I've been Rewatching this series from episode one series one over the last six months and it's even funnier than when I first watched it as a kid… Unquestionably one of the funniest sitcoms ever produced by the UK and strangely enough, a massive hit in Germany still today.😊

One of THE best comedy programmes from the UK imo. So many sayings that have become common in conversation and 'piss-taking'. I loved Secret Army too, but this was an excellent parody. I know you'll love watching it through Connor, it will give you many laughs!

Part of the joke is each nationality don't necessarily speak the others language. For instance only Michele the resistance girl can speak to the British airmen.

And the plot.
@highpath4776
@highpath4776 8 ай бұрын
@@znotch87 The plot is fairly well introduced in the first 5 mins. (isnt there normally a Rene talking to camera for a start in these or was that missing on S1E1 ?) Cafe Owner has wife (whose cooking is terrible, beaten only by her singing) , Has waitresses on the side , and is is a reluctant collaborator with the resistance and the germans. Holds the original painting (hidden) that has value , as does the clock (does that diappear from the plots much later on). And there is a war on (WW2)

The actor Gorden Kaye who played 'Renee' was gay in real life. He was much loved in the UK and suffered severe head injuries when a car he was in crashed in a fierce storm in Jan. 1990. He suffered dementia and died in Jan. 2017. Richard Gibson, born Kampala Uganda, who played 'Herr Flick' in all but the final series, divides his time now between the UK and Ireland working in Films (The |Go Between 1971), TV (Allo Allo 1982-92), and newspaper sub-editing.

I watched repeats of all these, and some episodes were just amazingly written. There would be several separate storylines - all funny - that would all tie together in the climax. That's very difficult to do

Conner this is old style British humour with lots of innuendo and some Sexual references in the style of Stage comedy I think with a simple plot made hilarious. The Carry on films were also good with a different subject for each film.

There is an episode before this one (the pilot I guess, since this has the title Episode 1 in it) that is a better introduction to everyone and explains the plot better. And it shows how and why the painting and the clock was entrusted to Rene, how and why the airmen and Michele turned up in Rene's life and the dynamic between Rene, his wife and his waitresses. But even if you skip that episode, you'll pretty quickly pick it up anyway.

Stretching the image is acceptable, positioning the image so your audience only see the top half is not one of your better ideas. There is a lot of visual comedy in the episodes, some of which happens in the bottom part of the screen image, which will not be visible to us. Stretch it, reduce it’s size and show the whole image, otherwise it’s pointless to those who have never seen Allo Allo before.

As a French guy I gladly give you the "French accent in English" pass (apart from the "hon hon hon" and "oui oui baguette croissant" part that got old), loved it when you were starting to do it. French people enjoy their accent to be mimicked by native Anglophones because we love to make fun of ourselves when French people are speaking English with this accent. BTW, this TV show might be quite confusing for French people because their French accent is mixed with some very British intonations here and there. Fun fact : there's an old French song named "Sous les ponts de Paris", but it isn't the one featured in this show : kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYTJnKWsg7ukg8U

I grew up watching Allo Allo. It starts off great but sadly (in my opinion) goes downhill. I think the pilot episode is actually the best one. This reaction is not actually the pilot episode. Series 1 Episode 0 is the actual pilot. It used to be on KZbin but I don't think it is any more. It is called "The British are coming". Many sites put this reaction as season 1 episode 1 but the pilot is not in fact the episode you reacted to here. The pilot is more accurately Season 1 episode 0 and is far funnier.
