I love how even on the commentary track they mention that "only in Hollywood would you cast Amanda Seyfreid as the ugly best friend." And yet, there is a line where Jennifer is saying that Needy has to look nice, but not *too* nice, not upstaging Jennifer. So I think the film acknowledges that Needy is just as pretty, she just doesn't put the same effort into looking her best or have the confidence and presentation to draw attention to herself. It's some interesting nuance.

True story, we went to see this in theaters without my roommate Jennifer. This was when movie theaters had some cell phone blockers, so before the movie my roommates mum calls asking if we've seen her as her phone died while walking home.
