I had a boss whos legal first name was "Gerald" but was known by "Greg" Everyone associated with our business knew to call him "Greg" and those people like sales people would call asking to speak to "Gerald XXXXXXX" We would know right away that they did not know Greg and would automatically be asked to leave a message. If they insisted, we told them he was out of the office even though he was sitting right next to you. Even folks at the top corporate level called him "Greg"

I regularly hire people at a college. If i see a resume more than 3 pages, it goes in the trash. I might read it later for kicks but i will never hire them. 1-2 pages is fine, but keep in relevant. 3 pages is really pushing it.

Yeah, at 3 pages you're not going to read a resume. If the guy actually has 3 resume pages worth of experience, you're either going to look him up other ways or pass on him as over qualified.

Story 1: Wow, that ex-boyfriend is definitely toxic. It's not nice to judge people on the way they look. Don't get me started when it comes to cheating in relationships of forces your partner to do thing they dont want to do.Good for the OP for standing up for herself. I hope the ex-boyfriend learned a valuable lesson because he deserved it. I also hope that the OP in this story is doing well in her life.

Normally I am all about the step child doing a thorough and dispassionate job of assessing the work their step parent is doing to be a parent. It's so easy for children to take that for granted. But it sounds like this step mom has put in too much work alienating this poster.

With the naming tradition, I have one in my family where all the men in the family have Paul as their middle name, because of my great grandpa Paul, but my brother has Paul as part of his middle name, like naming traditions are dumb people shouldn’t be pressured into it, and the parents have the right to name their kid how ever they like

Story 1: Well done by the OP to ruin this huge jerks life, and he 100% deserved it too. People like him are among the lowest levels of trash and the OP did the world a favor by exposing him to everyone. Story 2: How on earth is any of this the fault of the OP here? The sister just clearly cannot handle both rejection and the fact that, for whatever reason, the birth family wants nothing to do with them. I get wanting to know your birth family if you are adopted, but if they don't, then you should just let it go. It's obviously going to sting, but no need to start blaming this on someone else and try to get them to fix it or do something. Story 3: No, OP is not a jerk here, but it sure sound like Carole sure has been over the years. I absolutely hate it when step-parents or new spouses come in and try to force things on someone else's children and talk major garbage about the other parent and then somehow have the gall to wonder why they arent liked or loved. Major tough love was needed here... if you can even call it love. I can almost guarantee that the OP will go low to no contact with Carole and the dad once they are able to. Story 4: OP is not a jerk at all here. These kinds of traditions really seem unnecessary and somewhat archaic. You should be able to name your child whatever you want, in this case Ezra, not something your family demands. Also, if this is how your family is treating Ezra now, even refering to him as "The Child", do you really want them to be around him growing up? They all sound terrible. Story 5: I call BS on the fact that the family says that none of this is personal, it 100% is and its pretty obvious. I get wanting some family time, but to constantly exclude the gf like this is really rude and uncalled for. The OP is really caught between a rock and a hard place, but moving forward, i would limit contact if you're ever able to move out, because it sounds like things are just going to continue to get worse. Story 6: The SIL here is a major drama queen here. The OP did absolutely nothing wrong here. The SIL is just trying to stir the pot here for literally no reason here, and if i were the OP, i would just tell her to screw off at this point. Some women like the SIL are just that petty and annoying when it comes to stuff like this.

Story 5: “they sound like they dont have a good reason for not wanting your girlfriend around”. But they do. The family wants to spend *family* time with OP. Not time with OP *and* their GF. And see, id be more sympathetic to OP and the GF if they were together for a long time but a year, really? Nah. Honestly if OP does what AITJ says thats a quick way to get the GF and Op seen in a bad light.

There are good ways and bad ways to uphold traditions. If the tradition was giving the first male child "William" as a middle name, then that makes way more sense than as a first name. I speak from experience as I share "Steele" as a middle name with many generations and plan to continue if I get the chance in the future.

2nd story. OP isn't the jerk for not being interested in finding out who his biological parents are. I sometimes watch a dutch show called Spoorloos. It is show about adults, they were usually adopted as kids by parents from the Netherlands, who want to find their birth parents and the people of the show help search for their parents and film their experience. Sometimes the birth parents want to connect with the kid(s) they gave up for adoption and sometimes they don't want anything to do with them. So it is best that the OP's sister goes to therapy and learn to accept that their biological parents and family don't want anything to do with her. 3rd story. The OP isn't the jerk, the stepmom is, being pushy about having the OP call and think of you as his/her mother is already a wrong step but talking crap about the OP's biological mother who he/she loves is already too far. The stepmom needs to keep her jealously in check, I mean if someone start bashing something you love or someone you love so openly you wouldn't want to friends with that person much less wanting to treat them as family.

The name thing is dumb. If you’re guilting and pressuring family into doing it, it’s no longer a tradition, it’s an enforced social obligation, similar sounding but different implication. If I got to that point in that family, I’d take my partners name, drop my first name and say I’m not letting a family tradition I had no say in decide the names of my children. If that’s the hill they want to die on when it doesn’t affect them in any way, their just selfish and meddling in other peoples lives for no apparent practical reason

I disagree with you, with #5, sometimes you just want to spend time in family, without partners, nothing personal, just a family time, I agree that they could include her more often, but that's on the parents, and the plans they have, if the daughter is bringing her partner, that's another story.

Story 5: im with the family on this one.. if they want to spend time together then its as a family.... OP's partner is just a girlfriend.. not a fiancee, not a wife... But is the current person they are sleeping with.. not a family member... And if the gf has to be that controlling to HAVE to be included in OP's time with his parents.. thats obnoxious

I mostly agree, but I do think it partially depends on circumstances. Like how often do these family outings happen? If OP has very little free time and his family is trying to monopolize it then they could be the controlling ones here. However if it's like once every 2-4 weeks then the girlfriend needs to get over it. If she wants to get closer to the family then the two of them should make plans to visit with the family. Not her commandeer their family time.

Story 4: OP is the jerk. Not for ignoring the tradition, but for naming his kid 'Ezra'. Seriously, they have trouble with the name 'William' so they decided to name their kid after a crazed actor with nonce energy? That is a BigBrained™ move that's going to get that kid a _lot_ of trouble with bullies when he gets to school.

Maybe they like the name Ezra? It doesn't have anything to do with the idiot celebrity. That's like if I had a son or daughter and I called them something like "Donald" or "Elsa", they wouldn't immediately think "Oh you got named after the doofus president years ago!" or "So you're named after some Disney princess huh!".
