BY THE WAY, The Edge Of Glory music video wasn't meant to be like that. Gaga was filming a kind of more conceptual video but in the middle of the production there were some misunderstandings about the creative ideas between Gaga and the director, Joseph Kahn and also, at that moment, the choreographer abandoned her so she had to stop the filming of it all and do this instead!!!
@VasBasil4 жыл бұрын
But how could Laurieann abandon her during the making of TEOG if she is the choreographer and co-director for you&i video which was released after TEOG?

TEOG is about being on the edge of life and death. The video ended up being a tribute to Clarence Clemons (the sax player) who died not long after they shot the video. They had an original concept with a different director, but apparently after Gaga found out Clarence was really sick, she wanted it to focus on just the two of them. The original director refused to change direction and didn’t even want Clarence in the video at all, so she fired him on set. I agree it’s one of her most disappointing videos at first, but once you know the reasoning behind it, I think it’s pretty beautiful.

Jo Calderone was this alter ego she ran with for a while during the Born This Way era, and I figure the reason he was in the You and I video is that he bore a passing resemblance to Luc, the guy she dedicated this song to. As for the different set-ups in You and I, my working theory when I first watched it was that she and her guy would keep finding each other, no matter *what* weird scenarios they end up in.

My interpretation of most of the imagery in You and I, basically comes down to people of different worlds being in love and trying to make it work. She's this high fashion cyborg in the middle of these corn fields, she's gone from a place like New York or LA that's full of art and commerce to a more humble place, she's a fish out of water and she's gone through a lot to get to this strange place as you can see from her bleeding feet, she's putting in effort to deal with these differences because she wants to be with him. Or if we take the fish out of water metaphor more literally she's a mermaid in love with a human and he loves her and he's experimenting to find a way that they can be together even if they're from different worlds and it should be obvious they don't belong together, but that doesn't stop them from trying. Basically Shape of Water before Shape of Water.

As a die hard fan, watching TEOG video for the first time was one of the most disappointing things ever! The mermaid was supposed to be on that video, and the whole hype for it was just huge. The Edge of Glory mv is supposed to be just her in freestyle form without any production or concept just a free young girl living with big dreams pouring her heart out to the world through the art of dance expressing her passion and love for music with nothing but her free spirit in this intimate moment with herself, that apartment complex has sentiment to her because its where she used to live and where it all started before becoming famous, wrote all her music and experienced all the hardships she had to endure that lead her to become the artist that she is today!! 💕I think the reason some didn't connect with it at first was because that intimacy was lost or not even noticed when trying to view the video through the lens of expecting something crazy and over the top to occur but the song itself is about this intimate moment with life making sense to its simplicity!!

I remember watching TEOG mv for the first time and I was a little disappointed and amazed at the same time. The fact that I was waiting for a big mv like Judas but also watching a simple mv and Gaga was still able to show her art. Sometimes the simblicity ''tells'' more and Gaga showed many times that she can be simple and still be artistic and talented. Like it or not, I'm glad people taking the time to see Gaga's work.

Why or what caused them to change the Edge of Glory video?
@GypsyRoseOfficial4 жыл бұрын
The original concept of The Edge of Glory was to feature Yüyi The Mermaid (way before Yoü and I was a single or even a video) a big underwater scene featuring mermaids, the New York Bay Bridge, A Latino love interest, military personal, scientists and doctors, these fire escape scenes, she was supposed to get her tail cut off in exchange for legs and explore NYC and meet her lover, etc. I think original concept was very inspired by the mermaid movie from the 90s Splash, plus The Little Mermaid is one of Gaga’s fave movies. They had even built the sets and everything for the video. But she states that once she got on that fire escape it didn’t need all that huge production. That’s when her and Joseph Khan got into the creative differences and parted ways since he wanted to go with the whole Mermaid story and she didn’t anymore. ☹️ it would have been iconic and Monsters were already so excited for the mermaid concept in the video that once the video premiered a lot of us were disappointed and confused. She explored this mermaid operation storyline in a live performance on a show called Le Grand Journal, but not a major performance. I’d recommend Born This Way at the Grammys!
@ImJustinPineda4 жыл бұрын
The video for The Edge of Glory had one day of shooting with Joseph Khan but they had differences and they scrapped it, he didn’t end up directing it and she just ended up simplifying it entirely and doing what she did.

I kind of wish that he had watched this era in release order. I think that by going from BTW to Judas to MTN and then Y&I and EOG, he missed out on the feeling fans had when we were so let down by the Edge of Glory after getting the videos for the first two singles. And then the hype we felt as You and I redeemed her and she left the era on a high note with Marry the Night.
@danielm61644 жыл бұрын
The funny thing is that The Edge of Glory video probably had the biggest budget, many sets were built and set up but there were many issues on the set and Gaga just ended up using one of the sets and shot a quick video there without the original director.

Gaga wanted TEOG’s music video to be simple. Her past videos had been intricate, elaborate and huge before this, and in this video she just wanted to celebrate herself and how far she’d come in terms of her career. At 25, she was the biggest superstar on the planet at that time. The song was able to shine, mostly because of its simple music video.

I always thought that the red light in the building in TEOG video is supposed to represent a fire. The video is her celebrating and dancing through her last moments on earth which is what the song is about and when she climbs back through the window at the end that’s her accepting her death and being at peace with it.

I think the guy in the You and I MV is a doctor who ended up falling in love with Yuyi the mermaid and tried to make her a human (all of the crazy experiments in the video) so that they can be together, and it worked and they got married.
