This is my first time watching, reacting, and reviewing season 1 episode 15 of AMPHIBIA "A Night at the Inn / Wally and Anne" I hope you enjoy it!
SYNOPSIS
Amphibia chronicles the adventures of 13-year-old Anne Boonchuy, who is magically transported to the fantastical world of Amphibia, a rural marshland full of frog-people. There, she meets an excitable young frog named Sprig Plantar, his unpredictable sister Polly and overprotective grandpa Hop Pop.

Maybe this is me (I really need a break from that content) but when ever I watch that inn episode, I am always reminded of Texas chainsaw massacre (a family of murderous cannibals like the Sawyer or Hewitt family) and psycho (the characters going to stay somewhere during a dark and stormy night like the Bates motel).

I think it’s funny how… open this show is with cannibalism and it’s also completely within lore because there are frog species that do that in nature.

I really like that in "Amphibia" nearly everyone including side characters like Wally has some hidden depths. No one here is plane and simple, especially main characters.

When someone talks smack about the first season, they forget about it still establishes depth for even the side characters. It's like getting to know all the folks of a small country town like Wartwood. It helps us feel like we're a part of the town alongside Anne.

Ah Wally and Anne probably one of my personal favorite episodes and one of the best of the season. One-eyed Wally is in my opinion, of the best side characters on tv ever. His design is great, he's so delightfully charming, he provides some excellent life advice, and James Patrick Stuart nailed his performance as him.

Same here! I enjoyed episodes before it, but this was the one I had to message a friend about immediately after watching because it hit all the right notes, and I had a need to discuss Wally (mostly how high he shot up in my favorite character list). JPS did an amazing job, for sure.

Polly was so BADASS in the first episode, that was awesome 😍. Anne and Wally was a very gentle episode 😊those who were so adorable❤️❤️❤️

Honestly for some reason I had it in my head Night at the in was a season 2 episode, maybe because I forgot how it opens. I really like the character interactions and development in Wally and Anne. Also with out any spoilers I'll say 1 thing in these episodes is a pretty massive plot point later down the line. Won't say what to not spoil things, but its really cool that they set it up all the way back here.

Ah yes, the episode where Anne canonically kills people lol I like these set of episodes, the Wally, Anne, friendship was very wholesome. Two of my favorite episodes from season 1, easily.

Yeah this set really showed what this show can do: they're funny, creepy, mysterious, heartwarming, thoughtful, and all that in 2 10 minute episodes. I love how Wally is written, because the things Anne says about him are things we'd probably all think, so his wisdom to her was just as much a surprise for us as for her. A great unassuming character, with a lot more going for him than you'd guess by his first appearance, which really goes for the whole show. Also the moss man is just gorgeous for such a simple design, like you said they did a great job with the lighting, music and everything to set the mood. It can be hard to make a creature like that feel special and magical in a world with so many bizarre creatures.

The first episode makes me more uncomfortable than I can possibly say, even moreso than it would for the average person... The second episode... I don't understand why the Plantars are so skeptical of Anne. Like, think about it. She never heard of the "moss man", she didn't know it was a mythical creature, she didn't know their was any stories about it. She was just describing what she saw, without any prior knowledge to influence her sighting. This should make them consider it. Like what are the odds she sees something that perfectly matches the description of something that isn't supposed to exist? If anything, her sighting just makes it more credible, but they laugh at her for it.

I think the reason for that is: most of the time people typically don't believe the words of the beholder, because the people don't have or don't see any visual evidence to a person's claim. And considering how much bulls**t came from you-know-who's mouth, I think you get my point.

@@MasonJWMyers Yeah, but if I knew of a local urban legend, with very specific details (for example, a walking tree with red eyes) and then somebody came from another country and never heard this story at all. If that person then came to me and said "I just seen a walking tree with red eyes!", I'd be like "Hang on, what? There's a story about one of those and now you just happen to see that exact thing even though you never heard the story?". I would at least know they weren't crazy, or making it up. That is enough evidence to know they at least seen *something* that resembles what they described.

Those frogs who ran the inn were most likely South American horned frogs. Also known as Pacman frogs, they'll eat any creature they can fit down their throats, including other frogs!

I remember running around with salt trying to douse toads with it… they supposedly explode when salt’s applied. Would the same happen to frogs? So does a salt and vinegar mixture explode frogs… we can only hope…lol
