We live on the North West of Ireland and finally after 25 years we have our first Flower ! Mind you it is grown outdoors

Wow 25 years!!! Is that a konjac or Titanum? What a labor of love.. but I think the leaves are my favorite part 😀 Congratulations on your bloom!! How did it smell?

I love your channel! I purchased a pink voodoo lily this year (Amorphophallus Bulbifier) and it grew bulbils on the leaves. I didn’t know what they were at first. I normally store my pots of voodoo lilies in my garage (zone 6b USDA). I leave the corms in the pots. When should I remove the bulbils from the leaves and plant them?
@PlantzNThings4 жыл бұрын
Isn't it such an interesting plant! I planted the baby bulb/corm when the leaf dies back.. i just pushed them into the soil lightly covering them with soil
@orchidsadutchy49409 жыл бұрын
The biggest one is impressive. Does amorphophallus make side shoots? What an interesting plant. They have these at our botanical garden in Helsinki, but they were full of aphids.
@GardeningatDouentza9 жыл бұрын
Hi Bill, great update. Aren't these plants such individuals? I lifted mine yesterday. Do you know, the one that flowered for me this year just didn't send up any leaves at all this year. I feared the worst when lifting it but the bulb is fine and not rotted - with two grow points now. I'm not sure if I will make a video. Maybe I will because, despite both of us having a flowering Amorphophallus konjac this year, our experience has been quite different. PS Got swapped a dead horse arum this autumn and can't wait to see what it does as it has a different cycle and is just waking up now in the greenhouse :)

I really don’t know what to do at this point my amorphophallus muelleri is starting to produce a leaf spike just now even when I planted it back in April how long do the leaf petioles last 3-4-5-6 months? And also do these plants get spider mites because I see when ever i bring in my tropical plants the spider mites pop out of nowhere I can’t really bring them in unless I I have some led flour sent lights whatever those are I can’t keep it outside outherwise it freeze I don’t have a green house I’m leaning tords keeping it indoors I’m just wondering if these may get spider mites.

Hello! I recently got one of these and one branch of the "leaf" has turned soft and I'm getting a few small brown spots on the leaves. Am I doing something wrong?

Gorgeous! But soon you will have to give away some of those plants, Bill. Haa.haa.. you ditched the bigger plumeria trees and kept the amorphophallus konjacs...haa...haaa.. you're right back from where ya started. But you really have done a nice job at accommodating the grow space. Sweet.
@PlantzNThings9 жыл бұрын
+Dreia B the konjacs will be dormant in no time...lol.. but yes right now they take up loads of space don't they...lol
@NGNG39 жыл бұрын
PlantzNThings Good luck with them! : D I'm in the same boat, my friend! I can't part from the plumeria trees. LOL I'll do all I can to save them from the torments of rain, snow, winds & more... LOL By the way, have you noticed another tree bloomed for me? (See my avatar.) This one is a true gem. Too bad it was for a short while. The temps gotten really cold and wet here. But suddenly in the last three days, we have had very warm temps. Go figure.

Can amorphophallus grow 2 stems both with a leaf? Because my amorphophallus grew something from the base of it's stem (not from the corm) and I still don't know if it's a bloom or another leaf

Only found out about this plant because I saw a video showing bright pink along the edge of its leaves, ever seen that?

These are beautiful. What is the less formal name for this plant? Can you start it from seed because I would love to purchase one.

Where did you get the tuber? I live in S Fl where we rarely get freezes, think I could grow this outside here? Cool plant and I love konjac for vegan sushi!
@PlantzNThings8 жыл бұрын
I bought mine from ebay... if you are in south Florida they should be hardy in the ground outside. if you grow it in a pot and there is a risk of a freeze you can pull them into the garage.
@tosha83177 жыл бұрын
Char Covelesky I'm in So. GA and have had mine in a pot outside for years and mine grows just fine. I've never planted in ground because of grass and weeds, as well as a husband that gets happy with roundup. I have this one and another one.

Have you tried repotting a month after emergence? Mine surprised me and got two feet tall out of a 5" pot, I'm thinking it might want more space but I don't want to shock it.
@seiyuokamihimura50824 жыл бұрын
Question. Why dont you grow your crop plants through the winter? Or are you not intending to ever harvest and have some to replant? Still trying to figure out your goals years after subbing. Lol.
@PlantzNThings4 жыл бұрын
I am just growing them as an ornamental. No plans on eating them. I also have limited space in the house over winter.. so if it can go dormant thats a plus.
@seiyuokamihimura50824 жыл бұрын
@@PlantzNThings i can understand that as a reason. I often think ube would make a pretty ornamental.

@PlantzNThings5 жыл бұрын
I'm actually not sure... I believe it edible but I grow it strictly for ornamental value. it does take 3 years to produce a potato sized corm.. maybe less if grown it perfect condition

How do you differentiate between the amorphorallus and dranunculus? I have three what I thought were amorphorplallus but now suspect they are dranunculus. I lave them in the ground through the british winter and they have flowered four years sin a row.
@PlantzNThings9 жыл бұрын
It's the leaves... the dracunculus leaves remind me of a bird with its wings outstretched sorta covering it's head.. where the amorphs are more like a palm tree with lots of leaflets
@seiyuokamihimura50824 жыл бұрын
Dang. I didn't even make it 3 minutes. And now im starving. Guess I'll just go make some tofu since i dont have any shirataki noodles.

Do you think you'll have little bulbs available again like last year? There was a mix up when I messaged you about it because I sent a message to your Facebook page and I don't think you saw it till much later. :X
@PlantzNThings9 жыл бұрын
I might have some available. The shipping costs got to be a little more expensive than I anticipated. This year I might need to ask people to pay shipping. Some of the envelopes fell into the small package category and postage jumped from 2 dollars to 10 dollars. It was crazy
@Chamelea9 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I was surprised about that. I sent a small plant to someone for a trade and it was 10 dollars too. The only way you can get a decent price is if you can get that box to fit through that tiny mail slot....lol Sure thing, let me know if you have any available and how much you'll need for shipping. Thank you very much for responding.

Can I grow this as a houseplant and how?
@PlantzNThings3 жыл бұрын
You can grow it indoors if you have a spot with bright light. Just keep in mind that these naturally have a dormancy... you need to keep them dry for that time.
@nickspraguencttech7 жыл бұрын
Can you explain why its turning into a tree instead of the flower?
@PlantzNThings7 жыл бұрын
+Winter_Kills the bulb didn't have the energy stored it needed to produce a bloom... a mature plant normally doesn't bloom every year... it also depends on the variety... many growers have multiple mature bulbs to get an annual show of flowers
@nickspraguencttech7 жыл бұрын
PlantzNThings thanks fam!! I have two of them planted (A.Konjac) that I bought online, I wasn't sure why it turned into a tree instead of a smelly flower.
