high bottom brackets are because of the fact that we have gigantic mountains with large rocks. The Pivot maintains a long and low geometry that's still higher than euro bikes because it's developed in Arizona. Arizona has some of the gnarliest rocky trails in the US like the double blacks and prolines in Sedona. The DW link makes it hard to ding your bracket on things but it still is a frequent issue with bikes like the 5010 which is pretty obnoxiously low and personally I felt that it struggled with tech.

I actually really like the way the Transition rides (I've ridden a Patrol), but the cable routing is messy (especially the Alloy ones), the build kits aren't great value and their 2 year frame warranty isn't anywhere near as good as what I'd expect nowadays. Edit: Forgot to say that I really like Danny as the voice over; IMHO, he's clear, concise and works really well with these videos. Have a like.
@Honda-nn3ee7 жыл бұрын
Can confirm messy cable routing. The rear brake line was hitting the rear spokes for me on a demo ride. Could easily be rerouted, so no big deal if you love the bike otherwise.

Rather see the Hightower be included, but appreciate the review of the Scout. In the USA I think we all generally agree the SC Hightower, Pivot 5.5, and Evil Calling are the 3 most lustworthy US made boutique bikes in this AM category.

Yep, my Rocky Mountain Altitude isn’t all that stretched. I feel it needs the longer stem just to compensate. Considering the BC aggressive riding of the Northshore it seems to run against the paradigms of the industry set my Mondraker.

Would the Evil Calling still be a good bike to buy in 2021? I was offered one for 3200€ but I’m not sure if the geometry is still up to date or of I should get a newer bike.. I need a very upright riding position, since I have back issues and I’m not sure if the 74.5 deg seat tube angle is good for that. Considering that new bikes always have almost 80deg maybe I should get a newer bike, but I’m really not sure..

Anyone else have trouble with all of these new bikes with ultra-low BB height? Here in BC, Canada, our trails aren't all buff, bermed, park-like rides. We have technical, rocky, and steep uptracks, and more technical downs. I'm bangin' pedals constantly when riding/demo-ing many of the new long and low geometry bikes. Sounds like maybe the BB height on the Pivot isn't overly low?
@MBRmagazine6 жыл бұрын
What length cranks are you running? Can always fit bigger volume tyres to raise the BB, and shorter cranks for more clearance.

@MBRmagazine7 жыл бұрын
Nomad is a much longer travel bike, so doesn't fit the test. Check out our first ride video from the launch for our first impressions of it though. We've also done a review of the Intense Recluse too elsewhere on our channel.
@jameshughes55857 жыл бұрын
MBR magazine the bronson fits the travel range, however i am not sure any aggressive trail bike can be pigeonholed with regard of travel.170mm travel bikes can now climb as well as a 140-150mm and can feel as nimble. Whilst i agree scb will not feature in every test, however when they are ones such as bike of the year and american superbike shootout then not including the likes of intense or santa cruz is a big oversight... i promise, no more grief from the direction after this... like the channel and you guys do a mint job. Cheers 🍻

Couple things about the transition scout... 1. Like other have mentioned, this is an older scout. 2018 is more long and slack 2. Based on your quoted price of 4,999, it appears to be the build kit 2. Website shows their 2017 build kit 2 comes with Pike RCT3, not a basic RC fork, so I'm a bit confused why your sample have a RC and not a RCT3 3. To continue number 2, build kit 2 should also comes with Sram X01. Based on the GX, and Pike RC, it appears that the bike you guys are reviewing in this video is actually their build kit 3, not 2. The build kit 3 comes in at 3900 English Pound, NOT 4,995 as indicated in this video. In short, you are comparing a 3900 bike to a 5500 and 5800 dollar bike. The description does say Carbon 3, so it looks like you guys just priced the bike wrong? Unless for whatever reason the build kit 3 cost as much as the build kit 2 in the states.
@MBRmagazine7 жыл бұрын
It's a Scout Carbon 3, and the price is £4,999. The Carbon 2 is £5,999 and gets the better Pike and XO1 drivetrain. Hope this clears it up. Yes, it's the older model, and the version that the UK distributor sent to us. We're sure that, had the 2018 version been available, it would have sent that instead.
@jaykan10027 жыл бұрын
MBR magazine mhmm that’s odd because the American pricing for the carbon 3 kit is USD $5100. That translate to ~3900 pounds. So either someone is giving you guys the wrong pricing info or American pricing is that much cheaper. I checked the pricing on 2 different sites to confirm the MSRP as well.

American bike companies have been at the forefront of modern geometry...and if you want to lump all brands in that are "across the pond" just look at kona which was pushing slack bikes ages ago. Not sure where the intro of your video is coming from acting like North American companies have been behind the curve all this time...
@MBRmagazine7 жыл бұрын
SchmeddyBallz we would say that Mondraker, Mojo/Nicolai and Pole have been pushing the boundaries of geometry. Santa Cruz, Intense and Pivot have been pretty conservative up until recently. That’s fair enough though - it would have been a big gamble four years ago to commit to such radical geometry. 👍
