It's the 2nd Wednesday of the month which means the kids and I are going on a field trip. Today we're meeting my sister and her kids for a hike/walk around Devil's Tower National Monument. Our ancestors were some of the first people to settle Crook County Wyoming and trips to Devil's Tower have always been part of life for us. On the way there we get to pass a house that was built with the remains of several area homesteads, one of which belonged to my great-grandparents, Fritz and Frances Blakeman. Their homestead was where they raised 14 children including my grandpa Kenny. (Grandpa Kenny Blakeman and Grandma Fern raised their 6 children, including my mom, right here in Moorcroft where we still live.)

Oops! I see I forgot to put something over the muted section of the prairie dog visit. The wind noise was so loud I thought I'd put something else there. I guess it's a silent movie now!

Very cool! Just visited here today while in town for Andrea's funeral, and really enjoyed it. Claudia was very entertaining, especially when she blew out a shoe lol. It was fun watching the kids' excitement.

Happy Days- The sun has shone for two full days (a rarity!) and I've had another lovely video from you! It warmed my heart to see all your smiling faces out in nature. What a fantastic location too! My family loves nothing better than being outside at the river or a nice forest. It's healthy for the body and good for the soul. Have a great day there all of you! Nearly time for my youngest to be finished with his English work and then lunch in the sunny garden! 🙂❤☺

I love watching your videos! You have such a beautiful family. Even with all the craziness that comes from a large family, you and Tom are both so patient and sweet with your children.

I loved the beautiful country in this video! You're so blessed to live in such wide open areas. I loved seeing the rock climbers, too. My favorite part was when poor Claudia bit the dust and lost a shoe. She didn't seem too fazed so that was good!! I just love your field trip outings with your kiddos!!! They will have the best memories to tell their own children someday. That's what it's all about...❤️

What a beautiful place to live near! I love being out in nature. I live in the suburbs of NYC, and that's where a lot of our field trips used to take us. I would have much rather been hiking or climbing devils tower.

So beautiful there , my dad went there on a hunting trip when I was young. I would love to vistit there someday. We had lots and lots of buffalo in the pasture behind our house for years, but the owners got rid of them 😢. Those prairie dogs are something too see, we went to Texas a few years ago and it was crazy how many there were ! Looks like y'all had a great time ! Love and blessings ! Xxxx kiM

Wyoming is very large and there are parts like our little corner that are heavily forested, but there are also vast areas of grasslands. Moorcroft is situated kind of at a transition between forest and grassland.

I love Devils Tower! We went to Spearfish, SD last year for spring break to visit family and we decided to go there one day! And it was worth taking a 21 hour car ride there from Tennessee to see the beautiful area! (Fun fact, I took a picture of the tower and I am using it for a church competition. I have won 1st place in the district and state competition and in July we will be going to Louisville, KY for nationals!) Anyway, I love watching your videos and seeing your kids, who are around my age (I'm 13), enjoying their lives and making great memories! (Sorry for the long comment)

Yes, that's the one. There's a little campground in the village below the tower. Every night they play Close Encounters of the Third Kind for any interested campers. We watched it again a few years ago. It's a pretty dumb movie, but still exciting to see our corner of the world on the screen. :)

Andrea do any of your kids get car sick? It doesnt. Seem like it .i thought about it when you were going around corners.did you understand solomon was saying about the stump when on the walk? I couldn't quite get it.
@TheMillsFamilyVlog
@TheMillsFamilyVlog 7 жыл бұрын
Asher and Sophia can get carsick sometimes. Asher moves to the front if he starts feeling yucky. Sophia has never complained, but a few times she's thrown up unexpectedly while we're travelling, so I assume it was car sickness. I didn't quite get what Solomon was talking about either. He said the stump was "placed." My guess is that it reminded him of Plants vs. Zombies. You can place tree stumps on the game board. I'm not really sure if that's what he meant, though.

Hi Andrea, i am not sure if you have a 4th grader either this year or this coming year, but there is a free program that we have used for two years with our 4th graders called Every Kid in the Park, found at everykidinthepark.gov it gives your family, and anyone in your vehicle, (as long as the 4th grader is in the car) free entrance into National Parks and Monuments across America! We live near Assateague Island in MD and its saved us $35 annual fee for both years we have used it and we have also gone to other national parks. They ask to see your 4th grader! Very cute program! They get their own card (we keep it in my wallet)

The furthest we've went (just the kids and I) is about 130 miles away. We've done that many times. As a family, we've taken many trips to California where Tom is from (1,200 miles) and we went to Kentucky once (also about 1,200 miles.) Of course, there are lots and lots of trips in between those distances.
