I think there's an aspect of Hitman that doesn't get enough praise. Sure, it has great level design and freedom of play. But I never encounter a moment where I say "oh I can't believe that bullshit just happened (barring occasionally tossing something at someones feet instead of their head)" I don't know if its the predictable routines, or the awareness meter, or some level of forgiveness programmed in. When I get caught I always think "I can't believe *I* walked right into that guy" not "I can't believe *that* guy saw me". It gives a sense of fairness to the game, you never feel like you're being cheated, that when something goes wrong, it was completely in your control. *You* forgot a patrol. *You* decided to risk the awareness meter reaching the cap. Its great.

I'm 99% with you. My only criticism is that glitch where you attempt to subdue someone from behind and the game throws you into the fisticuffs QTE. I think it has something to with either the game deciding that the NPC noticed you, or the NPC intending to turn around as you attack, and it's not something that happens often, but it does happen and I definitely say "I can't believe that bullshit just happened (again)."

There is so much small details in this game. You can find The Class’s guitarist in Miami. You can find Andrea Martina in the Auction in Paris. The camera crew in paris are also in Miami. If Dalia meets you at the auction, during her routine she will go into her bathroom to call Ezra Burg about how she had no idea who 47 is. If Silvio is held at gunpoint and or shot non-lethally, he will say something along the lines of:”This is like when Abiatti threw me down that well!” Marco Abiatti. The nurse in Whittleton creek last name is Lafayette. I think I remember a reference to haven island in Bangkok. Not sure where it is, though.

I actually consider Whittleton Creek as one of my favourite levels (along with the New York level which you mentioned but didn't analyse) because of the way that neighbourhood just acts as a mask to hide the crime happening within, for example the muffin lady seems innocent but as soon as you enter her basement it becomes more apparent that there's more then what the eye can see. I also like how every house works as a little miny level and is different to every house

And the one thing I love about this game as well is that even if you are someone who doesn't play Hitman or aren't too interested. A lot of the time, watching someone else play can still invoke that sense of, "Ok, this is just silly and makes no sense. I LOVE IT!" I actually have a few friends who love to watch me play Hitman when I do calls with them. Whenever I do elusive targets, escalations or just hop on to derp about with the levels, they just love how the game gives so much variety that they haven't gotten bored watching me play. And I also haven't lost my love for this game either, since I can always find a new challenge to do, do something silly or play a level I tend not to play too often. It's just a testament of how good this series is that you can enjoy it's wacky, but versatile nature. Whether you are a viewer, watching your friends or favorite content creator play the game. Or being the player yourself and finding all these different ways to make fun out of (in my mind) A sandbox that just never seems to lose it's charm. All I can hope is that people give this series a shot, cause we need more games like Hitman. A game that sets out to do one thing, be a fun experience that allows it's players to basically be the type of player they want to be. Serious, goofy, aggressive, passive. All are welcomed and allowed in a game like this.

It takes me several hours in a new map before I figure out how to use all the tools and possibilities. The pay off is amazing. I even got the season pass to support the company because I love everything they did in this game.
@RomanSnow5 жыл бұрын
It's likely someone has said this already, but you can make the targets in Mumbai meet. You can make Rangan meet with the Maelstrom, you can make the Maelstrom meet with Vanya, and you can make Vanya meet with Rangan. That I know of, you cannot make all three meet at once. It's also worth pointing out that you don't have to use the meticulous identification system to find the maelstrom. He always has the same face and voice, so he's easy to identify once you learn this. He can also be drawn out of hiding in several ways.
@domenicomarzolla30455 жыл бұрын
Plus, he is the only NPC to walk through a secluded area near an open sewer with a small bridge. There are a puddle and an extremely convenient electrical battery, you can simply wait for Maelstrom to show up, walk in the puddle, then you throw the battery at him and bang!, gone... everyone will rule it an accident. Or you can activate the flag on the hill, wait for him to arrive and then isolate himself in a room with a body container and deal with him as you see fit. The face recognition gimmick isn't even needed

Excellent video! I actually found Whittleton Creek to be a refreshing change of pace from the large maps. It had the most normal environment and the most down to earth opportunities and mission stories, involving just upper middle class people going about their daily lives, and Agent 47 screwing it all up for them. Agreed about Isle of Sgail, it's my favorite level across both the games. After I hit maximum mission mastery on that level, I showed up with a sniper rifle, took out both targets in under three minutes, and rode off without anyone knowing what happened. That feeling of just two shots two kills ghost mode is true Hitman.

I felt this way when I fist launched H2 but I can't imagine you ran into that prompt like myself since you've obviously played H1, I think the devs knew how good the intro to H1 is so they just forced people who hadn't already experienced it, to play it so they could properly learn the games mechanics.

What i love on hitman the most is.. even if you lose or something doesnt go as planned.. your not mad, you're actually a bit happy on the other side. You learn from previous mistakes and it all concludes to the badass ending that always makes you feel satisfied with your gameplay. Hitman encourages you to play multiple times.. and with everything there is to go through.. its hard not to. it is very likely an action goes wrong and a guard reports it. or you alert the target to a stun grenade.. it all links to the fact that as a hitman, you have to make compromises sometimes.. and even at moments like these you still end up winning with twice the satisfaction. Every hitman level has a unique way of killing your target, and its these unique ways that keep every level relevant till the end. Its hard not to stop killing your targets and rather admire the atmosphere, and if you overhear guard conversations that are linked to other levels, you just wanna keep digging. The easter eggs in hitman are so random and unique that its often hard to figure out whether its an easter egg or just a fun catch. There's a dolphin exit in miami, even a toy dinosaur exit on colorado, its these fun easter eggs that make you revisit the same map this time to just purely explore. The game makes sure even in failure to do the objective you get fun out of it, such as an achievement when you activate the kill switch nontheless.

Your explanation of Miami is part of why I loved it so much. You can literally assassinate the targets however you like and the game gives you a lot of freedom. My best run so far was Master difficulty, silent assassin suit only in which I shoved Robert Knox into Sierra's car. I basically climbed the building to do it.

Loved your takes on both games, really good work :) For my liking I thought that the simplicity of Whittleton Creek was quite nice in comparison to the other levels. The hustle and bustle of every other level with their huge crowds felt quite intimidating after the comparatively less dense levels of the first game (and indeed the tutorial level of the second game). I genuinely felt like the other levels were off-putting in some regards because they felt almost too big to tackle at points. Whereas Whittleton Creek felt like it was a small but complex puzzle where the various challenges were not always as straightforward as go to the place and do the thing, requiring more planning and forethought. Not that other levels weren’t also capable of that, but they had more crowds to blend into, therefore giving more options for surveillance and escape. Either way, really liked your take. Obviously my view is just one of many

One problem I had with the opening mission was I spent a while dicking about trying to set stuff up and the target just went to bed. 5 minutes or so after they get home if you don’t do anything they’ll go to sleep and I couldn’t find a way to wake them up, didn’t matter if I threw shit at them or made noise, so at that point I only had the boring option of taking them out while they were sleeping, didn’t exactly get me pumped to play the rest of the game, but I’m glad I did

So...this was actually well done. So much more in-depth than I was expecting and it actually made the video go by faster. By the time you reached Isle of Sgail (and yes it seems to be pronounced scale) I was kinda disappointed I wasn’t getting more lol. Furthermore, your analysis and gameplay showed me some things that I never tried or even knew about before, most notably on Mumbai (since I’ve played that mission the least). Awesome work and I can’t wait to see what you do for New York and Haven Island 🙂

I love Hawk's Bay. It's such a small, self contained level full of good assassination opportunities and the whole thing of preparing for a wave of guards and having to escape is very unique in my opinion. It's a hood break from the massive maps that you can't comprehend on your first 1-5 tries. It's a good test environment too for weapons or strategies. And your goal is very clear. The atmosphere is also inpeccable. I wish they would do more of these smaller scope levels that feel more manageable like in the older games. Now, I have to admit, Miami is impressive but your first time around with no weapons on your person and no alt starting spots or pickups the targets just run circles around you while you are trying to orientate yourself, get some gear and improvise.
@gilless4295 жыл бұрын
In Miami the Kronstadt security outfit is basically the Helmut Kruger. It allows you, I think, literally everywhere but the other teams' garages and upper paddocks. But on the other maps I agree, they've made it so the outfits aren't gonna cover everything. For example in Santa Fortuna, both elite guards and mansion guards are allowed in the coca fields along with the coca fields guards, but the mansion guards and coca guards can't go into the underground tunnels/submarine facility, and only the mansion guards can go in the mansion (aside from the other staff obviously, but I'm talking about guard outfits). In Mumbai, same, Dawood's guards aren't allowed in the Maelstrom's bunker or Shah's area, and the same goes for the two other ways around. Another life's full of individual private properties. The Isle of Sgail I can't talk about as well, I haven't played it as much.

Whittleton Creek's "house for sale" quest actually has a sort of dual purpose that manages to exploit the suburban monotony. In my first playthrough, I did this story first (it's prompted within spitting distance of the default spawn and is relatively easy to pull off). Then, as I showed Cassidy the house, I noticed an achievement is linked to showing him the entire house. All the accessible houses in the level have the same base layout. The story serves to familiarize the player with said layout, so that when you need some woman's microfilm projector (for example) you know exactly how to move from the front door to the cord that lets down the attic ladder. Essentially, this story mission is a tutorial for the level. It allows you to kill Cassidy with ease, it gives you intel up ahead for a freeform infiltration of Janus' house, and it makes your multiple counts of B&E to gather the clues easier.

So i played it on master instead for my first experience with it and it was one if the best games ive ever played. Figuring all the things out for myself was some of the most fun ive had. Theory crafting and building up skills to finally beat the levels. Such a great game.

Fun fact: The Mumbai Assassin storyline can be completed without ever changing out of your suit: every one of the opportunities can be started either by 47 disguising as the relevant role or by 47 giving the relevant person the object/intel they need before they will naturally start the opportunity. Combine that with the assassin's costume, and you can even take the shots AS THE ASSASSIN, earning your own way into the 3rd target's hideout.
@QemeH4 жыл бұрын
22:40 - There are possible ways to eliminate every possible pair of targets in Mumbai as well as an opportunity to kill all three with one strike, however none of them occur without input from the player (e.g. telling one of the targets that the other target has put the Kashmiri on them makes them meet). You get an achievement for each feat.

In Nightcall the game cleverly teaches you that mirrors do work in this game. The first easy opportunity to kill her is when Orson is showering. This causes the mirror to damp, allowing you to sneak up behind her.

Personally I love Whittleton Creek. The idea that the facade of a calm neighborhood can hide all the crime that surrounds it is interesting. I know this video is older, still outstandingly done, but had to mention something about mumbai. Hamish said you can't manipulate your targets much, but you can actually control them a good amount. Instead of Helping the other assassin (the cashmerian), you cam Be that assassin. Then you can just do their job for them and arrange a meeting between your other 2 targets. OR if you do some investigating you learn the cashmerian was offered a job to double cross his employer and take out one of 47s Other targets instead and arrange a meeting with the Other 2. There are other options too, but in the end you can set up meetings to make essentially Any target go to a set location. Plus there are a few Other meetings you can trigger without messing with the cashmerian at all. You really can coordinate events in a Ton of ways on that map, especially.
