my gold sample(now in a friends system, since his may or may not play nice with the 9370 i had (newegg sent 2 wanted me to pay to send the extra back....i was like...no....3 tries(once a day) later i decided i would just keep the extra chip, 2 years later i took my thermalright silver arrow extreme sb-e off and decided to try the 9370 and realized just how golden my 8350 was, 4.6 at stock settings 24/7, 4.7 was pretty easy, i could get 4.9x 100% stable, but found that 4.6 with a turbo of just under 5ghz actually gave me similar results with far lower heat and power draw, and, honestly, was fun to mess with, its another challenge, because some boards only turbo 1/2 the cores, others, when you start ocing, will turbo all cores, either way, you may have to tweak things up or down, i actually was able to do the turbo with a fairly small + offset and moving the llc up a notch, i miss the gold sample. now that i got this 280mm cryorig with dual noctua high pressure fans on the rad, im thinking about seeing if this 9370 will play nice with a bit more oc fun, its def a high leakage chip... kinda wish we could have gotten 8370's at the time, but nobody had them in stock, they where selling out pretty fast, and the 9370 and 9590 had been going on sale for pretty cheap at the time as well... either way, its kinda fun to see what you can get using different modes and methods to overclock, one warning you should give people, outside gold sample chips, Asus optimized mode for LLC is never the best choice, and will most often seriously hamper/limit your overclocking potential, but with a true gold sample sometimes it can let you go beyond what the default options will allow for. thats a nice cpu, some places inthe world, you can get an FX board/chip/ram for the price of even a lower tier ryzen cpu, that will perform about the same or worse depending on the situation.(saying this having tested it myself, a ryzen 3 or 5 low end chip, will not be a better option then fx, unless you are getting a really great combo deal and plan to upgrade the cpu fairly quickly) i wouldnt recommend this as a top choice, but if your budget gives you this or a cheap chinese xeon rig as options, get the FX setup if the boards half decent (msi 970 game or better) you wont feel like your suffering too much, the fx line actually gained performance with win 10 vs 7, the OS knows how to handle and use these cpus, and unlike intel chips of the same era/age as the FX line, amd chips have avx and fma, allowing you to play games and use apps that will not run on chips that do not support these instructions. anyway, i sent my gold sample 8350 to a buddy who i linked this video today, since he hasnt tried to oc it yet, but really needs to... i miss that chip... these chips hold up shockingly well, i can recommend Nvidia over AMD gfx though, i say this because nvidias drivers make better use of multi core, and can multi thread games that arent well optimized, the dif in designs between amd and nvidia gfx wise, mean that nvidia cards take better advantage of these 8c/8t chips, i went from dual 290x trixx cards running stilts bios, to a single zotac 1070mini, according to the research i did before buying, i was expecting to get slightly better perf on specific titles, and worse on others, instead, at worst i was matching my dual 290x setup, at best, i was destroying it.... I game at 4k and honestly, the only games i dont get 58-60fps solid at 4k, are those that i get the same fps at low or high res, low or high settings, like ESO, that, i have been assured by some of the devs, should be getting an update to improve the threaded performance, apparently they are working with the developers of hero engine(the engine they used) and want to be sure that any major engine update they do, wont have unexpected negative consequences, i can respect that, he also told me they now have 4 FX based test systems in the lab, because, they see more and more people using them over the last few years, and the fact they had perf issues on those systems and some intel systems that in some ways where similar, caused them to get ahold of some systems to test on... 2 of the FX systems run amd gfx, 2 run nvidia, they plan to get a few more so they can test 2070, 1070, 1660ti, 1050, and the amd equals on both fx and some older xeon and i3/i5/i7 hardware, after i showed them how cheap it was to get hardware from china to test some of these configs... apparently they also plan to test on APU based setups because, their own hardware survey showed quite a few of those in use, mobile and not, and they had not actually properly tested that in house...and found they needed to have better default profiles for them... i would say, the FX line held up better then anything intel has made over the years, i mean, it GAINED PERFORMANCE OVER TIME, show me an intel cpu that via simple os upgrade, gained 10% perf (sometimes more, sometimes a bit less, but, that more can be shocking...like from "this game is nearly playable no matter what i try" to "this game actually runs ok now, not excellent but, at least im getting 50-60fps solid now... rather then 20-30..)

Süleyman Emre sure thing. With a liquid cooler to keep temps down, I disabled all of the stock restrictions like cool n’ quiet and oc genie in the bios, then went up to x23 cpu ratio for a 4.6 OC, going up to 1.4 volts. I also bumped up my ram to 1866 to get a bit more speed out of an old kit.

I built this retro rig in 2020 using the same mobo and FX 9370, I also got Vega64 in it and WDBalck 750 NVME drive using PCI- Express adapter and a BIOS mod that allows it to detect NVME SSDs. This is my secondary PC, so far it runs pretty quick.

I used my FX 6300 at 4.5 GHz with Vcore at 1.42V, with NB at 2.6 GHz, for the last 6 years. Temperatures did vary between 64 to 84C, but I never had an issue. I could reach 4.6 GHz on the CPU, but my cooler was immediately overwhelmed and I never bothered upgrading it.

My fx 8350 has been overclocked for over 2 years now running at 4.522 with only 1.375V and perfectly stable. Asrock 990FX Fatal1ty motherboard and cooled with Corsair H80i V2 never ever reached 70C

I have fx 8350 and 16 gb ram and from the day I bought it I have only changed monitors, now I am on IPS Asus and GPUs from 2012 Radeon HD 5000 series, then 6700 series, Nvidia then RX 570 and now RX 5600 xt sapphire. Every time I change GPU I have a feeling that I have a new rig. My black and beauty NZHT case also give it eternity to the never ending story:) I love my fx 8350, world record holder in overclocking for so many years. I will use it till the last day. Don't wanna change the best silicone in 8350.

oh, another FX user. We're a dying breed. I'm still running a FX8320 @5GHZ on air myself. Most important performance tip for FX 8k or 9k users. BRING YOUR HT/BUSS to 2600! This is more important than any amount of OC due to how the FX access's its memory controller and l3 cache. ie, we're talking 10-30+ min fps difference in most current titles just by changing that and leaving the clock speed at stock. Best of both worlds is to do both, but prepare to deal with 200+ TDP, My 8320 @ 5ghz, plus 2600 ht/buss will hit 300+, but only 180-225 at 4.4 GHz and 2600 Buss.

I highly respect you I run an fx 6300 in my system and I have a stable 4.4ghz overclock from a base clock of 3.4. fx processors are wonderful for budget systems that want to save a few $ and can put the leftovers on a gpu or storage Psu- generic 750watt MB- asus (can't remember model) micro atx Gpu- Radeon rx550 (overclocked) Cpu- FX 6300 six core with 4.4ghz overclock (from base clock of 3.4 As for FPS almost all games run 60fps on AAA titles and over 100fps (average) on e-sport games At 1080p medium settings

Ah! So I need to activate XMP profile to OC on my gigabyte! I got to check this out :) And yes your OC is the true "sacred OC" :) Thank you. 1. I would add that NB and power phases will greatly benefit from active cooling. Especially if MB is not one of the true overclocking motherboards. Like... you need to do it, if you dont want your MB to die too soon. 2. Another moment. Your video is about overclocking and its great, but... Ton of people are afraid of even thinking about overclocking. So it would be nice to add that due to some tech reasons FX processors win a lot from having fast memory. Not many ppl know that minimum memory speed to run FX CPU properly is 1866. Many people got 1600 or even 1333 and they suffer from abysmal performance of their FX CPUs. 3. Even getting your NB from 2000 to 2200 in combination with memory going from 1600 to 1866 will increase performance in games. Stutters and framerate drops might disappear! Even without OC of CPU.

btw an update... I've killed 1 of my 4Gb 2 sticks. I guess 1.65V was too much. They refuse to work in dual channel now or sometimes one of them is simply not detected. Luckily I had 2 2GB sticks, so I still have a dual channel, but sadly only at 1600Mhz. It used to be 1866. Welp... overclocking is always a risk, I knew what I was doing :)

The Bulldozer series CPUs are really bottlenecked by the I/O (from the decoder to the memory bandwidth). Most programs we see in the consumer market require a combination of the compute power of the CPU and memory access. Faster memory access (RAM speed and NB speed) can greatly increase the performance by feeding the cores faster and greatly reduce stuttering. Generally, the CPU needs to fetch data from RAM, do some computing and write back. Just increasing the cores' speed won't help much because you need faster access to the memory. The time CPU has to wait for memory access is wasted time and will result in inconsistent frame rates in games.

Reality Good Tutorial , but i woudlnt recommend to turn back on the powersavers if you Using LLC because it Raises the Vorlage Up to 1.65V

Also you just need to offset the voltage to stay on safe voltages. High LLC + low voltage offset rather than Low LLC + higher fixed voltage.

I had this saved in my watch later so I can overclock my brother's FX 8300. He upgraded to that CPU from the Athlon x4 640 that I gave him. I managed to get it to 4.0ghz but temp-wise I can only manage to get it to 3.8ghz. Got better scores in Cinebench and did Prime95 for 30 mins straight.

Good tutorial. I especially like the guidance on concrete numbers for voltages. On my machine I can get 4.5 GHz and 2.6 GHz NB stable. Though I cannot overclock the RAM at all. Guess the modules aren't capable of supporting more than 1600 MHz.

I doubt that it's a RAM thing, possibly some kind of setting in the BIOS that does not let you go any further.

It is similar to the problem that Gigabyte users have. I couldn't overclock my RAM from 1600 Mhz to 1866 Mhz even using 1.7v, but later I found out that X.M.P. profile has to be enabled if I want to overclock the RAM on my 990FXA-UD3. Even if you have half- decent RAM sticks you should be able to at least push the frequency to 1866 Mhz without using too much voltage.

@@RATechYT hm interesting. I went back into the BIOS to check. I have an Asus MB which has lots of settings to fine-tune memory, most of which I have no idea what they do. However I could not find anything labeled X.M.P. Anyway, it's not the end of the world if I can't overclock my memory :-)

It should be labeled as D.O.C.P. Go to AI Tweaker - AI Overclock Tuner and select D.O.C.P. option, you will get a D.O.C.P. setting right below the Memory Frequency, and select a profile. Give it another try, maybe it will work.

I've done maybe 12 FX systems with msi 970 gaming, gigabyte ud3p, crosshair5 formula, gigabyte 990fxa-UD7 so safe to say I know a thing of 2. Nice overall, I will say those voltages are a bit high but you're right its not worth doing more than 4.4-4.5ghz on fx, also the difference in NB overclocking is very small, was worth doing with K10 not so much with fx which comes clocked +20% from factory anyway. You missed HPC mode in the bios though, not enabling it can lead to the cpu throttling faster under stress which means you pass the stress test and think the cpu is stable when it may not be, I would also not suggest going over 1.4V for the most part this should be enough for these chips. Max core temps you're allowed is 70*c and also something you didnt mention is socket temps have a maximum of 70*c also whichever comes first and even if you have really good cooling (water block) the socket temps can hold you back so its important to keep an eye on them, also putting a fan over a vrm heatsink (even the best boards) is a very good idea. There are few boards out there with a true 8 phase vrm, the msi 970 gaming for example is a 3+1 phase with doubled components and niko mosfets, its a piece of crap hence allot of people have a "leakage" problem where the thermal pad sweats from overheating even on stock systems. The best gigabyte boards are the ud3p and UD7 are a 4+1 phase with doublers which is fine. The crosshair boards are a tough one, I have done a VRM teardown and can see no doublers for the "10 phases" but also there were no 10 phase controllers on the market with the best being 8 phases so chances are its a fat 4+1 phase with high current mosfets. Asrock are dogshit stay away. So really the only boards you should do high overclocks on are the ud3p, ud7 and crosshairs and maybe msi gd65 with a fan. Oh and fsb overclocking shouldnt be bothered with, even when trying to oc ram or NB, its just not worth the hassle.

@@sandwich.entity3810 Ideally.... teardown the system, remove the vrm heatsink, clean the area with 99% isopropyl alcohol, put it all back (inc thermal pad) and see how low you can get voltages at stock clocks, OR maybe just try not to go over say 1.3v, Anything you can do to keep the power draw through the vrm down (Volts x Amps=Watts).

@@tomstech4390 I did this, except I didnt reuse the thermal pad, instead I sanded the washers, that hold the heatsink away from the MOSFETs, untill the heatsink was flush and then used thermal paste... Is it bad that I've done it this way? Temps are fairly normal and no throttling, I'm still running my 4.5Ghz OC and I have a fan on the heatsink.

Dear Ra Tech, I very much appreciate the detailed explanation and advice you have given to perform a valid overclocking of an AMD FX series processor. I combination have the same processor, motherboard (rev 4 and BIOS F3) and graphics card you used in the video. I also have the same configuration at 4.520 Mhz (20x226) and RAM at 2.110 Mhz, HTlink at 2.712 Mhz and NB at 2.486 Mhz. Vcore at 1,416 v. Everything has been stable for about 6 years, acceptable temperatures even in full load (only the temperatures of the VRM are a little too high) I use a Noctua NH-D14. What I can't do is activate the Dynamic Vcore (dvid) offset, which so far I've tried to have a total of 1.42 volts, it works when I restart, but if I turn off the PC and turn it back on, it doesn't start and I have to perform a clear CMOS. I did not test with high voltages up to 1.45625 as you did, because it seems to me a voltage too high for my needs, and I fear higher temperatures in full load I would like to have your suggestion about it. Congratulations on your professionalism and display skills.

I had a similar issue where the PC wouldn't boot and I believe reflashing the BIOS to the previous version fixed the problem, though I'm not sure if that was the actual solution. Give it a try, but if that doesn't help, I don't know what else could be causing this problem.

My FX 4350 at 4.9ghz got Single 115cb and Multi 390 on Win10. Whatever you do keep temps below 60c(Idealy below 55c) and voltage below 1.55v and to know what your actual voltage is, use HWINFO64 to monitor VCore voltage and for cpu temps watch AMD FX...... Enhanced(cpu package) for the right temps or core temp program. And ofc your motherboard should have atleast min. 6 phase vrm with Heatsink, if it has 8+ phase vrm then there is nothing to worry about. But if you have 4 phase vrm without heatsink then 4.5ghz should be your limit on FX 4000(4core) and more than 4cores are dangerous without heatsink to even run at stock, but even that is not 100% sure because every cpu needs different voltage to maintain its speed(ghz). As for NB Overclock 2600mhz on NB/CPU voltage don't go past 1.4v start with 1.25v and if you are not stable then 1.3v should do it for 2600mhz. For NB Overclock use NB/CPU voltage, don't touch other voltages like NB. Usualy for 4Core cpu you need 150W TDP Cooler and for 6-8Core go for something like Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 4(Height 162mm) or Noctua nh-d15(Height 165 mm) or a 240mm radiator like the Arctic Liquid Freezer II 240, but as i said every cpu needs different voltage to maintain the speed you want them to run so they will produce different heat aswell. Use Prime95 to stress your CPU for stability or IntelBurnTest AVX, but as i said stay below 60c if your cpu hits 60c stop the benchmark and lower your voltage,clocks or buy a better cpu cooler. On Ram overclocking i don't know much yet, but for now DDR3 Rams can run 1.9v they say but for 24/7 you need to stay below 1.7v most ram XMP's are at 1.650v for example G.Skill's 2400mhz. Other than that stock rams can run 1.5v 1600mhz with timings 9 9 9 26 i think this DDR3 spec not sure, one way to reduce ram letancy is the last timing Command T. Anyway thats all i know, use Memtest86 to finalize your Stability test on your ram it usualy takes 30min for each pass so for 3 passes i guess 1h and 30min, but before you do that first run the memtest to see that your ram at stock speeds has 0 problems and then play with it. One way to do it is go to your ram timings and leave everything on auto and put your ram voltage to 1.6-1.65v where you want your voltage to be and then run the mhz you want for example 1866-2400mhz now save and restart, if your system boots go in bios again and watch the timings your motherboard placed for your ram those will be your starting point if you want to overclock your ram Or you can keep 1866mhz and try to overclock that to see how much you can lower your 4 starting timings and your last T command(the ideal T is 1). and use programs like Maxxmem2 to see how much letancy your ram has or anyother i don't realy know a good program for ram benchmark, as for stress you can use Prime95 to stress your memory aswell for quick stress as you OC and when you see your ram limits lets say mine was 1866mhz 10 11 10 30 T2 at 1.5v and now is 1866mhz 9 10 10 29 T1 1.65v and its stable with prime95 memory stress so your last step is to test it with MemTest86 to see if its realy stable without any errors. Those are all i know on ram for now. Don't touch HT-Link because from my experiance it doesn't help, instead it makes your keyboard,mouse unstable so i don't recommend tweaking HT-Link. And lastly your Case should have 2 intake fans and 1 exhaust fan minimum, one fan will give air for your cpu the other one will help your gpu and the exhaust fan will take all the heat out. You can have 3 intakes and 2 exaust etc. aslong as you keep the airflow at one direction(from left to right or from right to left) you are good. And i recommend to not use BCLK for overclock because its overclocking everything even your m.2 ssd so i would stay away from BCLK, overclock one part at a time for example start with your CPU Overclock while staying below 60c find your perfect MHz and voltage for stability then go for your NB overclock it 2600mhz(my NB is not stable at 2800mhz) and run Prime95 Blend all above or only Memory see that you are stable then move on to the next part you want to overclock like ram. BCLK is for you to get every % you can get from your OC but before you try to mess with BCLK, you need to find your systems Limit without BCLK. Warning! Stay Below 60c On CPU and below 1.55voltage, On NorthBridge use CPU/NB voltage to overclock and don't go above 1.4volt. And OFC Don't buy AMD FX System, if you happen to have AM3 FX 4000 system with good motherboard 6 or 8 Phase vrm dropping FX 8350 if you can find it for cheap will make your system perform much better. Go for Ryzen or 8-10gen INTEL if they are cheaper and perform better. Overclocking is not dangerous if you are smart, check your CPU online to see your safe temp and voltage and then overclock but on new systems like Ryzen and Intel 9-10gen you don't need to overclock because they are already running near their limit. Oh and LoadLine High is usualy the right spot, but if you need little more voltage but you don't want to increase the number you can try ultrahigh, use HWINFO64 to monitor your VCore voltage.

I appreciate you bro recently decided to pull my first pc build back out got into a giant mess with ny second build bottlenecks all over the place even the my original was a weaker pc all the parts in it were well picked and my gpu was a major bottleneck could b ot reach 60 fps unless I played in 720p which was very difficult ended up building and entirely new pc but all I needed to do was upgrade the gpu in this one running a gtx 1660 super with the amd fx6300 have a ssd and a hard drive western digital blue games run at lower fps but the gameplay experience is better I have more time to react in fps games and I have noticed higher detail this has given me great insight for my next pc build basically you know I messed up when I say my second build has a intel core i7 7700 paired with a rtx 3070 ti it was unplayable but my graphics card has a switch on it and says performance/quiet mode once I figured that out i switched to quiet mode and then I could play in 1080 with240 fps with the gpu being 100% utilized and my gpu time and cpu time were even at 4ms each I was able to overclock to 4.4 ghz with my amd fx 6300 and gpu time was 6 while cpu time was 8 in all low settings want to achieve 5.0ghz to even everything g out and hit a stable 120 fps

Auto is not stock voltage, make sure you manually enter your voltage otherwise your motherboard will be just adding voltage for you and it could be at 1.5v for all you know (in theory).

Brings me old memories.. But yes good to see an updated guide. I had a fx 8370 on a msi gaming 970 mobo. Higheet stable I got was 4.8ghz at 1.45v, a nb at 2600mhz w/ 2133 ddr3 sticks. Buuuuutt one time an oc failed and the mobo sent a 1.6v spike to the chip. Its memory controller wasnt a happy camper after that. Numerous memory management bsods then came aaaa. Tabs in firefox would first crash then later it would bsod.

FX chips still are amazingly capable - and you can overclock the crap out of them and they still run cool. I've had three FX8350 -and one FX 8370 my 8370 overclocked to 4.82 on a sabretooth board (aircooled in a Corsair Air 540) under load it only goes to about 32 degrees (will all fan slots full with cheap 120 mm fans) - I still have one 8350 on an old Crosshair Formula V clocked at 4.72 which I use every day at work. FX are still very relevant...though I aso use an overclocked Ryzen 1600X. I never went beyond 1.3875 Vcore...

For you folks stuck with GIGABYTE boards and Memory kits without XMP profiles, or with FX setups running more than two RAM sticks at once, you can still get reasonable performance out of those unoverclockable memory setups by tightening the most out of your timings as possible. Be aware that the DDR3 controller on the CPU might need a bit of more voltage to achieve stability, alongside the memory needing more voltage as well, though. Depending on your kit is the result, although some kits can reach some absurd timings at those low frequencies. I have this odd dual kit running alongside my FX 9590, which is the HyperX Fury 4x8GB sticks running at 1333MHz (The ones without XMP profiles), with stock timings (Detected by the BIOS) of 10-10-10-25 (Channel A) and 10-10-10-24 (Channel B) respectively, however, those timings were too tame compared to the specified ones on the official site, being 9-9-9, CAS latency not specified though. However, after investing a good whole two hours tightening each timing, I got it to go as low as 8-9-8-15 @ 1333MHz/1.56v, making my memory kit hit performance levels between those of running it at 1600MHz and 1866MHz respectively, more or less a 40+FPS gain in games like DOOM Eternal and around 80+FPS in league of legends, alongside a heat output increase from the CPU, so it is very noticeable that it is working far more efficiently than before, and occasional frame dips went completely away by doing this.

Also overclocked my Zotac 1060 6Gb getting +250 on Speed and Memory. I'm running quite high temps around 70°C but thats on a Zalman air cooler and the same 5 year old paste!

Thank you for this guide. It’s almost 2024 and I’m still using the FX 8350 to game paired with a 980 ti and it’s holding ok even at 3440x1440 resolution which is what I use! I know that setup sounds atrocious for today and I had to use a demanding resolution at that lol Nevertheless with this OC guide I can get high 50s fps in modern warfare 2 2023 and 40s in red dead redemption 2 which are the two games I play the most right now.

Nice guide! I did the same things many years ago. I am limited with my mobo. It is a GA 890FXA-UD5 2.0 but managed to run FX-8350 even it is not supported by the motherboard. So the limit is the memory speed. Only supports up to 1866 MHz . With all the combination method i went all the way up to 5 GHz. Normally i use it @4.8. So everything is OCed. I can have +20% avg performance. With the ram , it could be even higher.

Great tutorial. The only thing I don't recall you bringing up is spread spectrum needing to be disabled. I can't tell you how many people have come to me because their PC was blue screening like mad and it's because that setting is always on by default.

Nice work on the content, thank you. 7 years ago I wanted to play some ArmA 3, but wanted to use Handbrake for some transcoding. I would have liked to acquired an Intel at the time, but was not going to spend a grand on a processor. My FX-8350 w/ 32G DDR3 @ 1600 with a Syba PCIe M.2 adapter to use my WD Black 256 NVME drive in it once again. Odds are against my using my other Win 10 Pro, but more than likely Debian 10.2 distro is a runner up for some of the tasks that I want to do, not to mention the hardware support is simpler at times. Closing with humor on the fact that my FX is not being used in a data center, and that I actually pay for my electric bill it is amusing to think about those who complain about wattage and power consumption. Can we find a gamer who compares their cost of their beverages and/or snacks to their computers power bill cost. ;) lol

Gotta be careful overclocking the Northbridge, Some boards are known to get worse performance at a higher clock for some reason, think that is why some boards wont allow for northbridge multi adjustments. HT-Link all the testing I did on my FX8320 and 8320e, that didn't change a single thing performance wise.

I remember when my fx begun to show it's age,and i decided to overclock it a little to buy time for upgrading. m5a78l/usb3 didn't like that idea,burnt cpu power plug pins,i don't know why those were weakest but they were black and it started to drop clocks when under load at stock settings after that. My friend has that same mobo and he managed to get a little black color on those pins with fx6300 without oc,so definitely not an oc board :D And yes, both power supplies were fine,contact was good and my old fx8320 is now at friends rig,working perfect without dropping clocks

Overclocking is a lot of work. Reboots, sometimes a corrupted system. FX cpu's with a good board and cooler and case airflow lots of times you can get a 1 GHz or better overclock. But like he said there is more to it than just changing your multiplier for a good overclock.

I'm motherboard limited and can barely hold 4.3GHZ without starting to throttle, been thinking if I should stick a fan blowing onto the VRM heatsink or just stay as is, because I've been comparing your overclock with my settings and i actually have a really good performance, almost on par with all besides cinebench r15, i only get 650 points if i set the priority in task manager to high or real time, dunno why. My settings and mobo: NB at 2400 1.4v, ASRock Fatal1ty 990FX Killer, 2400mhz 16GB RAM 1.6v - settings by XMP FX8350 at stock(ish), HT 2600mhz Still a beast! :) If i had more patience I'll probably have this with a fan on the vrm and overclocked, but again i guess i have a good performance already, quick blender bmw test just cut 50 seconds of render from 4ghz to 4.3ghz
