Thank you for this. I just got some surplus ammo cans, and was wondering how to go about cleaning/restoring them. This will help me a lot.

I start by checking that the can for one will steal sral by filling it with water and turning it upside down, if it passes, it's dried, then sandblasted inside and out. The recoated with 3 coats of Epoxy Enamel, heat curing between each coat. Silicone treatment of the gasket, and graphite lubrication of all moving parts of the can.

Did you replace your rubber gaskets? I’m going to do a restoration of two Navy Small Arms Ammunition cans, and my seals are are very hard to get out.
@ajcj19705 жыл бұрын
My gaskets were in good shape and came out with very little persuasion, then I applied a silicone lubricant to rejuvenate them and reinstalled them. My first thought on removal of a hard to remove gasket would be to heat up the outside of the can (opposite the gasket) with a heat gun to see if that would loosen the original adhesive. I personally would try everything to reuse the original gasket (as long as it’s not dry rotted) if possible. I’ve also seen a gentleman remove the gasket, then filled the gasket channel with a silicone caulk, using that as the new gasket. Hope that helped.

How did you know what kind of can it was? I am looking for a similar model but have nothing to search other than "square ammo can" which brought me here. Any help is appreciated. Great job with the clean up and video.

It took awhile to figure it out. Type in mod 0 ammo can into the google search. You’ll see some pictures and information come up.

Thanks man. You seem like the kind of guy is using this platform for the reason it was intended before everybody was yelling at a camera for views & ad money. I respect that. Sorry for ranting but if you haven't checked out Forgotten Weapons, IraqVeteran8888, DemolitionRanch, WarriorPoetSociety, and few others i will edit in later - you might enjoy them. This site can be addicting when there is so much content from amazing people of similar interest, but your channel reminds me it serves to share, educate, entertain, & solve problems. Not just occupy every waking moment on my phone with mindless content. Again sorry for the rant. But your channel is lik at hidden gem walking through a 4th of July / Veteran's Day expo with military surplus tent explaining things in plain english to those who visit.

How did you dispose of the used evaporust liquid? Thanks
@ajcj19704 жыл бұрын
It’s biodegradable and extremely safe. You can pour it down the drain or in your yard if you like.
