Thanks for the video! It would be VERY helpful to include the details of the project you are using for comparison purposes. I mean, to know the length of the project, know the clips quality, effects applied...that would be great. On a non effects applied project, difference should be minimum but, when you apply effects, there comes the change between integrated gpu and eGPU

Thanks for the review! Do you think the 5700xt is that much better than the regular radeon pro 5700 version for FCP? I'm seeing people say it's only a 10% boost.. I'm torn whether it's necessary to upgrade to this model.

for video editing id def say the 5700 is just fine, I dont think its worth the extra money, but at the same time the new Navi cards are coming out soon so id def wait ;)

I also have an i9 MacBook with 560x graphics and have an i7 8700k based hackintosh with Vega 56. I noticed that the performance of the i9 often exceeds the hackintosh (except for Windows gaming). Something to think about when people are shopping for egpus, might be better off just opting for a better laptop

yes I totally agree, unless u have quicksync running properly which is really hard on a hackintosh, you'll always get better H.265 performance out of a real mac. even of an older generation. I love my eGPU's but for now I still just use the vega 20 gpu in my macbook pro.

Does anyone know if this means it may become compatible in a Hackintosh build? The PC I'm building at the end of Nov just so happens to have all hardware that will work for hackintosh (except the 5700 XT currently) so I really hope so as it would be nice to dual boot just for Final Cut Pro basically.

i bought the 5700XT does it only support with catalina? not work with mojave according to my research because i got my EGPU today with this card and the system is detecting the razer connected but not detecting any card so i assume i have to update to Catalina?

Yes, to the best of my knowledge the drivers for Navi based cards are only in MacOS Catalina 10.15.xx

The 4770 is plenty of CPU for a hackintosh, and for GPU id still go with the RX 570 580 or 590 as of right now the support is much better for it in hackintosh systems

Does your 5700XT fan spin on 10.5.1-3, I tried it on all .1-3 versions, but it just doesn't spin, causing massive heat on the GPU. I have MSI Gaming X 5700X

Interesting Question, so I no longer own this one I have the Sapphire 5700XT and I had some issues with the fan not kicking in initially, but after doing a BIOS update it now kicks in the fan much soon, also it helps to play with the fan Curve.

whats interesting is, it seems like that is what happens to an extent, when you dont plug yourmonitor into the egpu

It's difficult to read the charts, the Font is too small and every lines are thin and grey/white toned so not that readable on smaller screens( I'm watching this on an iPad pro and it's still not quite readable). and I see more Animation effects for transitions than the actual data just glimpsing through the narration. Still enjoyed your informative video. Thanks!

Awesome Video, I just finished testing out the 5600XT video myself as well, for an eGPU its not all that impressive but it's a damn good Gaming card.
