Taste, tone and talent.....that's Robben Ford. First saw him at a guitar concert in N. Hollywood, Ca in the 70's. I think he was about 14 at the time and was amazing. One of my all-time favorite blues players and, to be honest, I don't have many.

Robben can make the notes have such a definite impact and he never chocks out the tone. Brilliant player!

@@pebberbrown woa, and who are you supposed to be? All this negativity for what? He may not be the best player in the world, but the content he provides is entertaining and very high quality. Can you say the same for yourself? Calm down man.
5 жыл бұрын
@@pebberbrown Apparently you don't have any sense of irony. And from what I hear on your channel, no production quality or taste in guitar sound either. Too bad, wanted to hear how much better you play guitar, but I can barely make out the notes you are playing!

I’m Hendrix/70’s rock through and through but Robben Ford played a lick in Help the Poor (studio version) which blew my mind. It was a mode of a minor scale over an A7 chord which just rips the solo apart. Best lick I’ve ever heard. I’ve been playing that lick for 20+ years and can only get it right 1 out of 10 times and at about a 1/4 of the speed. That lick made me study jazz theory and expand my musical vocabulary but still can’t get that lick down. Thank you for opening my mind but destroying my ego at the same time Ha Ha!

The record has an immediacy and modern ethos because of the recording techniques and production values and it sounds awesome! Congratulations to Robben for his willingness to adapt and try something new with recording techniques. The player and what you play will rise above the gear every time- Les Paul jr and Pro Reverb is no slouch in the tone arena. Very inspirational interview, cheers!

I bought Purple House on iTunes and I have to say ... it's fantastic. You're right, Lee. His best album I've ever heard. Not just the songs but the production and arrangements are absolutely stellar. Thanks for turning me onto it.

Saw Robben at a small club once. While he was opening one song with an expressively delicate guitar lick, some drunk yells: "I CAN'T HEAR YOU!" Without hesitating or missing a beat, Robben gently replied: "Then shut the fuck up and listen." Didn't hear a peep from that drunken fool the rest of the night. Classic!
