This game came out when I was too young to fully understand and appreciate it. I enjoyed the time I did spend in it, and feel like if i was a bit older when it came out I would have been serious about it. The music was always fantastic and I even downloaded some OST and wallpapers just because of the mood and aesthetics were so appealing to me, even if I didnt fully understand the game. I tried to give it a shot a couple years back, and honestly it just doesnt seem to have held up very well at all. only a few years later WoW came out, and thats the MMO that really caught my interest and sucked me in for over a decade.

@@MarleMMO I stopped playing in the middle of legion. The game felt like it became too RNG focused and overall just didnt have the appeal it used to. The sense of community and friendship development felt like it started to die at the introduction of group and raid finder. I noticed that instead of meeting people, and adding as friends and grouping up regularly, i would just play a single random dungeon only to never see them again. Or spend entire raids, BG and dungeons without anyone saying hardly a word. During BC era we would spend hours on ventrillo just talking before and after raids while doing random stuff. I missed that feeling and eventually lost interest.

@@MarleMMO Guild wars 2 has an amazing community. The game hasnt drawn me in the same as WoW has, and i play it very casually. but overall it feels like there are a lot of pockets of the community there that are super solid and awesome to interact and play with. Especially towards new players.

Much advice to dump as a Returning Froob! -there's in a chat channel for returning players with much help. Froobbot is more than just "Help!" -As an Opifex Dual Pistol Advy I dump IP into Perception and Agility. But do dump points into all 6 Skills until Level 20 then specialise. Also up (for me) Pistol, Off Hand Pistol, Pistol Initiative (you using Swords it's Strength, One-Handed etc). Also Treatment (for Implants) and Computer Literacy (for Belts and Nano Control Units). -Don't bother Insuring yourself below Level 20 as Babies don't lose XP. When you're too big to get into the Abandoned Subway it's time to consider Insurance Terminals -That Backpack is also Armour. -The UI is a drag 'n' drop job: once you get your setup how you like it it's saved user side so back those saves up! -And I have utterly forgotten the controls after 10 years. Luckily I have a notebook...

I'm really looking forward to episode #3. I played this game a lot as a kid, it is nostalgic to see all of the nano buffs, skill crystals, etc. A very unique game in terms of systems and setting, haven't seen anything come close to matching it since.

Dang, equip that belt in your inventory already, it will give you more NCU slots and some Comp. Literacy. 🤣 And you will need a lot of Comp Literacy once you meet ... THE GRID !!!! *_*dun*_*_ _*_*dun*_*_ _*_*duuuun*_* Also, AFAIK .. if you have your backpack in your inventory, it can be used as a container.

@@MarleMMO Oh ? I thought you were a returning player ? Well, get ready to raise your Comp Literacy skill then. Lowest access-point requires 75 Comp Lit, but it's not really until 90 comp Lit. that it becomes useful. Once you understand it, you will love it. Just be careful you don't pop out in an area where you are KOS to the guards.

Is the best game ever made in the history of the MMO would wish that someone would buy the game and just do upgrade to Anarchy 2. The pvp is great pvm is great prof do need some tweaking and the twining is just so good that there is nothing like this out there today.

Every mission description has "upload to map" as an option when you hover over it, this places a map marker on your planet map and way-finder on your compass ( you can place the compass anywhere on screen ) When you opened the shop vendor there was a sold items line on the window for you to use; You where detected by certain npcs but not the one that matters different lvl npcs have different levels of perception so long as you "sneak" past the guard dog you pass. The buy a lockpick quest doesn't complete until you open the vacuumed packed lock pick, you where only at the chest before "buying a lockpick" was complete, because someone took you there; had they not you would have eventually opened it and been directed there. I'm can see why things are confusing you, like I said the Arete tutorial was a 14 years too late afterthought but looking at the footage I get the impression this was one session of gameplay that you've edited and scripted after the fact, so probably you already know this by now.

@@MarleMMO Mind you, it will only place a marker on your map, if you have learned the map for the zone. aka. uploaded the correct map nano to your map system. Which requires Comp Literacy, I think. You should have been given some free newbie maps as part of your starter nano. So you're probably good .. for now. But once you start to move out into the wilderness of Rubi-ka, you may run into times where you don't have a map of the area. I think the compass will still show the direction, even if you don't have a map.

@@MarleMMO np man ... also, you will run out of IP points eventually, so plan ahead. For example, getting a nice Yalmaha isn't just about the money (though it is expensive), but requires some vehicle skill as well - And a fair lump of it.

Well, it's worth playing as F2P, but i wouldn't recommend subscribing, considering you can't just go back to playing as F2P when the sub. ends as it's possible in many other F2P games with an optional sub., it's a trap. Add to that, that there's no timely working Customer Support and that the monthly sub. price is rather high compared to the state (maintenance mode, or rather on life support) the game is in. AO could be a good game again, if they adjust their prices to a more reasonable level and come up with constant updates/patches for it.

Hey Peter! 💖 I hear you. In my pilot episode I demonstrate the very problem you're describing; I used to have a subscription yet now I'm locked out of my original account, so I started entirely over. Currently, the 'froob' status is all I need. :)

Reverting from paid account to fr00b would be completely unworkable in AO; your 220 /30/80 toon with alpha symbs and LE/Xan items/nanos the levels and items are not attainable to fr00b accounts; so you revert to fr00b and then what ? all your gear falls off and you lose 20 SL levels and 30 AI levels and 80 research level bonuses and 40 perks and 30 AI perks that made it possible to equip those items ? That's more work and headache that it's worth for anyone to figure out for zero gain in monetary terms. AO costs as much now as it did in 2001 and yet there is far more game for that cost than there was in 2001; there is nothing else with a monetary value that can claim that.

@@caloss2 Well, all they have to do is grant returning players access to the "Froob" AO areas, anything else would be blocked unless the player subscribes again. And that could be done by giving players with sub. some kind of temp. "key" that would let them travel to all AO areas, while without that key you can only travel within the "Froob" content. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. Besides, more veteran players running around in your game, which will draw in more new players, is always a plus. The AO sub. was overpriced in the past, and it's still way overpriced for a game that has no real development and no real Customer Support behind it. I bought Cyberpunk 2077 for 20€ not that long ago, and i can mod. the heck out of that game after playing it through, which will give me even more reason for playing it again and again. Or 10€ per month costs my Humblebundle sub.and i get at least one decent game per month out of that. 125€ for a one year sub. to The Elder Scrolls Online, Lifetime Sub. for Champions Online or Star Trek Online is less then 150€ when it's on sale... all those games cost way less then AO and are getting frequent updates and patches. Don't get me wrong, i loved playing the game in the past, and i miss AO and my account with all the DLCs i bought for it, especially the option to call down Mechs. and fight in them... but i'm not paying that overpriced sub. for an "undead" game. In short, what they want for an AO sub. and what they give in return is out of balance. Welcome to 2022.

@@TheWorryingWolverine AO is 109€ for a year, but I most newcomers are not going to go for that when they are just testing the waters. I've tried all the other MMo's since AO launched and none of them have scratched that itch and too many cheaper games are essentially pay-to-win (no-lifer to get for free) I think that 50p a day ( at monthly payments) for the best mmo ever made is fine. If we are talking a value proposition, well a quick trip to the movies for a couple of hours costs more or a couple of costa coffees costs more, in real terms the game is dirt-cheap.

Haven't quit! Still plans to cover AO at some level, yet YT and MMO playing sometimes don't overlap entirely. 🙂
