The quest overall was very good. My only complaints are they they did not go deep enough into explaining some things (which is pretty common in all the quests). But I hope they go deeper into some of it in future updates.

@@reap06 likely because the war was a short one... it was more of a conflict, we had 1 fleet fight that might qualify as a battle and what was effectively an assassination of Ballas in a "war"; a war the other factions just called it quits on after the fleet failed... granted we may be getting more.... but that will be judged when its here. it was a good quest and i enjoyed having to pseudo stealth through as the drifter but as a war its lacking, and post quest its just a reskin faction til we get more Archons.... save for post quest i dont have many complaints; it was 6 hours and released in a functioning state on consoles and fixed any issues i saw for PC before they went on holiday this time... before release its all i cared to ask for. post release though i miss my drifter abilities and my operator bow

@@ShishouDzukiZaManako I think they needed to have us lose the war for the drifter plot to get introduced, but I agree that the "war" part of the quest should have been a bit longer. Personally I would have been happy with a cinematic of the sentients and their fleet invading, and a cinematic or segment showing the factions agreeing to team up, because I thought they threw you into that plot a little too fast. But other than that I don't mind that the actual war part was short because the narrative was about lotus and ballas, and the drifter stuff.

loved the quest but i didn't feel like it lived up to expectations. previous trailers showed and foreshadowed a big encounter with the lotus and all we get is a simple fight with ballas and the whole 'war' aspect felt very condensed and not impactful at all. also really disliked what happened to teshin and erra. felt very rushed and the tenno don't really care about what happened to them.

Fight with the Lotus would be not only the peak of emotional stakes (as shown in the CGI trailer), but also the peak of the stakes in general, considering that would be the fight with the actual sentient threat.

I really wish there was more to TNW's after story than just a few new bounties. It really makes the game feel like nothing mattered in the story. With The Second Dream we earned an entire set of secondary mechanics, a whole new world of customization, and a vastly different system to farm. Here we kinda just got some cosmetics and thats really it. One of them in not even using because it currently invalidates a bunch of my old cosmetics, and just looks worst in every way for male operators. I dont wanna say its disappointing, the story content was good. But it feels like there was no war, and we've been building up to nothing for nothing.

The quest started out fun but I got frustrated with the amount of clunk that kept happening. I remember in the Teshin section where you have to find something before the timer ends, there were so many lens flares and visual effects that I had to redo it multiple times. The stealth section felt very inconsistent and I couldn't help but think that if they werent going to fully flesh it out they shouldn't have bothered. As time went on it feltlike the game was just wasting my time- the ballas fight had us doing the same shit over and over again. By the end I was glad to be able to just go back to real warframe.

This feels like an exceedingly subjective take, which is fine, but it doesn't fully make for solid grounds for critique. I had no issues following around the timed energy nodes, it showed a massive trail to the next one every time. I had no issues at all in terms of stealth consistency. You stand in front of Deacon, it gets alerted, that's all that was happening. The final fight was not supposed to be about the mechanics. It was about the depiction of abuse, and it was clear that mechanics were kept minimal to avoid drawing focus away from it. Because of that, the fight took me back to the experiences I had in my own childhood, feeling almost exactly the same. The quest certainly lacks a big boss fight for your fully geared warframe, but I would personally put that before the end of Act 1.

@@ayushdeshmukh284 I agree with Lily the Ballas fight has no indication of what needs to be done you spend the first half redirecting beams so when the lotus gets hit with it you try to jump in front of it and get knock out of your warframe so you try with your operator and the lotus dies. Try to shoot Ballas but dont shoot him in the head like I did or it wont damage him gotta shoot him in the dick to get the damage to proc. Then you stand there and get continuously knocked down for something that could of just been a cutscene. Just to listen to some cringe writing they are not dating hes just projecting someone on to her and shes acting like her for some weird reason. The Deacons have weird line of sight problems like the one where you have to walk on the pipe if walk to either the left or right of it its acts as if it can see you which made me thing I had find another way until i got tired and yoloed it and saw that its ok to be on the pipe just not next to it at the same hight in clear view. I also got to listen to a friend go from oh shit thes guys are pretty fun to play to Dac is not that fun to OH MY FUCKING GOD JUST GIVE ME MY WAR FRAME I WOULD RATHER FARM THEN DO THIS. I have no way to in good fath tell my friends to play the mission because they might not come back to it.

I feel like DE blew their load too early at tennocon. we were shown the coolest parts of the quests long before release day and when we did get our hands on it we realized that Karl, Veso and Teshin were only slightly longer than what we already saw. The story feels like its all over the place with the obvious mashup of The Duviri Paradox shoved in. The worst part is that as soon as the quest is over the game just spits you back to the main menu where everything is pretty much the same it was before the new war. It's weird that DE hyped it so much and kept claiming it'd change everything, when really all it did was bring Lotus cosmetics and 2 bounties. I'm thankful for the effort they put into it, but I have over 2k hours.. I'm desperate for things to do in warframe, and I know many of you know how painful it was to find out there was no post-war content. It was just as painful to realize that an update named "Echoes of war" doesn't actually have anything to do with post-war stuff and its mostly just cosmetics... back to taking a break from WF I guess.

I felt incredibly dissatisfied after playing the new war. I think the thing that bothered me most is that the very first mission feels like it picks up more than halfway through the actual "story". And on top of that, the fact that they gated access to the entire quest behind the necramechs is just idiotic. The quest barely even justifies needing it, and you use it for such a short amount of time that it feels like you barely even have time to use it before it's gone again. They very, very easily could have written in an alternative, like getting help from one of the other FOUR playable characters

I think its perfectly justified to demand the completion of early content to reach late game content. All games do that, it's just a way of progression. The Necramechs were never supposed to be important mechanically, especially given the fact that they were not even supposed to be in the original quest. But having one is basically a prerequisite for having at least a minimal amount of involvement with open worlds, a core part of the game.

Pro Tip: You can brag about it even if you haven't done it cause the game doesn't keep track of it at all. And it isn't as if you would go out of your way to take photos of you completing the secondary object if you aren't a streamer.

The New War was good, but I get the impression that the quest suffered from way too many rewrites. It just kind of feels all over the place. All the pieces are great, but none of them really fit together. Kind of like Warframe in microcosm, actually.

To me it felt like a highlight reel of what would have been, in an ideal world with enough resources to match the quest’s ambition, an entirely new game. If WF were running on a traditional game dev cycle, act 1 and part of act 2 of The New War would have been the opening missions of Warframe 3, with act 3 acting as main quest missions waaaay further down the line after you as the player starts to make your way through the Star Chart again. But because WF doesn’t follow that model and DE didn’t want to lock players out of their equipment because plot, they had to essentially tell a story which takes a 9-season anime arc in the runtime of an OVA. Of course, quality and continuity are going to suffer as a result

The New War was the epitome of Warframe, dripping with style and cool factor and completely lacking in substance yeah there's some cool stuff (specially with the drifter in my opinion) but everything else? it felt like a rushed and convoluted mess. I took a break from warframe for a couple of months and when I saw that new war was coming up was a bit exited to see it, and even after tempering my expectations, I was kinda disappointed when I finished the quest, it felt like "uh... that was it?" a shame really I still like Waframe thou but after the mess that was Railjack launch it feels like it's never going to recuperate in my eyes.

I just found the whole thing cringe and lame the first two missions were fun, but I spent most my time yelling at my monitor because I was either fed up with the cringe or got caught by a during the stealth mission. Then I got to hear my friend do the same I dont think its good because I cant conceive of a person that would be ok with doing it again. Also Railjack missons are still broke you cant go back to the dojo in a group or it gets stuck and you have to quit of the game. Could be fun but that stops the fun in its tracks.

Rj isn't for everyone but the quest is extremely low level friendly, if you can play it but just don't have ranked necra or rj don't worry your base things should be more than capable.

if you have a clan with full research, there should be a railjack research thing. buy the default set of components (the ones you have already) but at tier III. level up your necramech to level 30 and level up the necramech health mod if you have it. that should be enough for the quest!

really wish we actually showed up on the plains of eidolon like in the trailer, I hate to be THAT guy but I really would've loved to see an endgame-style scene where we just have a giant ass battle at some point. Quest was not bad but some things really need fleshing out. Spoilers Below Erra should've had his own gameplay scenes where he's on Cetus capturing people and using the Veils or something, there really should've been cutscenes of Erra conteplating what he's doing and why to justify why he rebelled against Narmer in the end. I'm also confused on how my *Necramech* broke down just randomly even after wiping the floor with the sentients. Excalibur Umbra taking a backseat in the war is kind of a nitpick but I think it would've added a lot. Quest is already over but these are just some fun thoughts I had.

I personally didn't really care for the quest. The only part I really liked was when it ended and I got to go back to playing Warframe lol. I didn't like playing as other factions, teshin just felt like a weak Warframe without bullet jump. Drifter sneaking was irritating, the drifter boss fights with the bow actually wasn't bad. I did like the whole scene with the ship before and after it jumped into and got lost in the void. Ballast fight was very underwhelming. The man in the wall showing up at the very end was awesome tho.

Just played it yesterday. Bad from the get go for me. I’m not sure if everyone else just got it or went along with it or maybe I missed something somewhere but I’m pretty sure Ballas was on a leash last time I saw him. Why the hell was he the main baddy. And from there I was just nit picky the whole way through. Just before I started I saw someone in region describe it as the “galaxy’s worst breakup” and that was how it felt after finishing it. 3/10 not really worth the wait

New players (or people outside the Warframe community entirely) won't click on a review video of a story they don't care, but this video also isn't a "hey it's been some time now, I'll discuss everything because you should have played it already" kind of review either. It would be a shame if we don't get more quests using them, since that was my favorite part of the New War. It would add a lot of variety to Warframe to be able to use them for new mission types in the post-quest world.

Why do I feel like the drifter was just an excuse to give us a grownup operator. Like it didn’t feel necessary. It’s cool, but the story would still play out the same way with the regular operator. Heck it may have made more sense because the Drifter is just a regular dude with no powers who fights while squads of sentients and two archons. Yeah they have good weapons but they’re still just human. At least the operator has void powers so it would have made a bit more sense. And again, the drifter’s motivations to heal the lotus makes no sense because they technically shouldn’t even know her. They never met. Why does the drifter care? Plus… how did the switch happen? Was time travel involved? If not then how is the drifter not dead from old age because the game takes place hundreds of years after the Zariman incident.

when i realized the aya event was the same tired old bounties for TWO MONTHS STRAIGHT, i stopped playing not touching the game until actual gameplay content comes out (not a quest) i don't care about a fking quest so ya, not installing update, not playing new war, not touching the game until there's some new gameplay modes or something actual content to repeatedly play/farm the last legit content we got was sisters of parvos btw i have like 5k hours in warframe

It would of been fun if they did faction quest lines because the first two mission are fun like a big build up to and through the war. Me and a friend have a joke about Veso the I.T chad. Would of loved more time with them and you an actual war. Everything else was just cringe like Ballas wearing a leash and collar then being depicted as a narcissist's or the whole steal power through kissing that came out of nowhere.

Overall it's a great experience, not that i hate it but simply not satisfied, there nothing new on excalibur umbra, all the new abilities that drifter has is gone and replaced with operator ability, and after the quest ended, other than lotus, there isn't any additional NPC dialogue, it's almost nothing has change or mean anything (only new dialogue is where you do narmer bounties but still), even the optional objective of saving the people of cetus does nothing.

they absolutely missed the opportunity to not kill tenshin and have some post war voicelines in the relay/steel path, and have unique cetus voicelines if you saved them all. teshin especially had an undeserved death. hes not fleshed out enough as a character for his death to mean much and it couldve been a lot better

Gods I hated this quest. I can never fault the story of Warframe, but the gameplay connected to the quests is absolutely atrocious in my opinion. Every quest I do makes me want to stop doing quests. I realize I'm probably in the minority, everyone I've talked to enjoys playing as Not A Warframe. I do not, and that's true throughout the whole game. I do not like archwing, I have a necramech ive never used and that showed during this quest having no access to any of the mech abilities except 1, my warframes and weapons are just better, railjack's pilot controls are so bad I will never play pilot in one ever again. Teshin was OK, still not anything I cared for much. This is a looter shooter, not a stealth game. I hated the sneaky part on Fortuna. The final fight with Lotus and Ballas was a gimmick fight. I never understood exactly what it was you're supposed to do when lasering Lotus. I really, really hope DE no longer makes us be Not A Warframe in the game Warframe. I understand that DE wants to give players other ways to play their game so people don't choose to go play another game instead, but seriously, if I wanted to play a stealth game, I'd go play a game with mechanics designed around that. I've spent hundreds of hours working on making my weapons and warframes powerful, do not separate me from that hard earned power again. The other big thing for me is now I have to go watch a bunch of videos to get the story because I spent the whole quest as a squishy character or another desperately trying to speed through the whole thing to get back into a frame, and trying not to die while story happens on the side of the screen. Please give me big cut scenes followed by gameplay without story exposition going on.

de cant write a good story, none of the characters were consistent and lets not even talk about the narrative cop out that "externalism" is. the set pieces are nice, and playing as another character is a fun gimmick, but the stealth sections are cancer and the boreal fights are annoying. someone said there were re-writes and that makes a lot of sense because the world building of warframe is stellar but the new war does not occupy that world building well (exception to the parts where you play as kahl and veso those are great)

I'll be honest I don't like the new versions of the open worlds and cities attached to them, it's way too cluttered and OV especially looks really sad compared to it's old pristine snow appearance.

Its was just ok. Nothing ground breaking or anything. Worth doing but not going to bring you back into the game hardcore as there really isnt anything different with the game after it. If you are mad into the lore play it. If not, meh. Also went back to my operator after using the drifter for a bit after.

They're still relying on Steve's amateur writing. He said he had to rewrite it several times and it shows. I hope they put money into some good writers next time.. so much time and effort wasted on a barely cohesive story. Only those who read/watch lore stuff might understand but even then the story is still just so messy.

The quest overall was quite good, but DE shot themselves in the foot thanks to how poorly it was marketed. I'm not saying that the cinematics and trailer were bad, but rather the final product was far from what the marketing led people to believe- that a full blown war was coming. DE unfortunately forgot to highlight how "The New War" overall would be split into chapters- this being part One. Considering all the potential new mechanics teased in the quest, people being aware ahead of release that some of the content they saw would be implemented into the game over time instead of right after the quest, would have eased the blow of certain post-quest issues.

The quest was "alright" It looked, sounded and played amazing. It was longer and more innovative than any quest before it and that made it a lot more enjoyable. For the first half that is. The story was bad though, straight up bad. There was no context given, it was rushed and there was no pay off for doing all this. Sorry, but I didn't enjoy it. Edit: With "context" I mean motivation and reason. How the hell did Ballas get from slave in one scene to being the overlord of the sentients in the next? I know its possible because Ballas was a maniacle manipulator but nothing like that had been shown to us. The story expects you to not think about these illogical rushed parts and wants you to fill in the blanks yourself to get to the next scene. That's why I hated it, not because the story in its entirety but just because it was so rushed and underdeveloped in the ending The scene with Hunhow and the stalker was cool though, chills all over me

@@cuppacoffee1572 I get both of your arguments, bcuz the pacing was all over the place and it felt more like "Oh no, X happened while we did Y but we cant talk about the consequences of X right now bcuz we gotta get to story point Z fast". character motivations were often glossed over or needed to be fleshed out more. But the parts that we did get were amazing IMO, you just gotta fill in the gaps with context from the game and have your own headcanon. I know some people dont like these kinds of stories, but as someone whos had experiences with abusive families and worked with orphans, the last part of the story hit way too hard for me man

are you a special case, it was extremely obvious that they did that to manipulate Natah/ Lotus into valling the fleet, as the moment she is through the portal, Erra lets Ballas go. Ballas was always pulling the strings since the getgo, as HE is the one that rebuilt Erra

Any word on an easy mode in future? Not really interested in playing "a new game" inside Warframe. I play Warframe for Warframe, I will play some other game if I want to play another game or DE can release "a new game" in the same universe and I will play that if it grabs my interest. I would like an easy mode to just get the quest over and done so I can go back to playing Warframe in Warframe again.

Thats kind of on you isnt it? If you're MR27 you should be able to get a necramech fairly quickly, and they said with plenty of time in advance that you would need one for the quest.

Once I got past the teshin part I enjoyed it. I almost quit because of how teshin controlled with my keybinds. I loved all the drifter gameplay, because when I started warframe years ago I played basically only spy missions(properly). I miss that feeling, and I got it back with the drifter.

Honestly, I really don't get all the hate in the comments for The New War, I thought it was overall pretty good. Was it absolutely, mind-blowingly amazing? No, but by Warframe standards (which are not very high), I think it succeeded at what it set out to do, which was tell a cool, bombastic story. The pacing was definitely rushed, and there were some things that didn't really work (for example, I didn't even KNOW Teshin was flat-out dead until reading these comments), but overall, I thought it was pretty solid.
