This is a great video. The “sad” fact is - you kinda only realize what you need want by carefully planning your system out OR 18 months after you’ve built it and you’re planning you’re next upgrade and you realize the board doesn’t accommodate the upgrade you want. To anyone who was listening - that was Tech’s best advice - try to think one or two steps out - to make sure the board will be able to handle your system’s needs as your build evolves. Pretty much all boards can handle your system -TODAY-. And pretty much much all high end boards can handle your build in the future - the trick is to not get so crappy that it can’t handle your needs, and not get so high end that it way over does it. Easier said than done - but if you do it right it can make a HUUUGE difference over time - in terms of elongated the life of your build, adding features, reliability, improving satisfaction, saving money. It’s a bigger deal than just the $50-$100 price difference than it looks on its surface.

Yeah that’s facts. I just got the cheapest b550 with 4 dimm slots for my 3600, and now I’m thinking if I want to upgrade to a 5800x (or other zen 3 8 cores when they release) and I’m prob gonna need a motherboard with better vrms.
@TubeYouDSilvy4 жыл бұрын
@@starz8580 You didn’t ask me for my advice - nor should you have - but just my 2c ... I don’t know what your use case is - but unless you’re being dangerously bottlenecked ... I feel like it’s not a great idea to get a new mobo now just for a 5000 series cpu when in a bout a year Zen 4 will come out on the AM5 platform and require yet another mobo chipset. Unless you NEED a new cpu for something now I feel like the mobo upgrade cash would be better spent 1) just on doing nothing or 2) on components for your system that will improve overall performance but will be transferrable to your next build such as more ram, or a new/faster SSD, something like that. If it were me, I’d wait for the mobo upgrade til Zen 4 and then AM5 chipset ... since the3600 is already solid ...

@TubeYouDSilvy4 жыл бұрын
@@mamory3791 Like all things - it depends. Are you building a pc now because you want to or you need to? Are you choosing the 3900x because it had the right price/performance mix that suited you or it’s the only thing you could get your hands on right now in the current environment and you are antsy to get building? The problem is that without knowing you or your circumstances it’s impossible to answer you. The other thing to keep in mind - like significant others - there’s no ‘perfect build’ - the moment you build it there are better / cheaper components usually coming out. But it is worth thinking about the fact that if you can hold out another few months - AMD will not only have better supply but they may also have a broader line up of 5000 series chips that suit your needs. but to answer your initial question - the 3900 and b550 are both very good, and barring specific niche use cases, will be able to handle just about whatever you throw at it. The danger of building with one now is that in a year you get FOMO when they release $300 6600x cpu that mops the floor with it on the AM5 chipset

There is another difference the VRM on B550 Master its superior 16 true phases (used in server boards and the 700usd aorus x570 extreme ) The B550 master basically have the best possible VRM on consumer board. The x570 master have 14 phase. So it depends what you want best VRM or more gen 4 lines. In my opinion gigabyte should do the B550 Master like other B550 boards with the N2 and N3 gen 3 slots connected to the chipset bcs now it just limits expandability.

While I don’t believe “future-proofing” to be as substantial as it was in 2016, I still do believe that the more you invest in your PC the longer it will last. On that note, I bought the x570 aorus master in 2019 1. Bcuz they didn’t sell b550 back then. 2. That's an interesting feature with that Aorus Master B550 board, being able to divide the PCIe 16x with all the M.2 slots. It's probably pretty niche. For most people, I think they would either go with a regular B550, or a somewhat stripped down X570 and be willing to sacrifice some of the nice "luxury" features, or go all the way and go premium X570 board with all the widgets and do-dads, rather than a fully-featured board with a chipset that isn't top tier. I can see custom builder companies like Origin or Main Gear, use that board to sell the customer a "premium" PC experience, and save on having to use a premium X570 board.

Thanks for the info and good job as usual! Love your content and videos! However, I will mention that while I agree both boards are special, the X570 (even newer x570s) have a feature called Active OC Tuner (exclusive to gigabyte) which gives you either a manual all core overclock or PBO (the board will adjust or switch) depending on your usage for best performance: This solves the issue where people either stick with an all core manual overclock on all cores or just want PBO. OC Tuner will give you both on demand depending what you run, and haven't seen any other board manufacturer do this! Unfortunately, the Gigabyte B-550 series doesn't support or include that Active OC tuner, so paying for the extra $100 might be worth it!

@conroypaw4 жыл бұрын
@@mariangall665- Premium boards aren't for "normal" people. Normal people don't build their own PCs. These boards ARE for the 1% professionals, hardcore games, PC braggers, etc. People who would buy either Aorus Master boards are enthusiasts. They WANT the PCIe Gen4 for their M.2. Otherwise, why even bother spending that kind of money? You can get an X470 or B450 board for so much less, these days.

@@mariangall665 agree, Normal users don't need this at all, Actually x570 boards are kinda extra for normal people

You don't. As other people have mentioned: These are not for normal people. I would say for the 0.1%. Even as Tech said: It does not matter now, it might matter in 3/4 years from now.

I have an x570 on my main pc and I just got a free 5600g cpu. I was looking at b550s for my second build but knowing it’s not pci gen 4 and slower chipset .. I’m struggling to not just buy another x570

So are you saying I can populate all 3 m.2 slots on that x570 board without sac ricing anything on the first pci-e 16x slot?
@GSXone4 жыл бұрын
@Rod 1984 So basically the only way (in this scenario) not to take a hit to the main pci-e slot is to go with a threadripper based system (something that has more pcie lanes.

Will 12 cores 24 threads be substantial for 6 years? I need help deciding on the 5900x vs the 5950x. I don't do 3D rendering or anything like that but I need help making the right decision.
@billlam77564 жыл бұрын
If it just pure gaming and u want future proof for the next 5 years then 5800x, 5900x if you dont care spending extra $100. 5950x is overkill and totally not worth it, so if u got the money 5900x. If u wanna save 100 bucks then 5800x will get you thru. They both give same performance and can do more than just gaming or incase future require more cores

I plan to upgrade after ddr5 and USB 4 comes out. Even then it's a timing thing depending on supply and prices and just how much better it can be against my current setup. The only upgrade I have planned right now is gpu for my desktop. And my laptop getting bigger nvme storage. Which I don't currently need more storage on my laptop it just would be nice and I may need it a year from now. There's a chance if everything not to much better I may keep my current setup for years except change the gpu. But I would like faster transfer speeds of data and that's where I am focused at the moment from micro sd cards maxing those out and maxing out transfer speeds transferring data between external hard drives and ssds. Thats been most of my buys lately.

I made the mistake of buying an matx case before confirming the motherboard I'll get. Now I am compromising with few PCIe lanes and USB ports that I could use....... Not to mention the build is over $5000 I can't settle with the matx asrock 570 or MSI mortar 550. Damn it I'll have to sell my matx case and buy atx case instead

Make it easy, x570 is better. Get x570 and have a good foundation for a few upgrades and keep it for 5-7 years. Saves money in the long run. After that, either keep the pc and make it into storage or media server to get a little more out of it.

The number of boards the partners are releasing is approaching, if not already, convoluted. This kind of information would be keenly purposeful to buyers in the purchasing process, and as you mentioned in the video there is no good way of knowing this by the marketing available. Every generation of boards and CPUs and GPUs that comes out I'm having to watch as many videos as I can from TechTubers in hopes they will cover a finite detail like this WHICH ABSOLUTELY MATTERS IN THE SCALING AND PERFORMANCE POTENTIAL OF A PRODUCT OVER TIME. It's like the manufacturer's engineering and marketing departments are not in the same room, ever. That's a problem.

This X570 seems to be lucky enough to get 2.5G LAN. I wonder why it is so much more common on B550. I get that 2 GPU upgrades from now the 8 lanes might be limiting, but if PCIe 5 is the standard in 2 years, in 4 years won't either config be a bit slow? The way storage needs are headed, would having more, 2× as fast, drives be better for the overall system than better graphics card bandwidth?

I managed to get a Asus tuf gaming x570 wifi for $160 new. There is no reason to get a 550 when a lower end cost x570 has so much more bandwidth and features against any b550 for about the same price. I want my future r9 5900x system to last till the eol of the AM5 generation

I think far more X570 board have lane bifurcation than people think. Also if you're running gen 3 NVME drives right now, If you adapt them to 1x you only lose half their speed on X570.
