Kudos to you sir you did it again. Making astute analysis with common sense.I too have airbrushed on and off for decades and still to this day honestly it’s a pain in many ways. It’s almost like it hinders you from achieving a simple thing - a nice paint job. With the adjusting, resetting, changing needles , tips this or that cleaning on and on. And I’ve used them all from cheap to ultra expensive- there still the same in most ways.But it’s just a tool and not the be- all of creativity. I hope people realize it’s your mind and hand that are the ultimate tool . You have made your comments very honestly. Why would anyone want to fight and struggle with a hobby? Do I need another airbrush ? No. But this one looks fun- and that’s a huge part of my hobby- having fun. I hope you keep having fun with your hobby.

This is very effective reviewing, once again quite a deep dive to give clear detail on specifically how this airbrush innovates to make airbrushing easier in very practical ways, but it really doesn't feel like a deep dive. Like the laser cutter it's another high spend item, so to get the point across well enough that more folks will be moved to buy one and thus improve a key part of their hobby experience takes this sort of considered vid quality and I forsee a lot more stuff showing up to be reviewed Great work, gold star

It’s only the brush that comes in the box. With 0.45 needle of course. As for chrome, at Gaaheris price point I can’t see it really being chrome. Chrome plating is every expensive. It may look chrome but I’d guess it’ll be a similar plating that will crack and peel off over time.

Hmm, good question. I’m not a fan of cheap anything tbh as they often break quickly, don’t create enough pressure or are just inferior. Plus, you aren’t a beginner for very long so you’ll end up buying a new one meaning you’ll spend twice. My advice. Buy a good one and learn well. I found Sparmax to be a good shout. As long as it has a tank that refills while you’re spraying you should be good. It’ll look like two tanks on top of each other.

I only pull out the infinity when I want to do fine detail, although it could do everything I feel less nervous doing something dumb with the Ultra. I am actually tempted to try the new one, just because it is a neat design.

So i've been looking at airbrushes compressors etc. WHat isn't explained on any shop website or anywhere is how do i know whcih fitting or hose from the compressors will fit an airbrush? Are there different fittings? some compressor come with hoses so how would i know which hose will fit when most shops dont actually say which fitting the brushes use. Basically trying to find out exactly what to buy and whats compatible is a bit of a mystery for a uk shopper. I was looking at this brush with a sparmax compressor with a air tank. Actually the one in your link. What hose would i need to make these work together? cheers
@thestateofplay20235 ай бұрын
If the compressor comes with a hose it’ll fit the compressor. For the brush you’ll need to check with the brand. You can’t help with cheaper brands as they could use almost anything but 1/8″BSP is the most common thread size in the airbrush world, which includes many Brands like Harder & Steenbeck, Iwata and Sparmax . Airbrush Brands like Aerograph, Aztek, Badger, Paasche have unique threads and often need connectors or adaptors to attach to hoses.

I've been waiting for this to come to the US because their demo video alone made it sound amazing. So glad to hear a real life miniature painter also liked it. I'm curious though why they haven't partnered with any of the other big miniature painters to come out with limited editions of this. Seems like they all re-upped on new Evolutions and Infinity's. I wonder what features those airbrushes still have that make them better as well as more expensive.
@thestateofplay2023 Жыл бұрын
There was a Squidmar Ultra on the site for a while. The link is still there but now links to the Evolution. Personally I don’t buy the mini painter branded ones as I don’t want to pay extra for a logo or for functionality designed by them - that works for them, and not me. 🤣

@@thestateofplay2023 This one was actually reasonably priced tbh. I totally get why folks don’t grab the branded ones, but even just for the aesthetic, this one was only $9 more and it’s beautiful lol. I’m new to the hobby myself and this will be my first airbrush I’ve owned. I’ve used friends’ airbrushes before but haven’t had the time to just sit down with one of my own and learn it. I have an airbrush and compressor that i bought off amazon but only really use it for priming. i have the super crappy airbrush that came with it (fengda??) so its not up to much more than that. i was looking to upgrade to a better airbrush that i an actually learn and use properly. I was looking for something in the £100-£150 range like a Patriot-105 or Iwata Eclipse, however I saw a H&S Infinity CRplus (the 2 in 1 needle bundle) on sale for only £20 more than an Eclipse. But then saw the Ultra 2024 for less than half the price of that! This vid has put me in a real quandary, whether to have a blow out and buy the Infinity, an "investment for the future" or save a lot of money and get an airbrush that is designed to teach people how to use one!
@thestateofplay20236 ай бұрын
If it helps, I’ve been airbrushing for about 16 years and have an infinity, evolution and Ultra 2024. I know what I’m doing but still find myself reaching for the Ultra because it’s just simple all round. I’m not gonna lie, it has its quirks, the trigger can be temperamental and it need an inline Mac valve for easier pressure reduction (you can do that on the compressor but I’m lazy). But being able to turn that collar, play with pressure and just spray without worrying makes things much quicker. And it cleans much quicker.
@ChimaeraTom6 ай бұрын
@@thestateofplay2023 my Ultra arrived today. It's a beautiful bit of kit. I used it straight out of the box as H&S recommended. However I found very quickly the nozzle/needle guard needed unscrewing and re-tightening. On the first test spray it backwashed the paint out of the cup and went everywhere!! I encountered the same problem with the trigger but that was because some paint managed to get back there somehow. I had to strip it down and clean the whole thing but it worked like a charm after that. I'll chalk it up to user error. What impressed me is how thin you can get lines with it, thinner than a pen line. And that's with a 0.45mm needle. I'll definitely be investing in an inline controller as I too am lazy.
@thestateofplay20236 ай бұрын
Yeah I never understood why they say use it out the box. Almost everyone I spoke to had to strip and clean it after. Maybe that’s why. To force everyone to strip and clean….🤣🤣

If you don’t have a way to regulate pressure on the airbrush I’d probably drop PSI to around 20-25. You’ll just need to be more precise about your paint thinning.

Great review! Still waiting for mine to arrive and I'm super excited to enter the airbrush world with such an amazing beginner friendly tool. One thing I would have liked to see in the video is how to do the bubbleback method with that kind of nozzle. I'm a little afraid to block the airflow with just my hand, I wouldn't want to accidentally touch the needle tip and damage it, is there any clever thing you can use?
@thestateofplay2023 Жыл бұрын
You can block the whole end with a pen top. However I don’t recommend blowback. I know loads of people do it but it pushes paint the wrong way in your airbrush. Giving rise to harder cleaning and more problems with internal seals down the line. That’s the bit creators never tell you. Because they can just get a new airbrush. Usually for free. 👍🏼

With the rise of budget airbrush brands I've been wondering how the high end brands will stay relevant for modeling/minis where maximum precision isn't necessarily required. It seems like this is H&S's answer, and qute a good one. Lots of genuinely useful features and a competitive price point.

Actually I’d recommend buying from a company that sells airbrushes. That way if something goes wrong you can get help. Amazon won’t help a jot. I wish this airbrush had been available when I started learning a couple years back. I bought the older version of the Ultra, with a much too small for noobs 0.15 needle. I fought through way too many clogs and issues along the way and eventually bought a more expensive airbrush before learning that the needle size was my main issue. I wouldn't have needed to buy a more expensive Infinity to deal with my crappy trigger control and would have probably used it a lot more since it wouldn't have been so frustrating.

Yeah that smaller needle thing got me frustrated. I’d just got my paint where I wanted and then had to learn to thin again for a 0.15. 🤣 Good learning exercise though.
