Hello I was anchored in the same bay this summer and just as you know if you go back one day: There is a patch of sand closer to shore a good holding ground in 10 mètres of water And if you swim (through the cave) to the next bay east, you ll find (south west ) a huge cave, deep and tall that looks like a natural prehistoric temple.....just magical And ;Yes....sailing can be : meditative, contemplative, philosophical, metaphysical ( meaning spiritual ) and highly évolutive... Love your boat, your story, you 2 and the violin Om and cheers

Great video of a hauntingly desolate anchorage. Your violin music added to the forbidding and lonely feeling you must have had as you entered that bay. The two of you were very brave indeed to explore those potentially dangerous waters. Glade to see your anchor held and you were able to sail away safely. I’m looking forward to your passage to Barcelona.

Thank you for another great episode. The caves reminded me of my SCUBA days passing through similar. I know space is so precious on board, but can't help thinking carrying a couple of pairs of fins on board would be a great advantage. Especially when checking the anchor. Keep them coming. Maya, your last musical selection played on the bow sounded like it should be called The Ocean Laments after seeing all the trash floating in the water near that bay. Do you know if that originates from cruisers or do the towns dump their trash at sea? Aladino, you haven't talked previously about anchoring so I will mention an alternative that I know as the Bahamian Moor. You drop more than one anchor (3) out in a radius from a given point 120º apart and attach them all to the bow. That way the bow remains fixed yet the boat is free to fare into the wind or current. In your bay you would expect the greatest "disturbance" to come from the bay's opening so you could lay down your primary anchor in that direction and two more 120º apart from the primary. With the higher canyon walls on 3 sides, the lateral pull on the other 2 anchors would be lessened considerably if the wind direction changes. There are some anchors that disassemble for storage like the "flukes" (Fortress) and even some spade anchors. I know carrying 3 anchors on a 28 foot boat can be problematic but this episode and others we find on other sailing channels emphasize what a problem anchoring can be while cruising. A second anchor could be carried on a second bow roller and a third flat fluke could be hung on the stern pushpit rail.
@SailingMagicCarpet4 жыл бұрын
Hy Brian! Thx for your input! But I would say this was an exceptional situation. The middle was more then 30m deep and the bottom of The Valley actually pretty narrow. So no room to deploy 2more at those angles. What helps often though is more chain, heavier size and one oversized anchor. Aladino
@bdphourde4 жыл бұрын
@@SailingMagicCarpet Then I am amazed that it held as well as it did with only one anchor! Doesn't that work out to over 200 meters of rode? Was that when the anchor was caught on something trying to bring it up until you over ran it some to free it? Then that was a perfect drop for that situation! Good job! I hope that continues! I am so amazed at how you brought that boat back to life! Did the owner ever tell you how that boat was dropped from the crane? Did the straps break? Because it impacted on the stern portion, I suppose it was the aft strap and when it broke, the stern fell and the bow slipped out of the forward strap. In retrospect it was fortunate to have hit on the aft portion of the keel because it was hollow (tankage?) and gave way. Had it been on the lead or iron part of the keel it would have driven it up into the hull and it would have crushed the hull all around and would not have been salvageable.

Wow! Another fantastic look at your Mediterranean adventures! I continue to think that you are on a cutting creative edge with your combination of visuals, narration and music, and I think you deserve a lot more viewership than you are getting on KZbin right now. I appreciate that you don't resort to cheap clickbait, but I, for one, wouldn't mind if you gamed the system a bit to goad the KZbin algorithm into suggesting you to more viewers.

Jack Herring thank you so much for this comment Jack. I’ve been experimenting with more well thought out thumbnails lately, and already I’m starting to see a difference. In the past two weeks we’ve gained 1.5k subscribers, which is a far steeper climb than we’ve seen up until this point. I’m determined to build our subscriber base much higher than it currently is, and to use thumbnails/titles to do so, but to nonetheless retain the integrity of the channel. So far so good. Thank you so much for your support!!

Maya is a mermaid on a Magic Carpet ride She sails and swims the crystal blue, where new adventures hide. Traveling the ancient sea, by water and by land. Exploring abandoned places, and wondering why they're there. Hidden caves and tunnels she explores with a searchers eye. Even when she thinks of imagined creatures lurking inside. Completed in her joy of life by her Captain Aladino. She allows us to share their joy in life and follow where they lead us. Her face becomes so tranquil, as the strings bend to her bow. Reminding us that music is required for life to flow. Maya, I thank you for sharing with us your life. As you escape the rat race, all its worry and its strife. As the sun sinks below the sea, it brings this thought to mind. God bless you both in travels, and bring you safely home again. Mike Roberson 01/15/19

@@SailingMagicCarpet - There are several layer of answers here. Cheap - buy some used diving fins from ebay. I free dive in the rubber rocket style fins I bought in 1984 for scuba. Alternatively inexpensive snorkeling fins. Better for free diving is some full foot "long" fins. If I had access to carbon fiber I would consider this approach and make my own blades. Regardless even $15 fins from Ebay work way better than your feet. if you were in Cali i would just give you a couple pair! :-) Have fun and keep inspiring! :-)
