Its true, race in europe isnt really just talked about nearly as much. Alot of people hate the fact how american media is "importing" all this race thinking shit to Europe, and alot of people feel very strongly against it. That is why the right has been more popular in the recent years.

Nice to hear about your friend's impressions of Spain. Just being able to walk around and get fresh food in a friendly place is amazing. I've been taking Spanish for years in Canada but I have an advantage because I already speak fluent French, but Spanish verbos are harder than French!!! ¡Suerte!

I can relate to what your friend felt there. When I was in Spain, about 3 months ago, I never felt happier in my life. I felt like I was an Andalusian, and I tell everyone here that my heart and soul are still there. I have been considering moving to Spain and searching for work there. But that is not easy for latinos like myself, even though the latinos may be largest foreign community in Spain. I have been applying for jobs in Spain from here in Brazil, which is where I live, but haven't had any success yet.

Hey I just wanted to give you a tip, I'm American but my family is from northern Spain. If you want to improve your accent listen to audiobooks. They have several great audiobooks in Castilian Spanish, they have all of Brandon Sanderson's huge fantasy novels in Castilian, also they have classics like Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky and others.. people speak differently when they are reading, they speak more clearly and you hear the vocabulary better..

All of that and may I add... Get a coach to help you with pronunciation. Even a conscientious friend is good. Listening to any audio and make notes of anything that you suspect you many need help with. Also learn the alphabet with the correct pronunciation. That will help a lot also.

As a European it is so strange to me that he mentions his skin colour all the time. We do not have this issue of race in Europe. A nice person is a nice person no matter the race, and he seems a wonderful person. Glad he had a good time! Btw, the race thing reminds me of the American black soldiers that came to Germany during WW2. They were amazed that there was no discrimination here, and many had relationships and married German girls.

It is a natural thing to fear the strange and unknown to your society. What I mean is this constant issue with race. Like in this video, how often does he point out he is Afro-American??? I think it has to do with the fact that americans often identify themselves with their skin color categories kind of like other countries identify themselves with their nationality. They often also assume that those categories are universally understood which is a bit strange given the fact that the meanings of the terms changed even in their own history 😂 For example in which people belong to the "white" category
