The floors creaked as it was a very worn building from the 1850s. Just getting there was an adventure jumping past the bums from the mission just down the street. I gotta say it’s going to be tough to be a guitar retailer in the years to come. Guitars were ‘reasonably’ priced before Covid. But ever since they’ve gone a bit wrong. Generally for understandable reasons. However the consumer is not richer and we all remember what these guitars cost only 3-5 years ago. It’s a tough sell!!! This statement isn’t limited to Gibson, I genuinely do wonder what the guitar market will do over the next few years and how retailers will cope with the price hikes as I can’t imagine customers will happily pay these prices knowing the lower pricing only a few years ago?

It’s really not “insane” given inflation. So instead of immediately pulling the trigger on one like I intended on doing before I saw the price increase, I shopped around in the $1000-$1600 price range instead. I ended up finding more value in the cheaper LTD EC1000 and took it home that day instead of the Gibson. Gibson is pricing themselves out of the market for normal blue collar workers.

For those of you who think the price is too high, I did some calculation. I bought a NEW Gibson Les Paul Studio in 1995 for $900. That equates to a 78% increase for the 2024 new model. In the same time period gasoline has increased 275%, food prices are up 85.1%, and overall inflation has gone up 106.56% since 1995. So, when comparing to most common consumables, the cost of a new Studio is a bargain!

İt's great that the Studio is back. It makes sense. Though, Take away the coil tap, the binding on the neck and the crwon inlays and lower the price to around 1.200$ - 1.500 $ and it would make more sense and distinguish the Studio as a real altermative in looks and price.

I get people complaining about the pricing, but a Standard in the US is like $2,800-$3,000, so by comparison a $1,600 studio is quite a bit cheaper. Not saying I want to spend the money on either one, but it does make the studio seem like a significant better value for a USA made LP single-cut.

Described as "no frills", but the Studio has coil-splitting, weight relief (which involves a little more time on the CNC), fretboard inlays instead of simple dots, and as far as I can tell, fret end nibs. Surely these could all have been removed (including the neck binding), to make it properly affordable.

@@1man1guitarletsgo $30 is way low when you figure the added labor for the gloss finish and the neck binding, plus the pickup upgrade. Builders make $40K and up for Gibson, so that's approx $20/hour each at minimum. Plus you're paying the retail markup, not just Gibson's direct cost. Guitar stores aren't selling these for no profit (and they shouldn't).

I've got to say that for a lighter, no frills Les Paul, it's hard to beat The Paul. I bought mine new in 1978 and it's been a real workhorse of a guitar that's never let me down. Gibson pitched it just right as their then budget model, concentrating solely on the essentials - excellent build-quality, materials and hardware. 😎

@onlyguitars2 ай бұрын
For people that say the Studio is very expensive. Why is there no issues with the prices of the Standard? Personally it sounds more sensible Studio 1.6k than a standard for 2.7k (or whatever the price exactly is) You pay 1k more for the standard, and the biggest difference is a hard case, binding in the body, a poker chip and the headstock having mop in the logo. Not sure what else between both is an upgrade or something you can obectively see that costs more to produce. And these differences are not 1k difference for sure. Like the LP Special, thats 1.7k or 1.8k , and that one has hard case, but no maple carved top, so actually the hard case is more expensive but not having map carved top is less expensive to do. Overall the price I think is great on the Studio. Having binding looks much cooler. If I was looking for an LP new, would consider the Studio for sure if it had a 50's style neck. Also as we all know of Gibson, you can try many different ones until you find a very good example. I would consider trying Studios as well, cos like the look , the white plastics as well (didnt like the black plastics on previous studios that much). Still, gibson is expensive I think for what it is overall. But it is what it is, and the Studio is at least kind of decently priced all things considered IMO.
