A Pitty can be a great dog and a Staffy can be a great dog. They’re ridiculously similar, but there are definitely physical distinctions and it matters mostly to Staffy owners who don’t like the negative looks people give them walking down the street. I love my Am Staff and she gets called a Pit Bill all the time. Doesn’t bother me because bigots are gonna be bigots regardless of what I call my dog. There is definitely a distinction though. If you’ve ever owned a Staffy, they are more top heavy and can’t jump - getting them in the car is a chore. My Am Staff is the sweetest dog I’ve ever owned, softer and more spoiled than all of my small dogs. Pit Bulls are way more athletic. They’re like pro athletes of the dog world.

Actually the pro athletes of the dog world would definitely have to be Belgium malinois/shepherd breeds. Factually speaking. Millions are spent on them every year by military/law enforcement. I understand pit breeds aren't recognized by some entities however, that's hardly the reason why we see a lack of professional outlets for pits to utilize. The statistical majority percentage of pits are unreliable and/or unpredictable particularly from an investment standpoint. So naturally, when the risk is higher than the gain, most functionaries base their investments on data that has already extrapolated desired results. Such as the Belgium malinois/other shepherd breeds. It's not just their performance, their intelligence supersedes most breeds as well. It's a win-win for all participants, for the breed as well. Pit breeds are some of the least intelligent dog breeds in existence. Every demographic has exceptions ( minority percentage ) I shouldn't have to specify but I will. Every demographic of animal, including humans, even our ethnicities/race, nationality, geographical regions etc etc. It all has a statistical majority percentage, and a statistical minority percentage. This is where stereotypes come from. With that being said, I'd like to end it by saying pit breeds are the most aesthetically stimulating, affectionate, human obsessed dogs on the market that also provide decent protection for an affordable price. I think the amstaff is the real original american pitbull terrier. My case is thus, if you buy an american pitbull puppy.. it will not come with pedigree papers meaning that it is not recognized by the akc. This mean that you do not know what you are actually buying. If you buy an amstaff with pedigree papers, one thing is for certain the dog that you obtained came from the original american pitbull terrier.

American Pit Bull terrier is still a breed in the UKC and the ADBA, it’s only not a breed in the AKC. That’s actually the entire reason the Amstaff even exists, because the AKC refuses to recognize APBT as a breed. So they just gave it a new name.

While i do like Pitbulls & think they r wonderful dogs, my fav is the AmStaff. I currently have 3 dogs (each 1 is playful intelligent athletic loving strong & protective) a brindle AmStaff, a red wheaten Rhodesian Ridgeback & a steel grey male Weimaraner named Remington Steele (4 those & any1 who gets the reference & 4 those who don't, here's a hint ~ i luv mysteries)! Amstaffs and pit bulls are the same the difference between them is a matter of affluence. The wealthy back in the late 1800s did not like the name pit bull so they started calling their dogs amstaffs and because of the social circles of rich dog owners the akc accepted the amstaff. The wealthy as usual got what they wanted and the pit bull became the common mans dog. The fact of the matter is the rich still fought their dogs but they treated them like prize fighters fighting in rounds with breaks and the ability to concide defeat it their dog was losing where the common mans dog fight was usually to the death. The truth is that pit bulls were used originally to kill bulls in a pit thus the name while people would bet on things like how many dogs it would take to kill the bull or how fast they could complete the task not for dog fighting as most people believe

Pitbulls on the other hand are a mixed up pile of genetics and are no longer a purebred line. Pits were never suppose to weigh 175lb but its popular these days their just a mix of whatever genetcs the breeder thinks will make his dogs bigger and better. A pit bull male is suppose to weigh 50-65 lb anything larger or smaller is a cur and should be sterilized so it can't breed. Not looking for a argument but you should look up breed standards and compare that standard to whats being sold as a pitbull. Most people these days just call them American bullys a much more accurate description of whats being produced as there is alot of mastaff and american bulldog mixed in which is what makes them so large

Pitbulls however are now a hodgepodge of various bulldogs and mastaffs and are more appropriately just called American bullys. Dont care if you believe me I really dont I trust my information

Pit is bigger all around height, weight, head. I get what you're saying they do have similar bloodlines but staffs bloodlines have been around centuries and pits since the 90's with random bloodlines which is why akc doesn't recognize them as a breed. Different size and temperaments. Pit is more athletic and hyper more often whereas staff is chill most of the time until he's in gear and he runs circles around pit with crazy energy. Staff is way more protective and distant from unknowns where pit is nosy and quick to say hi. Definitely more different than the same but both great dogs

Perhaps before 1936 that was true, since then, they've been bred for different traits. I can easily see the difference between our Amstaff and the Pitbulls several of our friends own. Here in Australia though, when Pitbulls became illegal, they all suddenly became Amstaffs so they could be registered. Admittedly, when I watch videos like this, usually from the US, there is less difference between them than there is here in Australia. The Amstaffs are shorter, with a different build than the much more athletic looking Pitties, not hard to see the difference between the bloodlines here! I've been taking my Staffy to the local dog park, and to dog obedience classes, and nobody has mistaken him for a Pitbull at all. When he plays with the English Staffies, and you see them side by side, you can see that he's a Staffy, not a Pitty. If people thought for one second that he was a Pitbull, he wouldn't be running around playfighting with their little 'fur children' lap dogs, they'd all be heading straight for the small dog area!
