How does McDonald's in Croatia compare to McDonald's in the USA? It was a lot of fun finding out! What country will we try next? 🍟

Local bakerys are our strong point, they are the go to quick cheap food here in Croatia. For "burek" and a yogurt cup (it goes together, believe me) you'll need 2 euros while a Big Mac combo is around 8-10 euro (average Joe in Croatia has 500 euro salary). "Megić" or MC donalds is on the expensive side for most.

Truffle burgers exist in every croatian mcdonalds, whole country has the same menu, no regional differences. The truffle burger is called zigante tartufi burger and it is quite a sad thing compared to real truffle recipes that we have here, but if people like it why not. Another thing you will notice is that almost every croatian mcdonalds has a mccafe that makes normal coffees, espressos and machiatos etc, since coffee is very important in croatia and they have to have coffee if they want to compete, in croatia you can get coffee literally everywhere, so it makes sense for them to adopt it as well.

Artificial sinthetic Truffle flavor *! There is no way to eat truffles outside of a season. And there is no way to store truffle or his flavor. It must be consumed in 24-48 hours. All that, pestos, cheeses, oils with truffle flavor are using artificial sinthetic chemical compound. Of which is most notable 2,4 dithiapentane. Sulfuric derivate of crude oil, yeah that oil of which we make gas! Majority of restaurants are using that. Istria same as other truffle regions in the world has jumped on that band wagon. Idk for other regions but in Istria if you want to eat real truffles you can only in restaurants with certifikate "tartufi vero".People don't understand how rare and delicate truffle is,and that the real truffles are sooooo scarse. Hense the price, for example not even truffle hunters can afford to eat white truffle. All of the white truffles found in Istria end up in high end restaurants across the world. Majority in New York in less than 24h since there is high amount people willing to pay the price that can be up to 100k for a kilo depending of the season. To not going into all the types of truffles in Istria there is three "main" white, black winter and summer black truffle which tastes like potato and the summer one is the one in restaurants flavored with artificial chemicals. You'll know you are eating a real truffles when they serve you with pasta bianco. Waiter brings you a dish with pasta bianco (just cooked pasta with butter) and then give you to smell it, then put down on the table a digital scale and weights a truffle that he scrapes it in your dish when you say enough he weights truffle again and charges you a difference. Then and only then you can say you have eaten truffles.
@myflyingkidney
@myflyingkidney Жыл бұрын
@@darkoulmer6881 Of course, if you eat real truffles the waiter should put them directly on your plate of pasta or whatever other dish you are eating. But you can't expect that in a fast food restaurant.

@@myflyingkidney I know my rant is kinda long, but my point is that in McD's or in any fast food or fine dining restaurant that serves "truffles" outside of a season is scaming customers, because they are using most common olive oil flavoured with synthetic chemical compound. Even when they are making summer black truffle or imported Chinese one which they buy for couple bucks a kilo they are using oil with truffle flavour. And scaming naive people.

I am now generalising but he thing is mcdonalds in croatia isn't considered especially cheap food. If you take a mcmenu it will cost you around 35 to 40 kunas for a sandwich and some potatos, and at the same time you can get a proper meal for around the same price which would consist of soup, peace of meat and sides and a salad and it can be delivered to your office. Now this is Zagreb, other parts of croatia may differ, but in general no one thinks of mcdonalds a proper food, it is more of a guilty pleasure or a treat. Something you eat sometimes but not often. Very often people only take an icecream or an apple pie or something like that as a snack. If you ask most croatians a proper lunch is a piece of meat and potatoes, or a stew or a goulash or something like that that you eat out of a plate with cutlery. A sandwich is a always snack, something small you eat during the day before youget to eat real food. so mcdonalds will never have the same status here as other food does, it will always stay a non-everyday thing, something you sometimes indulge in.

@myflyingkidney that’s very interesting. In the USA, it is generally considered cheap (although prices have gone up). We are aligned with the Croatian school of thought, though, that we’d rather have that delicious soup. We had Goulash and Čušpajz in Zagreb and loved both!!!

@@awaytogether glad you liked the food :) Try a few truffle dishes if you get a chance at some point. I also loveeee truffles and I am so glad I live in a country where they exist and are traditional. Depending on where you are in the country try restaurant Vodnjanka (either locations in Pula or Zagreb) or restaurant Zigante near Motovun, Istria. A bit pricey but wonderful food. @@powderskier5547 haha not far from the truth. It is even more so out of cities, when you get to someone's house in a small town or a village. Generally the mom or the grandma will lay out around 25 kilograms of different types of food, homemade bread, soups, sides, smoked meats, sausages, nice piece of meat, vegetables that she most likely grows herself etc... and then she will say every single time "I am sorry I didn't have a lot of time to cook, so I just made a few simple dishes, I am really sorry there is nothing more" it is equally, endearing, funny and infuriating all at the same time. I can't talk about this McDonalds location (looks like Zagreb), but in Rijeka there are 2 McDonalds locations and they both supply their meat from Gavrilović, a local Croatian meat provider, so you're actually getting fresh beef rather than the processed sludge that was exposed in an internet video like a decade ago. Ofc I can't generalize every American McDonalds location like that, you probably have some better locations than others as well where the meat is actually meat.

That is so cool!!! This McDonald's was just outside Rovinj. Love the localized approach. It's not fresh meat at all, it is locally produced, but the same frozen shit made by the strict mcd recipes like anywhere else, source - been putting those frozen lumps of minced meat on the grill in jurisiceva, also known as restaurant no1, for two years in my student days, long time ago but those things never change, buns are from klara also come in frozen, nothing is fresh there except seasonal veggies for seasonal sandwiches, french fries have expiration time of 7 minutes after frying - that's how "fresh" that food is.

No truffle burger in Zagreb McDonald's 🙂

Your food laws, if you want to call them that, allow to use meat glue and scraps to "create" patties and that's exactly what McDonald's does. In Europe this is outlawed, the patties are made from 100 % ground beef and it's not the scraps. That's why you had the impression, that the patty was somewhat different, juicier, fresher...oh and the same laws go for the UK as single country that did not want to obey some of the European laws. They won't be missed! They mix the drinks with syrup and water. Therefore the taste of the local tap water is essential for a good coca cola. Croatia has very good water, so...:-)
