I worked in a venue where Lee did smaller gigs before taking it on tour to the stadiums. He is genuinely really lovely and humble. He is always surprised by the audience reaction and the fact people want to meet him. He always meets everyone and signs every autograph for fans. He's quieter off stage and just as funny. He would just be on stage before the show playing the piano and singing and chatting to the staff. An absolute pleasure to work with. Most of the comedians are. Some of the music artists? Not so much...

Totally agree... Lovely bloke. I met him briefly under similar circumstances. I was most surprised by how big he is close up. Into th 6 foots to my recollection. Big ol' dome up there. I saw two of these smaller pre tour gigs in our local small theatre (previously a Church). The funniest evenings of my life and the last one I attended was my first evening out since surviving a stay in ICU (in a 2 month coma and on life support). It was like having an injection of pure energy and really helped my (long) recovery. I was in a wheelchair in the front row and being so near to him was fabulous. After the show he greeted and spoke to everyone - a true genuine kind and warm man. I would love for him to have a comeback as there are still sooo many people who would love the chance to see him live, but we all know how much he adores his wife and family and can understand and admire why he has "retired" 🙂 x

Lee Evans is a legend in the UK and his style is unique , we are blessed with so many fantastic comics in the UK all different all hilarious . Glad you enjoyed watching him a lot of his act is specific to a lot of British subtleties that many non natives would find hard to grasp , but you do a good job for an American ! .

Unique? Sir Norman Wisdom. Using bad language..
@shadow-Sun2 жыл бұрын
@@iriscollins7583 I don't agree at all I was a fan of Norman Wisdom as a kid , but his comedy style was slapstick and pathos and one dimensional tripping over buckets of wallpaper paste , falling down a lot , getting into pickles that were childish and just a vehicle for the slapstick . All in all Norman wisdoms comedy was pretty basic and unsophisticated , Lee Evans is a physical performer true and I guess there is a small comparison to be made there with Norman Wisdom but they are as different as chalk and cheese Lee Evans has an acute observational skills based comedy style, telling a narrative that we can all identify with in our daily lives ,with funny anecdotes and absurd situations we can all relate to.Way , way more sophisticated and difficult to pull off succesfully than Mr Wisdom being chased around by an angry boss because of a misshap with a mop bucket ! . and the bad language element is completely irrelevant.

I was a roadie and local crew in London for 10 years. I set up and worked at his show at the O2 Arena (The Dome) in London many years ago. He isn't that crazy backstage but he was a genuinely nice bloke. This very rarely happens but he came backstage every day to chat and thank the crew. He even watched a football game with us backstage in between shows. They were also very generous with their catering to all the crew backstage, no matter what position. I remember this clearly because 90% of stars never come to chat or thank the workers that set up their show. The only others i can remember like him during my years were Kylie Minogue, The Script, Jay Z and a few others. Just to add, The O2 gig was filmed for his DVD. The doors that open center stage for him to walk through were not automated, They were opened in sync by a mate and I. You will likely see it wasn't perfect each time. lol

I met Lee once outside of a theatre in Covent Garden as I was on my way to a bar. He wasn't performing as he'd retired at this point, but he was still chatting to people and signing stuff outside. I managed to get an autograph and have a quick chat with him before I moved on. Got to the bar, ordered a drink, was waiting for a pal, and who walks in and sits down beside me... Lee. Loved his company, really down to earth, very quick witted. It was surreal though because he wasn't flailing about and losing his body weight in sweat.
