I've never commented on a youtube video before, but watching this video really changed something in me and I had to comment. Thank you so much for making this video. I finally understand why I'm struggling with procrastination. I thought it was me just being "lazy" but the facts you stated in this video could now actually change my life. Thank you once again, I hope to see a series on this topic as I believe it would help people like me get through their life. I also appreciate the effort you put into these videos, whatever you're doing is affecting people's lives in a positive way.

Yes because i realized i found myself subconsciously repressing my productive thoughts and purposely putting limits to my thoughts by saying that no matter what, in the end i can't understand more than that and the bare minimum is the only thing i can get from it. I've lost so many chances of learning more from a lecture because of my destructive thoughts, because of my low self esteem and anxiety from asking questions or daring to learn more, i purposely confuse myself when it gets too easy, thinking i can't get it right straight up, and i deny my potential by saying that I'm just lucky to get the right answer, and that ppl might think I'm cheating. It's because I've been emotionally abused and got my thoughts and feelings invalidated for so long that i don't even know what's right and what's wrong, i just don't know how to function properly anymore, or i am but not in the same way as everyone else.

Thanks please do more of those videos about sabotaging oneself this is exactly my problem I'm destroying myself my subconscious is always making me fear work because I experienced failure before and it affected me deeply ,now I just can't bring myself to even study , to even try ... Your videos are really helpful and I'm having trouble finding anyone who actually addresses the issue as effectively as you do .
@AnaMascara7 жыл бұрын
I am really sorry to hear that your subconscious has made that association between hard work and failure. You must try to NOT GENERALIZE this..And you must understand that hard work doesn't necessarily mean good grades..The RIGHT TYPE of hard work does. Maybe you study the wrong way? Maybe if you use a different study technique you will actually find studying more fun and actually have to work less for good grades? You won't know until you try...Keep trying...Keep adjusting your technique until it is perfect to you.. To give you an example, in high school I was always an A student. Always got 100% on pretty much all my exams. But in my first test at university, I got 50% (so I failed). Instead of thinking I am stupid and being afraid of even trying...I changed my studying methods. What I did before - that worked in high school - does not work anymore. So I adapted. You can do this too! ❤️ Yes you can.

I used to sabotage myself in the past much more so than now. I suffer from a lot of social anxiety, but when I am just responding to KZbin or Twitter, I do not have any issue. It is fun to post funny or informative comments. If you really enjoy what you are doing, sabotage takes a backseat.

@hypatiakovalevskayasklodow91954 жыл бұрын
Cause some people can't admit they are self-sabotaging? It is much easier to just say to yourself you're inherently lazy. "Meh I'm lazy what can I do that is just who I am" Or second option, to blame circumstances. Either way the person is shifting the control over their behaviour to something they can't control. If they admit self-sabotage then the control is in their hands. The ball is in their park and the next step is on them and the next step simply exists. Not saying no one is actually prevented by circumstances, just taling about people that actually self-sabotage

Unfortunately I can't really do that...Like I said in the video, we are all unique..and the practical advice would need to take into consideration HOW someone self-sabotages themselves, WHY they do it, ARE they willing to work on themselves and a lot of other personal factors that greatly influence the advice and examples I can give. If this topic interests you, I would highly recommend you check out this book: www.amazon.ca/Stop-Self-Sabotage-Improve-Relationships-Success/dp/0071603190 I think that they do a great job at giving advice that can be applicable to a lot of people. :) Thank you for understanding. ^_^

Thank you so much, Ana! I tried to figure out what was wrong with me for months!! You know, I was a really good student, studied when I needed to and was always focussed on my work. Suddenly, it changed. I began to procrastinate, sometimes not getting the results I wanted, thinking I was simply dumb. However, threre was always this little, quiet voice in my head which kept me going. Without that voice I wouldn't have been able to graduate from high school. I wanted (still want) to study medicine. But for that I need to pass a test to get into med school. Now, one year later I realised that I fell into the same behaviour traits as at times back then. Procrastination, feeling guilty and not worth or smart enough to study medicine began to be daily. I was frustrated, read a lot about what I can do to change this. Now, I found this video and I have to say THANK YOU! I realised that I was simply self sabotating myself the whole time!! Everyting you said was something I saw in me. I now know what is "wrong with me" and can fix it to fullfill my dream :) Much love from Germany 💜 keep it up! 💜

I usually start self-sabotage when I am overwhelmed or the task is too complicated that I don't want to even divide it into pieces and plan it. Not only stuff and real mess makes me self sabotage my work but also my thoughts when they become uncertain, weird, nonsense that I forget about my skin picking habit (which i got from mum and she does it for the exact same reason) and do it again which results in having bad skin. Thank god I am aware of it, but it is really difficult sometimes to stop even when I want it comes back within few second once I stop and it just happens unconciousily.I just hope I learn to stop doing it cuz it happens more often when write and am a writing lover.

Your videos are entirely different from the others 😁 I love how you always try to make us understand the cause of the problem rather than just throwing solutions on our face. I have been a topper this entire year and due to some unforeseen events I could not study for my final exams 😖 Now it is only 2 days away and the anxiety of not living upto my standard and failing is not letting me study when I can. 🙁 It is way too tough!
@hypatiakovalevskayasklodow91954 жыл бұрын
The point you made about friends baing angry because you are studying so much and not having fun with them - this is literally what I let myself do because of my ex boyfriend. Instead of studing I would be spending time with him on video chat or staying at his place over the weekend. And he never told me not to study explicitly, he did guilt me for not spending more time with him, he demanded we talk every day for a couple of hrs and with all else I just couldn't manage to squeeze in a study session between classes and talking to him. I just didn't have any rest amd I needed it. But I was convincing myself I can manage it all. So I started drinking energy drinks and coffee and sleeping less because I stayed to study for the first time in my life till 2-3am. I was a straight As student before and never have I ever studied pass dinner time. This messed up sleep made me cut some morning classes and soon I was skipping some classes to study for others and it all just went downhill from there. And since you mentionSubconscious: I did not realize what I was doing while I was doing it. I only realized years later that I was dedicating all my focus to him. I didn't know how to tell him I need more time to study I was scared he will think I don't love him...

Thanks for sharing your views on the subject. It's never easy to recognize negative thoughts, and it's not easy to try and disect those thought patterns either. It's part of our nature to want a better quality of life, but all too often these negative thoughts grow into obstacles that make the tasks and dreams more difficult to achieve. If I can tear down the obstacles one bit at a time, I recognize that I need to celebrate that when I feel discouraged. Blessings to you on your journey, Ana. Thanks again for the video.

I think we all sabotage ourselves many times. Possibly the best way to prevent it, at least for a while, is to take action. What do you think? As of right now, there are only 10 thumbs up, but it'll get there to 2k, rest assured. BTW: I was sure you were going to say that about the movie...
@AnaMascara7 жыл бұрын
Hahahah yeahh my dad loves that movie. I do agree with you that we need to take action, but I believe that to prevent it we must first accept ourselves and know our worth. Because someone that loves themselves...and I mean truly...the "good" and the "evil" within...Will not self-sabotage themselves. Simply because their subconscious has positive foundations and beliefs about the self. Also that whole growth vs fixed mindset has a LOT of implication in this..what do you think? P.S. I feel like if we had a podcast together it would be really SICK hahaha
@PayneMaximus7 жыл бұрын
I think it's true that accepting yourself is fundamental, but unless we are being irrational, we can't really know our self-worth BEFORE we do whatever it is that we want to do. What I mean to say is that anyone can, with enough time, self-talk themselves into thinking they are the best in the world (which would actually be a kind of self-manipulation or deception), but the only real value of "your value" lies in what you can accomplish. As an example, I can pretend myself to be the greatest musician in the world because I think I have the best taste in music, that my technique is paramount, blah, blah. I might even think that I make better music than, let's say, Michael Jackson. The problem is that Jackson did a lot of music, sold millions of records, and I haven't even released a single song. Does it really matter how good I am if I can't actually accomplish anything? Accomplishing something does not neccesarily mean that you are good at it (there are some awful musicians out there), but I think "not accomplishing anything" is a sign that you still have a long way to go before you can even raise the question about being good or not. That's why I think that in order to prevent self sabotage we must have some wins, not matter how small they are. Once you know you can accomplish goals, you can then see yourself as someone who gets things done, and only then you can start appreciating your value. I know, this that I'm saying is totally contrary to the Millenials' mindset, that they all think they are great because they were raised by parents who conditioned them into feeling they are "worth" and "special" by the sake of it, without putting in any work at all. Yes, I'm a Millenial, so I know what I'm talking about. I think that a growth mindset is definitely a requirement, sure, but it's not enough on its own. I can vouch for it, since I notice how all my coworkers and acquaintances of my age seem to have already thrown the towel in many aspects (working life, relationships, health, etc). If you don't have the Will to improve yourself and instead become just another gear in this huge machine that we call "society", then it's all over for you, and one day you'll wake up, be 70 years old, and wonder what would have happened if you had done things differently... I'm in for a podcast, just say the word!
@shree93257 жыл бұрын
Hi Ana, actually what I think is that, today in this workaholic world people are too much unaware of their health. I can say this, at least for my country, and therefore if they have job, then really they have good argue to not do anything other than office work. So health is the main thing what make me, self sabotage and secondly is the inertia before starting any new work.... It's just a feedback :)

You are so sweet. I am sorry that you have this negative view about yourself. A small homework I can give you is to sit in your bed - close your eyes and remember one time that you failed. What happened, how did you feel? Then open your eyes and say to yourself : BUT I AM STILL HERE. You are HERE..Even if you failed, made mistakes...you have a new day ahead of you..you have a lot of more days ahead of you. And a new day means a new opportunity to start fresh.

Whatever you do, do not panic or be afraid. Because that leads to MORE procrastination. You put the preparation off until the last minute...You procrastinated..Take accountability for your actions...learn from it...forgive yourself and start fresh! Today is a new day! Don't think about what you could have or should have done...Rather think about what you CAN do. 2 weeks is indeed a good amount of time IF used efficiently. Clear your thoughts, stop doubting yourself and focus on the PLAN to ace that exam. :) I am going to post a video soon about setting up an effective and productive study session. Maybe that will help :) But even after watching that you must remember that the only person that can help you...is you. ❤️

Thanks for making this video... My life has been a mess and I feel like a big failure...But now I have a better understanding of what I've been suffering through... I really wish you make the video about overcoming this situation, because I still don't know how can I get out of this situation... It's ruining my life, I missed out on a lot of opportunities and cancelled a lot of applications on last minutes just to avoid the troubles I might get in the future

I am really sorry to hear that my friend. The first and most important part of overcoming self-sabotage is to realize you are doing it. So I applaud you for taking this HUGE initial step. Afterwards, it's just a question of making small smart choices every single day. It's not going to be easy, because you often-times have to NOT LISTEN to your thoughts, to your doubts and to your fears and..just do it. Feel like cancelling an application? Fill out at least your name on the application form...see it wasn't that hard...then fill out the date...see, still nothing to worry about...and step by step, just start and keep going. 💝🍁 I will try to make more psychology-related videos that touch on this topics and hopefully they will help you out as much as they can. You are strong! Don't forget that.

I am also living in Quebec. I have difficulty because of French. So tired of always fighting for my success. Crying day and night sleepless.
