Guy kidnapped. Elliot eastman explained about 10 days ago on a youtube video titled "i found my wife in the Philippines" @1:25. that he was recently loaned out 21k and collected 23.5k. and had sent 35k back out on the street to make more...and he spoke of how he was spending hundreds of thousands on their new sari sari store with solar system and starlink piso wifi... So he was openly advertising: 1. That he had, for the poor area, a year or two of a locals income in cash moving in and out 2. That he as an American was charging usury interest rates to local muslims (Quran bans interest) and 3. That heas an American was likely taking business from other local loan sharks in a red zone (really stupid thing to do).... The guy was so situationally unaware of the actual risks... He joked about being kidnapped....

What most people do not know is that there have been ongoing SF operations in Mindanao,Basilan,Sulu sea area since 9/11. Ongoing meaning NOW! Halloo i’m from the Philippines and this is what i’ve heard about his case(i live in the sibuco) from what i heard he was harassed by two mens back then, that’s why his(maybe) aware he was getting kidnapped, also during the time he was able to fend them off but this time there were four mens and they were armed, it was kinda suspicious how those mens went straight to Elliot’s room and the fact they didn’t took Elliot’s wife as well since she could tell the FBI since she’s an eye witness, and they said it’s not kidnapping, it’s abduction since the kidnappers they didn’t call or message for the ransom. Our place is currently loaded with FBIs, Military and Police from the US. To be honest this is the first time that happened in our place and Sibuco is not really dangerous, what’s more dangerous is Zamboanga there have been many cases recently about young girls going missing.

Tim, I haven’t watched your channel for a while, but I did subscribe way back when you first started your channel. I am 13 years living full time in the Philippines, and I have been advising people, especially expats, on what it means to live here. Saving face is why we don’t see public shouting and fighting, it’s kept within closed doors, or not at all, because respect is what matters here, it’s all some people have. I have lived a great life here for this long, because I don’t act like I would normally act back home in my country because we have no rights here I know the culture I know how people think, I live a simplistic life, I don’t get involved in anything much, I enjoy my partner, and her family and my mates I have a beer with on occasion. You are correct, we are looked at as very low of importance here, I mean the 16 year old Lazada delivery boy knows more than me, by my partner’s opinion 😊. Smile a lot, don’t get mad at anyone, don’t stand out, keep a low profile. I have seen a neighbor shot dead as he opened the gate to bring his car in, he was a pastor, and he disrespected someone, and the thing is, a shooting like this is very rarely investigated.

The recent kidnapping and murder of a foreigner starkly illustrate the rampant lawlessness and utter failure of the government to protect its citizens and visitors. I had friends attending college in Davao and parts of family in the Manado area of Sulawesi. There was a constant flow about atrocities not just from the Abu Sarif (sp) terrorists. We go to many places here in Mindanao but never to the NorthWest or even the South west for that matter. All the warning signs were there for him. The family had been warned but he did not heed those warnings unfortunately. Escaping by sea could put him almost anywhere. I’m not so sure they’re interested in a ransom unfortunately. He may have disrespected some of the locals with one of them being the wrong one. As a foreigner we must remember you never know who you’re talking to and always try to be respectful. I think it’s very naive of him to put himself in that situation. I remember a few months ago mentioning on a FB post that I didn’t recommend any foreigner that hasn’t extensively travelled, to just up and move to the Philippines. It’s all about situational awareness.

There are currently about 500 U.S. military personnel in the Philippines doing nothing to save him.

I don't think you realize what a tremendous task finding someone in that huge area is. There are thousands of jungle covered square miles of lands and millions of miles of sea filled with all sorts of peoples, plus the United States would just be making all the people hate us. He was a major criminal that was willingly breaking the law. If the Military got Filipino authority to search the area and bail him out, then next time when we need real help, the locals would never help. The terrorists used to field their own armies of hundreds and wipe out whole towns. The whole Philippine army would take years to track them down. The odds of finding one person is a situation successfully caried out one in a million times.

@@why7263 he wasn't terrified..he was mocking the threats of him being kidnapped and ignored what were clear warnings that the locals didn't like his behaviors.... Look at his video ten days ago "I found my wife in the Philippines" @ 1:25... Be openly talks about being a loan shark and changing usury interest rates to the local Muslims and talks of spending hundreds of thousands on his saru sari store, solar and starlink... Guy is none to bright... 1. Bragging he is throwing around cash as a loan shark and charging huge interest to locals (Quran bans interest) 2. Likely stepping on toes of local loan sharks... He knew of repeated threats of kidnapping... He didn't look scared to me...he looked like he was mocking them and had no real awareness of the actual threat for acting like an idiot in a red zone surrounded by unfriendlies...

Those kidnappers better pray Trump isn't reelected. They may have committed suicide. He'll send the seals. I've stayed in Digos and Davao. There's shady people all over in the Philippines, even Manila and Cebu. You need to take every precaution necessary when going there.

This guys video from Oct 10 “I found my wife..” he is talking about making money by lending it to locals and collecting interest? A very bad idea in a small community. Wikipedia says "Sharia prohibits riba, or usury, generally defined as interest paid on all loans of money. "

Lake Sebu is nice to visit but not for you to live there. That’s my advice as Dual Citizens.I travel a lot of places in Part of Mindanao Philippines but I still consider some remote area in Mindanao is not safe even a Filipino Citizen to go there.

To understand what is going on and how all of this started, you will need to read up on the history of the islands, before the arrival of the Spanish, these islands were a number of different counties/states/nations. The Spanish reduce the numbers, but it was not till the USA invasion of the Philippines did all these islands were force into one country. Which as never gone down well. Maybe just maybe it might be better to allow the area in red to be its own country

This is some good insight. A lot of people (americans because the N and S boarder is basically a straight line) fail to forget that tribal groups for 1000s of years have in recent history colonial boarders placed on them. I'll need to dive into the history to understand it more but i have a basic concept now.
