I didn't own one for long, but the EQ is pretty flexible. Turn the gain and treble waaaaaaay down, then find a sweet spot in the mids and push to taste. Basically, don't use it as intended.

The NotSoGuitarGuy To be honest if you don't know how the Eq section works it will sound like a fuzz but try it yourself, take your time and you will find it very versatile when it comes to heavy music, no mild crunch with it

You'd be surprised, treble at 0 turns it into a monster. Whoever designed the treble range was on crack, but the rest of the pedal sounds really good, you just need to know the treble trick.

Glad that most of you have enjoyed this video! I know a few of you would have chosen different pedals, or might have set them up differently, but I guess what this video really does is show that different people like different things & there is no such thing as the "best" anything - only what you like & what you don't! These videos are shot completely honestly - the pedals are simply picked based on what we had available on that day & the person doing the playing (in this case Rob), genuinely has no idea what the pedals are & is under no pressure to pick/like certain ones. If you like this style of video, we have already made 3-4 to cover other styles of pedal & our intention is to do more to cover more pedal types. Cheers all!

I don't understand why almost everybody dislikes and laughs at Metal Zone. I'm using this pedal to even play Jimmy Hendrix, Dire Straits or bluesy tube tunes, but for most I'm able to make an awsome metal sound!!!🤘😈 You need to know how to control it's immense distortion capabilities, high trebly tones and complement it's sound with adjusting tones on your amp!!! even adjusting the volume of your guitar makes a huge difference. This is not one of those pedals which you plug in and expect to find a killer sound in 5sec. In my opinion Metal Zone can be VERY versatile, as long you know how to achieve it. When I bought this pedal in the 90s I was very frustrated with it, I remember my ears were bleeding at the beginning, but in time I learned how to control that pedal and now I'm glad I never sold it.❤️🔥

I’m sure other people have commented this but: Ola Englund did a review of the Metal Zone a while back and found it to sound MUCH better when plugged in to the Effects Loop rather than into the front of the amp. He described it as sounding “broken” when plugged into the front of the amp. Which is how mostly everyone uses it, and why it gets a bad name. When he plugged it into the effects loop he was completely speechless. It sounded great.

I'm sure he knows what he is listening for and he can do that very quickly, but for the rest of us, yeah, it just is like,,, for f sake stop already, haha. Just let us hear a second of that before you turn another knob. He's not the only one guilty of this but it does kind of make me want to just run in there and pull him off the thing. I think he's also just operating at a faster gear than most of us are in when listening to these. So it seems as if he's in panic mode until you get to know him. Then it's just Lee, haha. I know I do that sometimes at work when I'm just in a higher gear and moving more efficiently flying through things and slamming things around a bit. Everyone else thinks I'm panicking and royally pissed off. From my perspective it just seems like everything else is in slow motion. At those moments no one else can understand anything else I say until I down shift massively so I can speak clearly with room between words and such. Maybe Lee should just count "one one thousand, two one thousand" lol, or something between knob tweaks. He's still my favorite though of everyone there, great guy.

YMMV but I can dial in a better tone than on the vid ( set all the EQ's at around 1 O'Clock ), also I prefer it to the gain on my Valve King Mini Head and I A/B'ed the VK against a lot of other amps before purchasing.

If you want an infinite variety of metal tones plunk a EH Flanger Hoax on the back end of the Metal Muff. I've had that combo for almost ten years and I'm still getting variations that run the gamut from full face melting raunchy metal to heavy classic crunch with a touch of flange swirl (very very subtle swirl to wild if you want that). You can also replicate a cocked wah and have it swirl a slight chorus in there. The top boost function of the Metal Muff opens up a third layer to goof with. Try this pedal combo with a little analog delay for single note runs and lead into a Fender Twin and enjoy the endless array of amazing colors, tones from A-Z. The hardest part of using the two pedals is trying to remember all of the settings you discover and like.

The Friedman was my favourite because of the brightness, I like the cut that it has but I wouldn't feel disappointed with the Deizel or the 5150. Metalcore was surprisingly good and id definitely give that a try but the metal muff..... not my thing at all... it's just fizzy

The one thing I noticed is that every pedal in the "yes" pile sounded like Rob. Just goes to show how much is really in the hands of the player. When it's a tone you like it's always gonna sound like you.

I can't believe you cut the Keeley FIlaments and the Amptweaker.

Agreed. I have the Tight Metal Jr. and it is awesome but it does take some fiddling and the Captain didn't have the time.
@cullenjames75426 жыл бұрын
kawikaphotography I have the original Tight Metal (the one that was replaced by the ST) and the BE-OD. I like them both for different reasons. The BE-OD sounds a lot like amp distortion while the Tight Metal is very versatile. The Keeley Filaments is on my list. It may replace the BE-OD.

I don't own any pedals and use amps and preamps, but Boss has been a decent pedal company since I can remember, they keep a standard form factor, the Metal Core sounded unreal. Fairly decent results here. No one other than Lee makes videos fun, he is 100% of the boyish curiosity that makes Andertons videos more fun than anybody. He IS the modern day Benny Hill. He just makes people smile. Japanese engineering is not to be underestimated. Boss.

I was just thinking that you guys should do a blindfold pedal challenge. You should do a video for chorus, overdrive, and reverb.

I've been using the same EHX Metal Muff for almost ten years now and I just can't get away from it. It is frankly perfect for so many sounds.

The Friedman and the Diezel crushed everything else. Chappers, you have some odd taste in tone man.
@haydenmcmullen73256 жыл бұрын
From what I’ve seen, a lot of guys going for this tone have used a JCM800 or Dual Rec style amp pushed with a tubescreamer to tighten up the bass. Also, there are always more MIDS than you would expect. Scoop the mids in a live situation and the guitar disappears. Great vid!

You put the tubescreamer before or after?

Today I ordered a REVV G3 (which was released well after this video was made) or a Diezel Herbert 2... And the main reason was its size. I really wanted the Diezel, but the REVV G3 would actually fit my board.

I keep looking at the gorgeous headstock of the guitar. I just love the look of that dark wood. I have no idea why that sentence sounded dirty to me.
@Geographus6662 жыл бұрын
Personally I like the Fullbore, the issue it has is, that you really have to work to get the tone you want "just right" but you can get quite a lot of variation out of it once you are familiar with how to set it up. It's not a "put everything in the middle and you are ready to go"-pedal.

This video was awesome! You guys should do more of these with different pedals like wahs, compressors and over drive.

5150 is the name of Eddie’s famous Amp-head, and also in the United States, is commonly known as a Code for a 3 day psychiatric hold in a mental institution. (51/50) when you get booked for 72 hour observation you’re on a 5150. Thanks for coming to my Ed Talk.

I laughed when i saw the MT-2, I knew he wasn't gonna get a good tone out of it. Pro tip: Use the MT-2 as a pre-amp and bypass the amp's on board pre-amp, it suddenly has an amazing sound. You would think that Boss would tell you that it was meant to be plugged in the back of the amp and not the input.

5150 refers to the California law code for the temporary, involuntary psychiatric commitment of individuals who present a danger to themselves or others due to signs of mental illness. It has been more generally applied to people who are considered threateningly unstable or “crazy.”

Van Halen Album, and add or grossly disorganized to loss of your custody... Adults only, then by law you visit a court of law and a judge before 73 hours passes to see if the judge will increase the time you don't have custody of yourself... 5185 for minors back in the day...if memory serves...
