Just a heads up, that confusing beat that Helium did is called a poly rythym, he's just using super unique time signatures showing off his techniques since everyone usually sits on 3/4 or a boots and cats tempo. Its all technicality based for complexity rather than musicality if that makes sense.

He kinda lost the crowd with that beat though, bad choice to do it on a live stage imo. If he had a cool, musical transition there and maybe didn't use the same ending twice then he would have had good chances to win the battle. That beat + ending repetition lost the battle for him.

@@rex166 you're completely right, inertia ended up losing for the same reason. His inward bass is insane and mindblowing but if it's every battle it gets old, helium was the same with his fast flows and not having any shocking beats after his minute of the first round, but he had to input technicality other than impressing the crowd somehow. Even me being a not talented beatboxer can come somewhat close to matching his speed and the sounds of his round(ive been beatboxing for about 6-7 years as a passion and not trying to show it to others)

@rex166 Sometimes, it's about taking risks, and since the crowd didn't weigh into the judges scorecards, it was more of the fact that whatever they thought of would score better. What should be discussed is personal bias and how the judges grade the contest definitely graded more technically on behalf of Helium and more Groove to Inertia. Ultimately, it should have been tied, but the decisions that were made last second and almost the judges look at each other seemed very controversial. It should have gone to a tiebreak.

Just so we're clear, Helium is never off beat. The "off beat" is very complex type beat that feels off beat is just very technical and very hard to do.

It’s called polyrhythm. It’s literally 2 conflicting rhythms played simultaneously, which is why it sounds “off beat”. It’s a crazy skill for beatboxers to master, which is awesome.

Oh I absolutely cannot wait til y'all get to the loopstation battles. Fully composed songs built sound by sound in a 3 minute time limit and they can EQ and mix everything live. On the Beardyman tip but he's more old school, still dope, but it's crazy what they are capable of and the machines are getting more advanced.

If y'all are getting into battles, I *HIGHLY* recommend the daddy of all GBB battles, MB-14 vs Saro (currently at 52 MILLION views). There are a ton of reactions out there for it, because obviously people love it. I'll agree with you that the MB14 LA Cup Showcase is good, as is Pyramids that MB14 release on his own channel that doesn't have the audio distortions that the La Cup Showcase has (plus the dual cameras show both the front view and the view of his loopstation so you can see what he's doing in real time. All that said, no need to put down any other performances; these guys are all professionals competing and performing at a world-class level. ✌❤

I think MB14 vs Saro is a good introduction to looping because MB14 starts with a more vocal focused style, and then Saro shows how he DJs the sounds. La Cup is a better showcase of MB14 though.

I got a little into beatbox and drum and bass way back. Both are crazy skillsets. I got away from that realm of music and talent about 2014, went down the rabbit hole of acapella music. Just resurfaced recently when I first saw the KZbin short of the last 20 seconds of round 1 King Inertia to about 20 seconds in of round 2 Helium. Y'all were probably the 20th react I've seen. I know when all the stuff is going to happen, and it still blows me away. So, aside from this beatbox rabbit hole. Don't sleep on the acapella beatboxers. Im sure you've heard of Pentatonix, there's quite a bunch of other groups beside them. Home Free and VoicePlay are probably the next two well known. And all three were on the TV show "The Sing Off".
