My former neighbor had an Aikita who could be quite intimidating, but scratch him behind the ear & he'd turn into a quivering lump of jelly. He also thought he was a lapdog.

You are one of the only sites that mentions the "dog fighting" lineage of these beautiful dogs. As a Akita enthusiast you must know and acknowledge the history of the dog and not sugar coat facts and hide them . I appreciate your information, thanks for sharing.

My partner and I do a bit of traveling and he is great. For a 13 year old, 135 pound Akita , he's the friendliest thing. A big snuggle bunny.

My Akita has been extremely well socialized. Ever since he was 8 weeks old he goes most places with us. My wife also takes him to work everyday and loves everyone and just goes office to office to visit and lounge around all day along with meeting different people who come in the office.

They bond close to the owner to protect you from any hostile encounters. They are very big and strong which requires more fitness with the dog.

Ours are nearing the end of their lives. Our male is 12 and our female is 11. The male spent most of his life at about 135 lbs and the female at about 105. Both have lived in the house throughout the time we’ve had them. They’ve lived healthy lives other than one ACL tear 6 years ago in the male. They’ve been incredible around other people and our kids that were born 7 and 3 years ago. However, our male has been aggressive toward other male dogs in the past and had to be pulled away and both the male and the female have killed several small woodland creatures, including birds somehow. All in all, they’ve been amazing, loyal, and friendly dogs their entire lives. If it weren’t for the last 12 years of constant double exorbitant shedding, we would be planning to get Akitas again when these two pass away.

Agree mostly... Nice video! I'm 2nd rescue 2 plus years now on male 120#, reactive type. He's watchful of my 10 acres in mountains 9,000' snow 7 months a year. 300" on average snow he loves. Best watch dog, if a bark something is up for me to check out, 10 days ago fenced yard a bark, I'm inside... It's a 800# moose 30' away.

My Marcel died in my hands, he was 18. Akitas are not for everybody, they need big spaces to run, they're enormously powerful, they'll fight to death to protect you, males Akitas must not be close to any other big male dogs, small dogs, they just ignore them. Other than having a 100 acres farm, they shed a lot, they eat a lot, and they love and protect you with their lives.

My Akita is a couch potato. With enough daily walks, they do not require a huge space at all. Maybe it's subjective, but this one is like that. He walks for 2 hours a day and he is quiet at home, usually in his favorite position with a good view of the entrance.

Mistake on the bathing. They should be bathed as little as possible and only when necessary. Bathing too often will ruin their coat.
@drainmonkeys3855 ай бұрын
I think that generally true for all dogs.. all animals in general…. water only bath is different though. That mimics nature.

And if you do need to bathe them, use Johnsons baby shampoo and between those washes you can use just conditioner.
@jammieflowers97953 ай бұрын
Right I was just going to put that in there you only have to bathe them twice a year they shed twice a year but when they get older they will start shed four times a year. I bathe my Akitas twice a year when they shed for the summer and winter coat it's best when they do their summer coat after winter and then that way you can do the flea and tick shampoo and then when winter comes they go into their winter coat give them a bath. I have owned 5 Akitas it still have Akitas in my house today and I'm breeding Adidas I have been with the Akita since I've been 13 years old.

Among Korean native dogs, the Pungsan dog, like the Jindo dog, follows only one owner. This dog is a breed that can hunt tigers in packs, and is extremely loyal, risking its own life when protecting its owner. Korean native dogs have high wolf genes
@enriquerojas97583 ай бұрын
Did you know the breed was named in Mexico? After the Japanese tried to keep the name breed “Akita” only for the Japanese line (ichinoseki) the American line (Dewa) was called “Great Japanese Dog”. Finally it was named American Akita in Mexico

Korean native dogs have a state of trying to protect thin animals, knowing that Jindo dog, Poongsan dog, Bul dog, Gyeongju dog, and Sap-salgi wear only one owner, and the owner wears the dog to receive wolf discharge and last for a long time.
