What a store! I live in Massachusetts and found a Pat Metheny Group album at Goodwill with an Amoeba price sticker that I grabbed half because of the sticker! Having not visited SF for about a decade I’ve been concerned the city is overrun with homeless issues, drugs and crime as that’s the images seen on social media and the news. It’s nice to see images that show the city I remember.
@jtsrecordroom3963 Жыл бұрын
First of all.. The homeless situation is greatly exaggerated. That was my 5th trip in 2 years.. no problem. They are mostly down by City Center.. I think it is called..a mall, actually. Glad you liked the video ! ✌️

Stellar trips each time ! I wish I would have made it to Dead & Company's last show at Oracle ( where The Giants play ) A big time homecoming and the end of an era.. Oh well.. I really struggle with those big stores JT, they are so overwhelming. You need a specific list which I suck at having. I always like to find something unexpected but I just never know where to go! Always hit world music and then the walls looking for cool stuff. Nice Los Lobos playing than Cynics album. You must have got the YT warning on music so you had to revert to YT music. Happens all the time on my store tours. Enjoyed the visit JT. Saints for $10, I got that one, good album but for that price I would buy and send it to someone else.

Hi JT, As you know we lived in southern California a few years ago. Unfortunately I never made it up to NorCal. Someday when we're moved back I will be going to San Francisco. Patty's been there several times with work, but not me yet. Amoeba looks massive! Sadly, it looks like massive prices too! I got a clean copy of that Joe South album sometime last winter for $3! It's very good. Ssssh is one of the only Ten Years After albums I don't have. I remember the song "Sheriff" by The Tenants on the radio in the 80s as they were Canadian. I have a copy of Peter Murphy's "Deep" on compact disc from when it was first released. I enjoyed a virtual walk by Fisherman's Wharf at the end of the video. ✌

Many of the prices were good... Joe South was 3.00 , like yours. The Tenants were 3.00. Peter Murphy 20.00 same as online. Ten Years After was 9.00 on a 2nd mint press. @@jtsrecordroom3963 In conjunction with that Laughing Clowns comp they also put out two other Ed releases. One of Ed's solo stuff titled Singles '86 - '96 which is a really great period and a killer reformed Aints live record called Live At Marrickville Bowlo. They're all on Prince Melon/Fatal records. If you see Ed's name on something you can't go wrong in my opinion. Next I'll get you into Rowland S Howard who along with Ed are probably my two favourite guitarists & Australian songwriters. Excellent tour of Amoeba Music and maybe I need to put that one on my "Record Stores to Visit" list when we do our California coast tour. Great Joe Strummer find there! Everything you picked up is quite amazing, your trip was definitely worthwhile and you went to a lot of places I've been wanting to visit. We were talking about going out there maybe in September after the tourist season dies down, but quite honestly, we are very tired of so much driving lately. I just got back from helping my son in law move which required that I pick him up in Unity, Saskatchewan (3.5 hours from where I live) and taking him up to Grand Prairie (7.5 hours from Unity) so he could load up a U-Haul, drive all the way back to Unity, help unload the truck, then I had to drive the truck 40 minutes south to drop it off and then drive all the way back home. So, I say all that to mention that we've decided not to go anywhere else that is a long distance until next spring since we just moved here and then went down and seen the family in Utah. I think we've put about 10,000 kilometers on the car since we moved the first of July. It's time to take a stay-cation I think.

Hello 👋 I visited San Francisco way back in 1987 from New Zealand where i live. Good seeing some of the sights , like Fisherman's Wharf. I remember the cable cars would stop there. I also remember seeing singer Chris Isaak in the Haight Ashbury district in a venue named I - Beam. The city has good character, the old houses etc. I liked Bauhaus when Peter Murphy fronted the group. I noticed the British Punk band Eater as you were flicking through the records in the,store. I liked them. The Saints were popular in the UK.

Hi JT. I've seen a few videos showing Amoeba, and the size of it still makes my mind boggle. A record shop that size would never survive here in the UK now, as energy costs have made it impossible. It's also sad to see old department stores that have survived over a century now closing ... The nearest we have to Amoeba is the HMV chain. I think they are really struggling. Thankfully small record shops selling a mix of new and secondhand records are thriving, and new shops keep popping up ... I've not seen that Joe Strummer Black Friday release. Maybe a few copies made it over to the UK, but Black Friday isn't a thing here like Record Store Day in April ... Early Saints are wonderful. Good luck with finding 'I'm Stranded'. It's probably been reissued, if you can't find an original. I saw Ed Kuepper live - probably back in the 90s - and sadly there were only a handful of people there. His bands the Aints and the Laughing Clowns are worth checking out too.

Wasn't this a bowling alley at one time? You explained that. I also believe it was a club with bands playing. I think I saw the Sea Hags there once.

Yes it was a bowling alley up until 1996 ? Also a Pool Hall on the west side ( towards the park ). I lived at North Lake Tahoe, so.I never made it down to that building until.it became Ameoba 🎵 Thanks for your comment !
