Also, America has an embarrassingly short memory. Black people (and Indigenous people especially) are always the canary in the coalmine. Everything that happens to these groups eventually happens to everyone else. The opioid epidemic is a great example. When we allow one group to be exploited, those doing the exploiting will always look for new targets to profit off of.

This video is partially an adaptation of a video I made over a year ago called “Baltimore: Anatomy of an Uprising.” That video is my least-viewed video, and I’ve gotten a lot better at YouTubing since I made it, so I’ve been eager to try the topic again. The middle section of this video is more or less a remix of the “Baltimore” video, with some passages recycled more or less verbatim. In this video I’ve added a new introduction, a new section on mass incarceration, and all around better framing and style. The thesis of this video, that America is still racist, should not really be controversial, but here we are. I guess this is my attempt to nudge the KZbin Overton window a little toward “How should we address the racial injustice that exists in America?” and away from “Are the international Jewry cucking the white race or are non-denominational globalists responsible?” EDIT: 0:31 I misspelled "Millennial." This is what happens when you don't sleep. But hey, I have deadlines.

yeah it probably has to do with how memories are created, stored and remembered by the human brain ; things you learned recently can seem more recent than they actually are, listening to a song on repeat for weeks can trick your brain into thinking you've known that song for years, and events that happened before your birth are all stored as separated memories with separated timelines so your brain have to work extra hard to put them in order. being born and raised in a country which history (a very hectic and controversial one to boot) starts only 5 centuries ago , having been taught history superficially or with wildly inaccurate textbooks, being fed lies about everything and nothing 24/7 are all things that can fuck up (on purpose more often than not) with the difficult process by which our brains handle this history. Here is a white, transgender woman, who doesn't know what it's like to be a black person in America specifically BUT can still realize that there have been and still are so many injustices in our community that have gone largely ignored and forgotten due to racism and complacency. I mean, she did her own independent research and presented the facts and statistics--back in 2018! None of my white friends ever talked about it. None of the white youtubers I subbed to talked about it--except for Natalie. I don't even recall mainstream news going into too much depth on the subject. I also looked at the legend for the police stops map, seeing that it listed white pedestrian stops separately, yet very few on the map. So it's not just a case that "black people are stopped more often in black neighborhoods," it's that they're stopped more often in ALL neighborhoods. The reason why people say, "I don't have time to explain racism to you" is because life experience has shown me it never works. After I give up days of my life trying to convince some white person that Black Lives Matter isn't a terrorist organization it always ends with, "Well, I kinda need to believe I got everything I have because I deserve it and you got everything you have because the world feels bad for black people, so I'm just going to ignore the mountain of evidence to the contrary and continue on guiltlessly buying into white supremacy." Every.single.time. Why? Because when a white person /really/ wants to know about racial injustice they'll Google that shit. Wasting my time typing out essays pleading for my humanity to be recognized just highlights my utter powerlessness in this context and makes me depressed. It's their freedom, just like it is yours to put a link in your comment to a video where your opinion is showed. 3. First of all, because the KKK is no longer visible, doesn't mean they don't have any influence anymore. Second, people of color can be racist. And nobody should judge another human being on their etnicity. That said, racism is not just racism in every group. If you control a country and you systematically oppress certain groups on the basis of their etnicity, it has more far reaching consequences. (PS: People of color being racist does not mean that everybody can be racist). And on the point of the Nazi's. I would argue that indeed most of the Germans might not have been racist before Hitler. But if the country is said to be doing bad and one great leader can fix it. And he states that the country will be fixed if there are no 'foreign' people anymore, some people will believe that because they feel desparate. This doesn't make it okay though. 4. The comparison between Asians and Blacks is solely based on the fact that living in a 'white' society will put you in a better spot. Except, it is because Asians haven't been structurally been discriminated against for hunderds of years by Americans they feel less of the oppressing that has been happening. 5. This point if have already explained at point 3. 6. If you mean slavery by culture, then first, you are wrong. Slavery is not a culture, but a outcome of sentiments existing in a culture. The game disregarded so much of what made Fallout 1 and 2 great (the themes, the lore, the dialogues, the story) and gave us in return another one of Bethesda's hallmark "explore everything, enjoy nothing" cardboard cuttouts, low on dialogue, themes and lore, but high on copy-paste locations with a chest at the end and maybe a recording of someone doing something uninteresting in the past. The interactions with NPCs were minimal, the quests were... kinda weird (i mean, i don't want to say generic, even though a lot of them were, but they had a tonal problem. Lilke, they had only two modes: "cooky" and "grim", and i was quickly tired of the "cooky" mode, but then again - humour is subjective, so take that opinion for wha it is), the enviroment was inconsistent and bland, and a lot of things just didn't make sense (plot- or themewise). And i'm not even going to rant about the hideous graphics and animations, bugs, performance issues, cluncky controls and very subpar fps gameplay (since Fallout: New Vegas had the same engine and was absurdly superior in spite of having a lot of flaws of Fallout 3). I agree with hbomberguy's opinion on Fallout 3 and much of Bethesda's work (he did a video on Skyrim and Bethesda in general too), even though i can't help myself to like Skyrim for some masochistic reason (and i did sink a lot of hours into Fallout 3 and 4 anyway, deriving some enjoyment from that? I hate myself for it too, playing Fallout 4 feels like being on a KFC diet, you know it's disgusting and unhealthy, but the next day you buy another bucket.... i mean, it never happened to me, I just know a guy why did that, ok?). True but in my opinion racism isn't a diagnosis it's a symptom. Tribalism is still deeply engrained into human psyche from hunter/gatherer days, if every person on the planet looked exactly the same the people who are "racists" today would still find something to hate other people for, like how the English hated the Irish even though they looked pretty much the same. I always loved the old episode of Fairly Odd Parents where Timmy wishes that everyone were identical grey blobs because it articulated that theory extremely well, the people who had superiority complexes before still bragged about how they were the "grayest" of the gray blobs after.

Thank you for talking about this, and I apologise for making this an impromptu therapy session. Race has always been an uncomfortable topic for me. I'm mixed race, and it has been a source of stress for my entire life. Things really took off when my grandmother told my mother and myself that she had hidden the fact that my mother's biological father was Mexican, and that there was Romani on my grandmother's side (in addition to the Native American and Irish that she never hid) to protect my mother from her racist, literal sociopath stepfather. He's dead now, thank God. Then I made the mistake of telling who I thought was my best friend, who then told the entire school. Things...got bad, to say the least. Since then, this has been a contributing factor to my identity and self esteem issues. I have never felt like I fit in in any community except my time in the military, regardless of the political make up of the area that I'm in. Even within my own extended family. For the eighteen years after my grandmother opened up, I've struggled with "what am I" until my wife told me that I'm me, and she loves me because I'm me. But, there is a silver lining to my experiences, truth be told. It taught me one thing above all else: treat each person that I meet with the dignity and respect that they deserve rather than lumping them in with some group that can lead to alienation and othering. Sorry if I'm rambling, just a little emotional. It's nice to have a place where I can open up.

5:31 As someone who's not of the left, but also not an American, this is the thing about the rhetoric around US Police killings that I find most disturbing. If someone is committing a crime (though I have to question why possessing certain types of knife needs to be criminal) then that's a good reason to arrest them using the minimum necessary force. It's not a good reason to summarily execute them. If they run, maybe chase them (or if you know who they are, just come back and arrest them later, it's not like there's a ticking clock here). But the police should only kill people if there's an imminent danger that can be prevented by killing someone, and it concerns me that this opinion does not appear to be all that mainstream. You have a great channel BTW, I came across it recently, and I've enjoyed hearing your perspective on different issues and you have a real flair for production.

It's not just lead paint, poor neighborhoods see higher levels of most pollutants. Mercury, carbon monoxide, ozone, particulate matter, etc. More pollution => lower land values => the only place poor people can afford => physical damage from pollution => inability to work to full potential due to chronic damage and sickness => cycle of poverty. People of color get hosed in every possible way in this country.

I think the main reason why it's so hard or near impossible to talk to your average white person about race, is that it conflicts with our self image as "good moral people" because the way we're taught things regarding this topic is reduced to individual actions and mean spirited attitudes and words that are consciously intended as such. It's event based in the white consciousness Racism is not an event, it is a system, and it's the system that we're all in, and none of us were or are exempt from it's forces, and anyone who says theyre not racist, or less racist, or is in the choir, or already gets it, are actually perpetrating harm to a greater degree than vehement outright racists, because all of our energy is spent making sure YOU know that we get it, instead of the sustained study, struggle, focus, and harm reduction that we all have to be doing for the rest of our lives

White people aren't racist but they do benefit from the infrastructure and institutions that were built on racism. When black people say take responsibility for racism, it doesn't mean to blame or have guilt because neither of those traits are useful to our cause. It means that if we want to break down these oppressive institutions, it is on us to do so.
@malikanthony11495 жыл бұрын
You simply don't have any depth of understanding this issue. White people for generations have built their wealth and privileges at the expense of others and the institution and methodologies used to build these infrastructures of oppression still exist. Black people alone can't deconstruct these things because they affect everyone. So it is our collective responsibility to deconstruct these racist institutions if we truly want a free and equal society.

But it’s not common. The media will have you believe that it is.
@jesterdayplays7713 жыл бұрын
Firstly, I'm not American so I have no clue what your media tells you. I don't shape my views based on a few sources anyway. Everyone and every institution has their biases and it's hard to come to an unbiased conclusion, especially in modern times. Therefore, I try consume media from all kinds of political sides in order minimize my own bias. Okay, maybe you're right, extrajudicial executions might not be that common statistically, then again, your definition of "common" would also almost always constitute a subjective bias. Maybe you wouldn't think of 1% as "common", but others might would. Maybe the word "common" in that context was just trying to communicate something else altogether, and Natalie just made a simple mistake, for instance "at a higher rate than expected". Maybe that was her real intention. But anyway, let's agree that extrajudicial executions are not that common. Even though that is the case, I see so many people lining up to defend extrajudicial executions based on ridiculous and weak grounds when one happens. I'd say what's common is not extrajudicial executions themselves, but the people accepting those executions as normal procedure is very common, and I'd be very worried about that if I were living in the USA. I mean, when such situations arose, you can always spot the infamous "bad apples argument" somewhere. I don't know, if that's the case, and if we are talking about only just a few apples, any other civilized country in the world would make an example of those bad apples when the chance arises in order to hinder other bad apples doing bad shit, not bail them out of prison in the first possible instance. As a foreign observer, I find your criminal justice system generally unjust and especially overly protective of law enforcement. You'd benefit from reforming it a bit. But that just my two cents on the issue.

The difference is that she is only overtly racist in private, so only my family really knows that. But my whole family is fucking racist. Probably because they are from romania (eastern europe). Just because someone has a black friend, doesn't mean they can't be racist. I don't have black friends, because there aren't that many black people where I live. But I have KZbin where I can listen to black creators talking about White Supremacy, and how to be an effective anti-racist. This video covers the idea of systemic racism really well and provides some hard hitting examples. With the recent events regarding George Floyd I've seen so many people questioning the existence of institutional racism and the fundamental difference of opportunity that POC have to work with. I wish more people could see this and understand that these racist ideals run through the very core of our country, and affect more facets of the social and economic lives of POC than is even covered in this video. Like she says, with America being built upon hundreds of years of racism how could the effects not be long lasting
