My only problem with Amplitube 5 is that the Equalizers aren't that great - in my opinion. I've worked with both Amplitube 4 and 5 and prefer 4 because the way they incorporated MixBox (something I did NOT like) into it made it worse. I also have Guitar Rig 5 and 6. I prefer 5 to 6. In GR5, the amps look like the real world counterparts and are more responsive for me. GR6 just seems to convoluted. There are so many amp sims out there - and many are for free. Free amp sims sometimes blow away the models in both Guitar Rig and Amplitube. Overloud TH-U is another good paid one.

I've found Guitar Rig's models to be more than satisfactory at representing the amps that its models were said to emulate, even when one can concede that Amplitube's or BIAS FX2 or TH-U's are more on point and accurate. Heck, I'd say that the GR's Gratifier is the best mimic of the Mesa Rectifier amps with its 4 channels and the flubby tone that often needs to be tightened up with a Tube Screamer or high pass filter before the amp. The real strength and beauty of Guitar Rig isn't in how close its dials mimic the tone of the actual amp it models, but in how with its suite of effects and parameter modifiers one can be far more creative and original with tone sculpting/shaping with Guitar Rig than you could dream of being compared to the IK, PG, and OL alternatives. If you want a modeler that gets closer to the amps being modeled in terms of the dial behavior and resulting tone, then those alternatives are the better choice. If being able to create original tones in the most flexible way is what you're after, then the only other platform with those facilities to which Guitar Rig comes close is the Axe FX II and up and FM series from Fractal.

@@LeoGibsonGtr I think overall Guitar Rig 6 is more a terrible downgrade from Guitar Rig 5. For all the ICM modelling, newly added effects and improved IR tech they put on GR6, they ditched the traditional MIDI controller assignments that were very useful along with what meager MIDI controller preset switching GR5 had. And no, the new Macros and the Container provide a workaround to parameter assignment to MIDI controllers, but is not the same thing and from a user operation is less direct and more convoluted.by adding another component layer to mess with. GR5's MIDI controller management wasn't very elegant, especially when I have to set min/max parameter ranges to toggle between that need to be precise (like switching sync'd delay time or modulation rate from 1/4 to dotted eighth), and what I gotta work with are tiny incremental bars so that I have to first approximate the position, toggle the control then check the component control position for the actual value, and then work my way towards the precise position. As tedious and cumbersome as that is, I'd still prefer having it along with GR5 allowing controller assignments over a menu besides the Learn function. I'd take these over the nothing that we have from GR6.

Hello Leo. Another great video, congratulations !! Since 2015 I try to test all plugins available on the market. Neural DSP and STL Tones have fantastic products when it comes to modulation of amplifiers. Positive Grid raised the bar with its Bias Amp and Bias FX. Native Instruments with Guitar Rig 5 was my starting point. When I discovered Amplitube 4 everything came together for me. The graphic interface, the packages of well-known brands, the pedals and the organization of the signal chain were all that I needed to go deeper technically in this field. Currently I tested Guitar Rig 6 and I really liked what I heard and saw. I did the same thing with the Amplitube 5 and noticed a considerable upgrade in every way. In short, we have great options today in this field and there is no more excuse to go without playing your instrument at home! Big hug and continue with your work, because it helps a lot of people who, like me, are passionate about guitar and technology. Cheers from Brazil

@LeoGibsonGtr2 жыл бұрын
Hi, for home recording, plugins are so much easier, and you can get very good tones. Of course you have to buy a very good audio interface with a god HiZ preamp and good converters not to loose your guitar tone...on the other hand I have already the amps, the cabs and the mics in place and ready to be used...therefore I like to use them. On the other hand, for live use, amp modelling pedalboard are (in my opinion) almost unbeatable, in terms of easiness, reliability and consistency of the tone. Hi Leo, again awesome content! Was just wondering if youve ever observed the dynamics of the sound coming out of your headphone or speakers? To clarify not the dynamic response of the amp but the dynamics of the sound produced by the software? I notice that with amplitube the silent notes can be perceived as quite and ergo same with the loud notes. With other plugins its sounds compressed. Soft and loud notes sound the same. Hope this makes sense.

@@LeoGibsonGtr By the way the owner of fractal has already pointed out that using the same IR and the way you are loading the amp which is not a typical 800 produces treble resonances that are not really there and so differs a lot vs what the virtual amp models feed the "same IR". So as the IRs are pretty much reverse eq description of a space-signal interaction, well you are pretty much forcing a different result. Too long too read, it ain't the same, it shouldn't match the same, it doesn't sound the same but only the fact that you can match them is good enough to be honest. However IRs, can be (for my taste) a) too unpredictable at times, not the easy way out b) already containing too much room information and that is a shitty way to try to cut in a band mix where you are actually spitting out that exact sound again in another room...hello phase cancelling and hollowing sound from destructive interference of soundwaves. Better used closed up miced ones.... c) A way to try to homogenize stuff. For me that is bad for music. Takes away the possibility of stumbling on something unique and getting to bond with an amp/cab etc, extracting what it has to give in a specific setting...Slap an IR and you are already pre-applying a lot of eq...For some it makes things faster, so productivess and I can't disagree with that. And when you nail it, IR ing it makes you preserve the sound sure...however, it's like fuck exploration and inspiration through gear lol. Anyways good job.

Joe Satriani's latest album Elephants of Mars was recorded with amp sims (SansAmp specifically). Just sayin'. I will say that I'd generally prefer to play through a "real" amp, but modern sim stuff opens up the possibility of being able to use and experiment with equipment that would literally cost hundreds of thousands of dollars if you owned physical versions of it all. We're spoiled for choice these days, which can be good and bad sometimes, but even in the studios, amp and effect sims are firmly entrenched as a ligitmate option during production so they're not going anywhere anytime soon. Of course neither will real amps be completely replaced by them either anytime soon. Cheers.
