The irony of this amigo/video...Still amazes me with , that Bitwig STILL has no slicing function.

I started making music on the C64 and later the Amiga, I loved playing with the trackers, but it's all the past and everything is way better now.

Nice video! It shows again that the Bitwig Sampler needs to be extended to have a mode like the Ableton "Simpler" which can just autoslice INSIDE the sample and you just hit the note keys to play the slices. This is for me the most missed feature in Bitwig. Even with Kontakt (!!) this slicing workflow is easier than with Bitwig. Edit: But I just LOVE Bit-8! Missed to add this. The result of your work sounds great.

This is a big wish for me, convenient sample slicing. The tools are there, but it's not trivial to set up. I guess right now I'd use the Pitch-12 or maybe make something in the grid, but adjusting sample start time with a Value knob is not ideal.

This AKAI stretching, you could also do with Protracker by using the 9 command (if I remember right) which changes the playstart offset of the sample... Had whole pattern lanes full of 901, 902, 903... 9FF 😂

Awesome video. The idea of using the pitch-12 for slices and channel modulator for switching the modes to manipulate the sampler kind of blew my mind here. I thought about trying to do that with pitch-12 but hadn't tried it yet. Seeing you using both has kind of expanded my mind on what is possible. It seems like a reasonable way of getting slices to work with the sampler. Using the channel modulator to enable/disable different effects that are chained on might be a great way for further glitches, especially with the colors per channel in the piano roll.

Maybe one day we may get an upgrade to the sampler, all we seem to get is filters and modulators for the grid while basic daw improvement is lacking At least the Amigo looks fun for $10 and you don't need a degree in computer programming

ideally you'd have to make a multisample of each note, for polyphonic use, as the internal degradation in the old samplers is polyphonic - but bit8, as it is an effect device, is not polyphonic, but reacts monophonic on the sum you feed it. in other workds, with your method it works, as long as you play the sample monophonic. but if you want to keep it real when playing polyphonic, each voice must have its own bit8.

How in the year 2024 bitwig STILL doesn't have a simple basic feature like slice in sampler is beyond comprehension. Propellerheads Reason v1.0 from 2000 had this feature nearly 24 years ago!? What in the hell is wrong with this company??
@pbrninja197 ай бұрын
Well, we could make the same criticism in the other direction, like why are so many VSTs putting in their own crude modulation systems because so many DAWs lack one? There aren't enough competent people or hours to do everything. (I still hope that the sampler is next on the list.)

Great plugin. Would lvoe if you could drop a clip straight in to it though. If they could someone let you edit a track like you could in Octame (verticial notes) rather that piano roll.

This reminded me... I have some tracks I created on an Amiga in the early 1990s on floppy disk. Need to find a way to extract the audio samples and sequencer info so I can recreate them in Bitwig. I also had Sonic Foundry (later Sony) Acid... which was awesome for samples and loops. Realtime timestretching to match the key defined on the track. Would love to know how to achieve loop timestretching and key matching in Bitwig, please.

Too bad that these kind of plugins only slightly mimics how it sounded. Like all of those “tape emulators” that just add noise, vibrato and LP filter (or lower sample rate and quantisation in this case). I would like more of “the real deal”.
