Some of the inspiration for Alan Partridge was a guy called Richard Madeley from his husband and wife daytime show called Richard & Judy.

That's interesting to know, makes sense cause he used to put his foot in it regularly on This Morning

Wrong. Richard and judy first aired in 2001. Alan Partridge first appeared on bbc radio in 1991 and then first on BBC2 in 1997.
@Calrissian3608 ай бұрын
@@OvercookedOctopusFeet No, he's right. Richard and Judy were presenters on 'Granada Tonight' (ITV Nightly news in the Northwest) back in the 80's. Madely was a twat even back then. He and Judy got together in the first place after they had an affair on set. She was married to someone else at the time. Incidentally, Tony Wilson (Factory Records, Hacienda Nightclub, Joy Division manager, etc) also worked on the show at the same time, who was played by Coogan in the 2002 movie '24 Hour Party People'.

@@Calrissian360 No, he's wrong. This is taken from a Coogan newspaper article in 2023. "Many people have likened Alan to Richard Madeley, with some fans claiming his mannerisms and style of speaking echo the ITV presenter perfectly. Steve only fuelled this speculation last year, after telling BBC Breakfast hosts Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt, "I suppose if you fused Richard Madeley with Piers Morgan, you might get close to who Partridge is at the moment. However, he (Steve Coogan) has since clarified his position to confirm that he is "not based on Richard Madeley." Daily Mirror 31/23

Top Gear was also a magazine. A lot of Alan’s digs at Farmers come from the controversy at the time surrounding Mad Cow Disease (BSE) and the human form of the disease which is 100% fatal and caused huge anxiety about British Beef around the World in the 1990s.

The Top Gear Magazine and Top Gear in general is complicated. The massively more famous TG is the one you know 2002-2015. It is still going btw, but no one watches it. However there was a long running version from 77-2001, which had many presenters through the yrs including Clarkson and May. Anyway the magazine started in 93 (and is still going) so since this series is from 97 Clarkson, May, Hammond or even all three could have articles in that very issue. Since they all wrote for Top Gear Magazine as well (Maybe Hammond would've been too young at 18).
