I agree. I’m a huge fan of the original series despite the lack of diversity. The writing was fabulous and although they may not have had a diverse cast… it was relatable. The same as Samantha's departure from the show - the creative team doesn't properly honor the characters or the fans that have followed them. And they had some notice of his illness, time to write a fitting and beautiful and honorable storyline that would have given fans and the cast the opportunity to honestly grieve and honor him. That would have been a good time to have the show reflect reality - to have Stanford suddenly be lost to cancer without having told anyone because he did not want to cause his loved ones to be upset any longer than he knew they were going to be. Given that the show is constantly shoving age and age-related problems into view, I don't know why they shied away from honestly including Stanford's passing. You would think the writers would have scripts prepared in advance to deal with the possibility of the major characters' actors passing in real life, the way major newspapers have obituaries written in advance for major public figures and keep them updated to be prepared for a sudden passing.

On Harry’s sweating: when Charlotte first met him she was grossed out by how sweaty he was - dripping onto her divorce papers. So I think this was just a clumsy way of reminding us of one of his character features. Ugh - like we need something so basic to do that. What about his career? He should be top of his practice now, as should Miranda. And what about Steve’s bar? He could have more than one now, perhaps hosting stand up comedians and musicians in one, which would provide an in for a different location for scenes, transient characters, etc.. They’re missing so many opportunities with existing characters. All we’ve got is Anthony in a bakery, and that is so out of character for him to be getting his hands dirty. He should be working as a stylist for a magazine or company, giving Carrie more to do than the podcast where she doesn’t fit in at all.
@cra2y8a8y2 жыл бұрын
Also on the podcast: why is it as if she’s only just started working there and is such a noob? In SATC she had been writing her column for years and was confident in it. It’s like all of them are suddenly starting new career roles in their 50s and completely lacking confidence and failing.

Why does this show act like people of color are these strange exotic alien creatures that suddenly appeared in NYC one day and no one knows how to act or behave around them. The old SATC - granted wasn’t the most ethnically diverse show- but they had interacted, had friends, dated and slept with POC and it was never A THING (save for one episode when Samantha got between the guy she was dating and his sister). It’s like the writers read one buzzfeed article about how “sex and the city is problematic” and rather than naturally integrate a little more realistic NYC diversity - it opts to cram and shove black and brown women into storylines in the most offensive way possible. I’m surprised they haven’t introduced the sassy loud Puerto Rican and the wise old Black house cleaner.

I hate that we already established that Miranda was straight and had no interest in women (clarified in season 1) and now all of a sudden since they aren't creative enough to do something interesting with the Miranda character, they have to change her sexuality? This is a HUGE annihilation of her character, and goes against who she is. It was no big deal to come out in the late 90's and 2000's and she would have done so then,...why do the writers think it would be such a progressive idea now? Is it just because Cynthia is gay, because that's too easy. This show had seen its day, and that day is over. Let it be what it was and just let us watch it in re-runs.

Story lines that would have been one episode for the original are being dragged out for this, like Miranda and her professor, and Charlotte and this mom-friend. Steve was Miranda's compass & equalizer, what they've done with Brady is so wrong. Harry was Charlotte's equalizer as well. He kept her feet on the ground. The writers created partners for the ladies that emphasize their good qualities & kept them human. That is being completely destroyed. I will keep watching with hope it gets better.

PSA: for television shows that are majority white and want to incorporate black people, executives, please hire black writers, not just one, but like a few so you can get a realistic portrayal. That goes for any other underrepresented group. Also how they’re dealing with age is just sad! I expected them to all be thriving and living their best lives! That would’ve solved some of these weird, cringe moments. They’ve managed to suck the fun out of a show that was just so much fun even though it had a lack of diversity. This was a show about 4 white women and it was great. It didn’t need diversity; because everything doesn’t need diversity. This show was originally targeted towards white 30 something women and there is nothing wrong with that. The show Soul Food on Showtime was directed towards 30 something black women; it was a great show and I never thought they needed to add more white characters, gay characters or non binary characters to make it better. Forced diversity in already existing properties does nothing but ruin them because the woke garbage doesn’t fit in with the characters histories and the fans wind up scratching their head saying that character would have never acted like that because, insert identity group, walked in the room. These were independent women who did things their way. Now they go into a room and don’t know how to act like normal human beings because someone has a different skin color or gender identity. This is not how these women acted in these situations in the past, so why they got dumber instead of wiser with age is nothing more than a woke agenda getting in the way of portraying these great characters properly.

It turned out that this person is a soccer player in our city. I wasn't shocked at all, I was truly glad that this person was feeling comfortable in our city. I didn't know that he could speak my language, so I told him something in English. He smiled and replied in my native language. It was AMAZING. He's not only the only POC in a room, but in this whole city! And he's not desperate and he doesn't feel weird at all! Now, that's acceptance. We accept him, he accepts us, and it is totally NATURAL. Nobody has to fake anything. We're all the same under our skin. This is a situation that actually happens in real life, it's not forced, it's spontaneous, and if real life can write better screenplays than the writers of AJLT, then they should be really ashamed of themselves!

Everything sucked,but seriously: compare “being out there to date” to someone’s passing is absurd! I’ve lost my dad due to the pandemic and I’d be mortified if somebody called me out “comparing “ how offensive I was talking about this or that person of age dating.

i recently watched some of the old SATC episodes. the reboot is horrible. the characters in the older series had better lines. Miranda was actually funny and had some of the wittiest lines. She is now so unbearable. They have made her character so useless here. Charlotte...seriously needss to stay clear from the botox. Carrie.....boring AF. nothing good about this series. too damn woke for my liking

Both Cynthia Nixon and Kristen Davis are executive producers of AJLT, so that explains a lot. Patricia Fields confirmed that Nixon and SJP both think they know best to the point of ignoring/being difficult to work with the show’s lead stylist -because they think they know best. It’s pretty clear now that when hbo green lighted this new series, Michael Patrick King either didn’t bother to assemble a group of female writers (which was the magic behind, Sex and the City under Darren Star), or he just hired random writers who’s only job here is to write what SJP and Cynthia Nixon want them to write.

Miranda's storyline seems to be ripped directly from Cynthia's real life story which is a shame because it's not authentic to Miranda's character and all we've seen from her all of these years. Maybe had they written in a new character using Cynthia's real life experience it would have cone across more genuine, but doing it to the Miranda character feels forced and pandering.

Actually, the writers are a bunch of middle aged women, some who wrote for SATC...but got abducted by aliens who zapped their brains. They also are a pretty elitist group of snobs who think they're the Beatles releasing a new album, and the viewers who complain are a bunch of Yoko Onos.

everything about this show is confusing to me.....Charlotte realizing she has no black friends is one thing....Charlotte trying to find another black couple is another...mind you, Anthony already referred to Lisa as "black Charlotte" it's like the writers are trying to piss us off...inviting and uninviting deadra was honestly kind of mean...deadra seemed happy to come and it would have gave Charlotte an opportunity to actually have more than just one black friend...and I noticed the sleeves INSTANTLY.... maranda suddenly "killed it in class" off screen...so as I predicted, this is because shotgun-chae is just such a good influence on her...i knew they were going to make chea's character this beacon of wisdom when really they're kind of shitty..sharing weed with a teenager at a funeral...hitting on a married woman who you think 'needs to shake things up'...like just because ur an lgbt character who's non white doesn't mean u can just do whatever...Miranda suddenly having dinner with her professor and their sudden level of closeness IS SOOOO random...it would have been nice to see how the bond happened instead of being told it happened off screen. Carrie is once again doing absolutely nothing this episode....just existing and complaining - this new chick is CLEARLY supposed to give Samantha vibes and the way she turned that argument around on carrie- she should fit right in..because they are all assholes.... the way Stanley was written off was just completely forced and stupid...WHERE ON EARTH DID THAT LETTER COME FROM??? CARRIER PIGEON??? and why are the girls not talking to eachother FOR REAL??? Charlotte has said NOTHING to the girls about rose not wanting to be called a girl - is that topic only brought up to her gay friend because it's an lgbt thing???...Miranda has said nothing about her thing with Chae the characters are behaving they way they do IN THE MOVIES - dramatic for no reason and just childish over all... this episode was CLEARLY made to show each girl making her own friend of color they're all suddenly friends with non white women at the exact same time it jist doesn't feel organic at all and just like that....there were flavors added to the vanilla

“You can’t go home again”. “When the horse is dead,get off” I just KNEW it was all gonna be a woke shit show. I take no pleasure in being right. I never ever planned on watching ANY of it. All the cast is vapid,shallow and egotistical. All have the worst case of arrested development I’ve ever seen. I’m not going to watch any of it. I certainly enjoy your “take” on it. I’m 62. I know I am older and wiser than when I was in my thirties. NONE of the characters display any growth in their lives. The writing is for shit. Like some pre pubescent wrote it. Five thumbs down. I’d be up for a show about Samantha and how she lived her life WITHOUT the “girls”. Kim should get script approval. Writers should be age appropriate.

Loved the original series- they seemed like they were the "cool" ones. Now in this re-boot, in their 50's they do not seem to be aging well. This would have been such a great opportunity to showcase a group of women who are negotiating age gracefully and also gracefully navigating the social changes. But no- no gracefulness to be had in this hot mess. There is literally no "older and wiser" to be had. They have learned nothing- instead they have regressed. Instead of viewing them as trailblazers, I am embarrassed for the characters actions. The scripts repeatedly make fools of them. PS- there is nothing about the Carrie character that would place her in the podcast that has been created- she would have her own podcast based on what she was doing- she would have her own voice.

There was a kdrama a while ago that while it was filming/airing one of the actors playing a main character sadly committed suicide. So they had the other characters going on about their lives, and just missing him. Or he would send them a text. I love Standford but he could be missing for several episodes and it wouldn't negatively impact the show. They could've done something similar and then had it that they both moved away instead of a surprise divorce. It was out of character, but then again almost everyone on the show is acting out of character.

I just can't with the horrid, awkward and painful writing. In the past there have been several shows and films that offered up great writing, that represented the viewpoint and lifestyle of an "Over 40" Woman in a metropolitan a city. Among them: "The First Wive's Club" and "Absolutely Fabulous"....SUCH great comedic (and hearfelt) writing there...like you, I would love to hear what happened in the "And Just Like That" writers room...what a disjointed mess...
