Blue Riband is actually pronounced a bit like "ribbon" (in fact it's common for people to mistakenly call it a "blue ribbon"). They've changed the recipe recently and they just don't taste how they used to.

Hi Guys, purely my own opinion I think the main problem with Frys Turkish Delight is they've had to tweak the original recipe to enable it to flow into the mould which results in a slightly less appealing mouthfeel, I used to love it when I was young but not anymore, Raspberry Ruffles I've always thought of those as a Gentleman's version of Bounty, they're also available as individually wrapped loose pieces sold by weight 😇
@FinnLovesFood2 жыл бұрын
Interesting about changing the recipe. It did seem a bit different from regular Turkish Delight we've tried.

Frys have belonged to Cadburys for over a hundred years. The Raspberry Ruffle bar is also very old. The Blue Riband is pronounced ( rib and) like the bone, they are usually milk chocolate. Viscount also comes in orange. Love the hygienic way you both handle the food.

Chunky is better than normal kitkat in my opinion. I have never really liked lion bars though. Fox classic was a childhood favourite!

the best one's i think out of all those is the lion bar, crunchie, kitkat, bounty, turkish delight, the rest not too bothered about, but all good to eat as always... we have our grand kids over for vacation for a week so feeding them has been interesting, they don't seem to know what half the veg we have are and were very picky eaters, for example i like cheddar cheese on toasted whole meal, they wouldn't touch it unless it was on cheap white bread, really annoyed me they not being taught about all types of foods... anyway i went to local baker who was happy to help and he made me a small loaf of every type he makes i sliced them and toasted them with cheese on and told the kids to try at least 3 of them... the whole lot was gone in a matter of an hour, took a few bribes with pocket money for them to try it but for the rest of the week they didnt have any white bread at all.

I seem to recall that I preferred white bread as a kid. It sounds like the variety of fresh baked breads is helping to change their minds!
@davebirch19762 жыл бұрын
There is also a lemon version of the Turkish Delight which is nice. There used to be an orange flavour Viscount but I've not seen one for ages. It would be interesting for you to do a comparison between the original British version and the American version of things like Skittles, Starburst, Twix, KitKat. And also things that are named differently but is the same thing like our wagon wheels and your moon pie, our milky way and your 3 musketeers, and our mars bar and your milky way

Have you ever tried Rose or Violet Creams? They are a very traditional sweet, but are somewhat controversial option, as a lot of people are put off by the floral flavours. They are a chocolate coated soft fondant (like in the Frys bars) but flavoured with either Rose or sweet Violet. I'm very fond of them and have even made them myself (along with assorted truffles).

Regarding ‘riband’, I think you Americans, and some of us over here, would call and spell it ‘ribbon’, riband is an older word for the same thing, only pronounced riband in regards the chocolate bar. Fry’s Turkish Delight’s a bit more subtle than your average chocolate bar, a bit more “grown-up”! 🙂
