You dont need to max out your monitor as long as it is adaptiv. As long as you are above 144hz you did not overspend and even if not, you keep monitors for longer than computers

Absolutely. Even if you use it at 120hz, in 2 years you will upgrade gpu anyway and keep the monitor.

A 5700X3D is fine fora drop in upgrade on an existing AM4 build using a 7800XT. In high fps competitive the number will be so high anything more a 7800X3D gets won't be worth a platform upgrade and in AAA high res high settings the 7800Xt will be the limiting factor. Remember, the 5000X3D parts are the cherry on top for the AM4 upgrade path. Can't start a new gen for the upgrade path if I have not had the best part of the previous gen upgrade path with the incredible value it is.

He bought toomuch monitor for his price level. That type of monitor falls into the " I have more money than I need" catagory and now he is stuck always buying the top tier equipment yearly to max it out.

I started to upgrade from a 3600x and 1070 to a 5700x and 4070 Super in my node 202. Wound up with a 7800x3d and 4070 Super with new nvme, psu, and Fractal Terra. Oopsies.

I got a 5600 and B550 last year to pair with my 4070 because AM5 is way too expensive in my country, I mainly game at 1440p. I'm considering buying the 5700X3D as a drop-in upgrade and paying it off with Afterpay.

I run a 5800x3d with a 7900xtx and i run 250fps on warzone all day in 1440p resolution. Im pretty sure a 5700x3d would give the same fps. Just bought a 5700x3d to replace a 3600x for my youngest son, i bet there will be a pretty solid gain.

I suppose since he's playing competitive games maxing out the monitor refresh rate would be certainly be idea, to get every edge possible against opponents in this case. For my single player titles, I don't feel the need to max out even my 165 Hz monitor if I am going to have to turn the detail settings way down to do so. I feel like sometimes the concept of driving the monitor at its full refresh rate is pushed too hard at times. When I buy a video card, maxing my refresh rate is a short term consideration , but in the long run, I fully expect to gradually be playing with lower settings and and play at lower frame rates as the card ages, regardless of what my refresh is.

For single player 70-100 fps is great for most games with highest detail. Getting 144 fps in something like bg3 is pointless. The competitive guys usually turn detail down to low for max fps anyways.

7800XT is a solid budget 1440P GPU (proud owner of a 7800XT) but I can see where 7900XT would be better running without FSR, having a 7900XTX. Think the price point of the 7900XT but it being the performance level that is better for really high refresh. Helped my friend build a 5800X back in the day, that's a solid pick unless the X3D are cheaper/staying on AM4 to not go to AM5. You can max out on DDR4, can see all sides tbh. 7800X3D would be better long term. There's an issue with the i7 and i9s on 13th and 14th motherboard voltages, where some people are having to downclock for gaming, perhaps that will be resolved.

Went from a 3700x to the 5700x3d and the performance increase was instantly noticeable, no more stutters, skips and slowdowns. Much much smoother experience. It's very easy to cool, i just slapped my wraith prism onto the thing and no issues at all, doesn't seem like it's any hotter than the old one.

I just ordered 5700x3d today & it will be arriving tomorrow. Initially had R7 3700x + RTX 2060 from Jan 2020. Upgraded GPU to RTX 4070 in March, this year. Now, hoping the 5700x3d smoothens out the gameplay further. & yes will continue using the wraith Prism as well.

I did the same upgrade using a 4070 ti. Fps barely higher if at all but stutters and 1% lows etc are higher so fps is more consistent at least feom my experience so far. If you have a 4070 don't expect much difference in high fps 😊

My friend has a Ryzen 5 2600 + B450 mobo + RX5700 GPU. His mobo is broken tho, so he wants to get a *B550 + 5700x3d.* Will that be a good upgrade considering his RX5700 GPU? Will he even feel the difference on his 165hz 1080p monitor? Main game is The Finals (quite cpu intensive I believe)

If craig mentioned that they were ok with hovering at around 120-160fps at their current monitor + hardware, no harm staying at the platform (but yeah could've just bought the 5800x3d back then)

Hello Byte Size Tech. I admire your work all of these years and actually you've helped me in a lot of ways with a lot of knowledge and for sure better decisions for my hardware and technology decisions. I have a question for you two. I have a R7 3800x, B550 Aorus Master, 32GB RAM 3600MHz CL16 and a RTX 3070 FTW3 from EVGA. I own a 2560x1440p 144Hz Monitor. I play mostly PUBG, LOL and i am a casual gamer and a hardware lover. I want to upgrade to a "next gen platform" in order to go with the flow and to stay with AM4 forever. Furthermore i would like to advice me the best "combo" for these hz and resolution in order not to get Bottlenecked. Last but not least, I have the opportunity to sell my combo. Thanks a lot for your time.

I feel like, if 5700x3d drops below 200 usd, its gonna be a great deal! Especially, when you can make a compromise and play Warzone in 180 frames in 1440p. 700$ for a am5 7800x3d with DDR5 isn't going to be 30-35 percent faster on 2k 7800xt or a 7900xt. Maybe a 4090 at best and even then I doubt it. Sell 5600, get a 5700xt now 150$ aliexpress. So really only 50$ vs 700$.

the 14700 is a very well priced cpu for what it is. Intel was probably drunk when they set the price as they were spitting out a 20 core processor for about the same price that their 16 core 13700 was priced. And some of those 14700 can actually handle ddr5 8000 (sillicon lottery ). it should be called an i8 or i7 and half. For gaming and medium intensity productivity It bring enough horsepower to deal with the use case of 80% or more of the market now and in the next 4 years. And in 4 years it will be irrelevant if lga1700 or am5 exist or not, because we will be in a completely different cpu landscape for both amd and intel.

That’s a tough one. I’m currently selling off all my AM4 5000 cpus and 500 series boards for 6 core 7000 series. 7600x is about a 5800x3D on average. I have two 5800x systems that I am just waiting for good 7600x deals. If you are comfortable with buying from Ali Express get the 7500F. Pair it with a b650 for around $120 and a good kit of ram is $105 for 6000 cl30 like FlareX. Flip that $125 7500F for $120 when the 9800x3D comes out. The main point is move on from AM4 once you land a good AM5 deal. Don’t be afraid of used or open box.

If you can find a used one you could easily get $90-100 for the 5600x. I'm actually picking up a used 5700X3D in a few hours from now for $140 and will sell my 5700X for likely $120-130 in the shop/garage PC no less. Complete overkill but that 3D will hold it's value longer. I wouldn't be going the 3D route if it wasn't for the $140 local used deal. If you can find a sub $150 AM4 3D chip then it would help your rig certainly but if you are paying close to $200+ then I would just go the AM5 route with a 7600X. They were only $175 on Prime Day a month ago.

Have not watched the video, but the answer is no, am4 is a dead platform with no upgradeability. DDR4 is old now. If you have an existing am4 motherboard im sure its a good sidegrade, but the 5700x3d is an awful recommendation for new builders or a new pc. (You can get a 7800x3d, a motherboard, and 32gb of DDR5 ram from microcenter right now as a bundle for 500$)

I’ve had my 5900x for a few years now and not once regretted it. Spending extra money on a cpu is always worth it. - I went from an i7 7700k to 5900x and being able to stream in x264 slow at 180 fps is amazing. - When I’m not streaming I’m around 240-300 fps.

@wrusst don't belive anything you hear online. Before I got into the AM4 platform everyone was praising how great it was. Turned out to be the worst PC experience I've ever had. All of my Intel systems are running fine and stable. Never had to deal with so much BS than I did with AMD systems. No professional esports player uses AMD for a reason.

@wrusst keep in mind people didn't start noticing the faulty 13th gen until A YEAR after they released. It's extremely overblown and my 13th gen has been the best experience I've ever had and I've built a ton of computers.
