To us obviously they’re not poor by any means but to people who can buy an Hermès bag or Chanel tweed set they’re nothing. A couple or few hundred grand a year is nothing to those people. It’s like that one scene in the Crazy Rich Asians book where the girls are like “You can’t marry him, he ONLY makes 800k a year!”

Rufus is a retired musician and owns an art gallery, as you said; besides being able to afford The Poverty Loft which was actually a huge apartment in Brooklyn. The thing is, the Humphreys are well off for sure, they’re not struggling financially. They’re just not as rich as the Old Money megarich Upper East Siders, so the others think they’re poor. We gotta remember that most of the characters in this show are so rich they don’t even *know* what real poverty looks like.

Vanessa's struggle arc reminds me so much of Kat Graham's character on Vampire Diaries. Like did the writers and producers just hate Jessica Szohr but just keep her around to add a little 'color' to the cast?? I remember watching GG as a kid and HATING Vanessa but also thinking she was beautiful and that her path at NYU and after was really cool, but she came off so desperate and obsessed which feels like such a waste.

Same experience. I kept waiting for the writers to realize what potential Vanessa had and DO ANYTHING and they just… flopped. She was maybe the only character who actually came from a different environment (miss me with the poverty loft, Humphreys) because her parents hold the polar opposite values compared to everyone else on the show. She was so beautiful and could have been so cool. But no. She just had to be the most annoying part of every single plotline she was in, and an afterthought in any arc that actually mattered.

I've now rewatched this video three times and: - it's insane that Blair flopped at NYU. That the students chose to side with Georgina and Dan instead of Blair???? - Scott secret son drama was so boring and i'm happy that it was dropped with quickness and haste after the wedding - Chuck's mother gate was also boring and stupid - Jenny's medicinal cashier era was iconic - only GG could have LADY GAGA performing in the background - Dinner episode with Watcha say was so good, one of my favorite episodes in the series - really wanted more of the newly rich Dan (and Rufus and Jenny) drama because he used to be sooo "poor people are Real, fuck the rich" with Vanessa - Serena's dad drama was.... loved it but the aftermath was insane. Like what do you mean your dad gave your mom fake cancer and you're still on his side, like everyone just brushes it off so quickly - the fact that Chuck and Jenny were the ones to sleuth on the fake cancer was nice and made sense but then --> - Jenny losing her v card to Chuck.... criminal. aren't they like, almost, basically somehow step siblings? Lily adopted Chuck, so has she adopted Jenny now? this is sooo messy - Gossip Girl was so much in the sidelines this season.... like I guess I can see why (because spoilers) and ig it proves that the group doesn't need GG to create drama but I really, really missed how big impact GG had - this season really proved that Nate can in fact rich people scheme (with his family with Trip's campaign) and is not fully "f my rich politically scheming family" he's a Van der Bilt!!
