Back to the groovy new 1969-1974 set. The kids dance to Three Dog Night’s #10 hit. This was their 3rd top ten hit in 1969 following “One” (#5) and “Easy To Be Hard” (#4) and this was just the beginning for them. They would have #1 hits every year for the next 3 years; 1970 - “Mama Told Me Not To Come”, 1971 -“Joy To The World”, and 1972 - “Black and White”, among many other hits in the early 70’s.
Laura Nyro wrote and originally recorded “Eli’s Comin’” (as it was originally titled) in 1967, but it was not successful until Three Dog Night recorded it in ’69. Laura would go on to write hit songs for the 5th Dimension - “Wedding Bell Blues”, “Stone Soul Picnic”, and for Blood, Sweat and Tears - “And When I Die”.
…..And premiering on NBC tonight is Rod Serling’s new follow up series to the “Twilight Zone” called “Night Gallery”. One of the 3 stories airing in tonight’s pilot episode, titled “Eyes”, was about a blind woman who buys the eyes of a desperate man (Happy Days’ Tom Bosley) in need of money (very creepy). It starred Joan Crawford and was directed by a 21-year-old new up-and-comer, Steven Spielberg.
Airdate: Nov. 8, 1969

@@jchesney2535 LOL!!! Regarding “stereotypes,” I find it funny that people who weren’t even born in the 60s claim that people from my generation were all dropping acid when you don’t even have the slightest clue of what you’re talking about, but would instead rather make stuff up.

Hi AARON and thank you for this clip...Dick Clark and the kids are so proud of their new far out set! Miss Cory Wells / Chuck Negron's intro to the song here but Dick was wise to exclude the otherwise undanceable prelude. We would have had another "Mission Impossible" moment! You are so right about that "one right after the other" hits for Three Dog Night...I remember buying ALL of their 45s all the way up through 1975 and "Til' the World Ends". (RIP Cory Wells) (Night Gallery was an awesome show...Some episodes were really creepy!)

Bravo Aaron and mrob75. Your combined comments neatly package the salient points of the music, history and discography of the day. Good one Mario about the excluded intro to "Eli's Coming" preventing another "Mission Impossible" undanceable moment.

Very good point Mario. It’s a brilliant intro, but it would’ve been about 30 seconds of just standing around, staring, and waiting for the prelude to end. Three Dog Night was incredible. Reading about them again, I forgot how many “mega-hits” they had in that short time span of about 5 or 6 years. (Night Gallery and especially Twilight Zone, still give me nightmares lol)

My parents were born in '50 & '51, so this would've been their time :) I didn't really get interested in 60's and early 70's stuff until I was in my 20s. Funny--my parents were into the Beatles & Led Zeppelin & Black Sabbath, and I was a disco baby :) Geoff.

@Veronica A. .. Mary Quant was also famous for her make-up line, especially her lipsticks, back in the late 1960's/early 1970's. Only the trendiest stores and boutiques carried the line, and they were quite pricey for that time. A tube of her lipstick cost about $10, a small fortune back then, but the everyday price of a tube of Loreal or Revlon today. Always wanted to try one, but being a middle class teen with no disposable income back then (lol), was never able to get my hands on one.

@@jackjohnson7396 I personally don't care for the mini-skirts myself. Not because they're not modest, but because they look plain lousy. They remind me of a "normal" size dress that was left in the dryer way too long.
