Story 5: the situation is simple, tbh. Who is paying the bills? OP. Until the gf is living and paying her part of the bills, it is OP's place. If she really cared about it she would of moved in. Two, if her name is on the lease she is responsible for the home. Meaning she should be paying her share even if not there. If she is not doing that the arrangement is more tenent/landlord which means OP has the right to move things as he sees fit.

Story 5. Normally you would call out the girlfriend as being controlling and manipulative. He's paying the bills and she doesn't live there. She has lots of time to "soak up atmosphere" or whatever when she goes back to visit. He has more emotional time invested in this place that she didn't want to be a part of. I think she has a fear of leaving or moving in or just wants to assert whatever power she can. I had a girlfriend that would do similar things at my apartment (not "ours"). I needed to buy a welcome mat..... that didn't fit under the door when it was opened. I needed to buy a toilet paper holder... for a place I didn't own and didn't give 2 shits if the toilet paper didn't have a holder. Stuff like that

Um just wanted to point out he said she doesn't spend much time with him but also says she comes over once or twice a week, her dad died and she has a job she likely spends a lot of time dedicating her time to not to mention she probly wants to spend more time with her mom who will be living alone without her husband or daughter around and they seem to have a good enough relationship to be sensitive to that not to mention moving can be very stressful, as an adult with all of that going on it makes sense she'd be way too busy to visit more than once or twice a week and also why didn't the bf go visit her. I think the bf is acting like a child because he can't comprehend that her life has more to it than just him and I don't think the way the gf acted was abnormal because lots of women tend to be very particular about were they want things placed as they learned that things go in very specific places around a house and it's only normal to get thrown off and stressed out when something you perceive as normal and right is out of place and technically her name is on the lease so legally it is her home too so she's not wrong about her saying it's "our place" but it would be a different story if she said it was just hers, tbh the bf seems to be more focused on getting her to move in and spend more time with him even though she spends a fair amount of time with him for a working individual with a lot to deal with but the bf also doesn't seem all that empathetic towards her situation and relationship with her family

I think the big thing here is that OP admits that he agreed to this arrangement ahead of time and is acting like it's no big deal when obviously it is. Why is rent an issue when all it is is placement of a cleaning product or saying that this is "our place" because Her name being on the lease DOES mean that it's their place, legally. That's the whole purpose of putting both names on the lease. If he wasn't comfortable with the situation,he shouldn't have agreed to it in the first place, he IS acting like a child.

Im reading some comments on story 5, and i just want to say Bf is not the jerk, the gf is being controlling and manipulative. Shes not an active resident of the house, she hasnt done anything significant in the house, barely visited a few times. And she doesnt pay rent either so she cant even argue that she is actively doing anything aside from "my name is on the lease". If the genders were reversed, this wouldve been a darker comment section, and you know it. Move in, pay rent, spend time in the house and make your mark on it... Story 5: I'm losing my shit when people claim the BF is the jerk in here. Here's the thing: If you and your partner just bought a place and both of you are on the lease and providing for the house, you're both the owners of the place at the time of the current lease. However, if only one provides full time for the place with bills and rent etc, the other not providing anything and still living with your mum and not doing anything to help with your new place, it's technically not your place. The court would be on the BFs side of the story considering he has all the bills and proof needed in case the court asked him for some kind of proof that he provides for the house full time. The GF would in no way be let off so easily of claiming that the place is hers too even if she's written on the lease as being one of the owners. The court will rule against the GF. The piece of paper saying "you are the rightful owner(s) of the place" can be changed at any time even if the lease is still ongoing and hasn't expired yet. It can be renewed with changes and new set of rules if need be. As far as I'm aware, this is how it works in some places in Europe (at least where I've witnessed). I'm unsure about the US since I'm an outsider and my place is not to dictate what Americans can and can't do/say.

If the bf's name isn't on the lease she can't force him to pay rent (while he offers to do so he can still sue her for covering her pay because his name wasn't on the lease to pay the rent fees.)
