Many subscribers have been asking me to talk about Andrew Tate's kickboxing skills. I didn't know who he was but just yesterday I stumbled on a video with some guy saying "stacking gloves" for defense doesn't work. Turns out it was Andrew Tate teaching some kickboxing and I had to make a video on it.

@Enric0W

Tate is wrong, but he's not entirely wrong as many think, just guarding up and expecting the gloves to work like a impregnable barrier is extremely stupid, anyone who had 1 sparring session knows that using the guard is not just lifting your gloves to your face like it would work on a video game, you have to know what you're blocking, you need to move properly so you don't absorb the impact like a dummy. Another thing people don't consider is that when they spar they're usually using 16oz gloves, its totally different to fight with 8oz gloves or 10oz like they do in boxing, not only because its harder to guard up but also because the opponent is also using a smaller glove, there's so much about defense in kickboxing and muay thai that after years I still think that its easier to learn how to strike than it is to defend properly.

Also, fighting at 205 lbs is different than Gabriel fighting at 145. I respect Gabriel, but I really thought he would acknowledge this. Gabriel made a video about a fight he had against an opponent who was good at cutting weight. He said that his opponent was 20 lbs heavier than him in the fight and went on to describe how that weight difference made the fight much harder than usual. For example, Gabriel said he had his tooth chipped because he forgot to put his mouthguard in between rounds. I think this is enough evidence to demonstrate the point honestly. I do respect Gabriel's expertise in fighting and youtube content, but just go look at UFC heavyweight / light heavyweights vs light weights and you can see the difference in the brutality of the knockouts and overall damage done in the fights.
@paulpelle3046
@paulpelle3046 Жыл бұрын
@@Dirkzy but a 205 fighting a 205 is essentially the same as a 145 fighting a 145 bro. Weight classes are obviously very important, but the overall point here is that Tate is basically saying NEVER guard up, and all the bizarre crap about breaking bones etc. 🤭 Of COURSE anybody just standing there with hands permanently stuck to their temples is an idiot, and isn’t gonna last long in the ring, but to completely dispense with the Dutch guard, and other tight guards is just utterly moronic. The best defence is to not be there when the strike comes, but nobody can do that every time, hence why guards are absolutely essential. (Ask Usman, because his simultaneous parry and slip got him KTFO...he’d probably still be champ if he’d just opted for a tight guard for the last minute of the fight) 🙏

I''m always sceptical when someone talks in absolutes and declares "such and such will never work" there is a use case for almost everything. This is a particularly bad example, it's not always the best defensive strategy sure, but it is useful, and you can easily find plenty of footage of high level pros demonstrating as much. More than anything I hate the way he demonstrates it, wailing on his training partner who is clearly just standing relaxed, he might have his hands up in place but is clearly not bracing at all, feet completely parallel. Abusing your partner like that to prove a point or make a clickbait video is what really shows him to be a complete tool.
@Tom_Framnes
@Tom_Framnes Жыл бұрын
Indeed. Excellent comment, and depending on the context, even with mma gloves one can implement somewhat of an active shell guard done correctly. Petr Yan is one of the fine examples of how he utilizes and implements parries/long guard/ shell guard with head movement and mixes between them and adapts the tactics accordingly to the overall context of the fight. “ Everything works once” “ Fighting is relativity in motion, therefore never expect only respond as it one’s opponent within context that dictates tactics”

It's a useful guard.But I have allways found that people that use it as a there primary go to stance the easiest to beat . It makes there jab to slow and you just bounce in and out on them at long guard . It's so easy to see a punch leave from that guard you just pary the shot with your outstretched left and bomb your right into that hole and leave . Or smash leaping left hooks at the liver and fire right in as they react to the body shot and leave . When I spar and see o this guy uses high as primary I'm probably gonna find this easy . It was just a sparring, he was playing, you can't judge his fighting skills based just on that, + he was a kickboxer, not a boxer, they don't use that many feints as boxers do. If u can threw 5 lead hooks in a row without a set up, you do, Roy Jones did that many times beacuse he could, of course Tate is not a high level boxer, but he surely can fight and knows how to fight. I don't agree on what he said about high guard, but only if you ar talking about boxing, without gloves or with mma gloves that doesn't work, look at muay thai fighters in one fighting championship, they fight with mma gloves, but muay thai rules, and they changed their styles completely because of that.

He's technically correct. First time I sparred, I put my gloves up and kept them there, no head movement, no real defensive footwork. It worked fine when the first couple of jabs came at me, but when the first hook came the impact on my glove basically made me punch myself in the face. The other issue was how exposed my body was. It was easy for my sparring partner to throw a couple of shots upstairs to keep my guard up then attack my body. Nowadays I keep my right hand up, but my lead hand just kinda does it's own thing. It's more comfortable for me and I move a lot more freely. Having a high guard works, but not if it's your only defence. Get your head moving and stay nimble, people!

Gabriel this is great man! It’s literally dangerous a lot of these guys spreading techniques to naiv beginners who trust these people and train mainly on heavy bags and some light sparring here and there where you can get a way with alot of terrible mistakes. And even get the sense that they can protect them selfs and they’re learning self defense. When really they have no idea what work and don’t works. Try those matrix stances and guards in hard sparring.. hard sparring is where you get the reality of what works and don’t work. But then again you should spar hard at times and also with people who are roughly your same level and have an dialogue with when your a novic first years of sparring. But personally I believe when basic skill is learned hard sparring is a must for anyone wanting to real self defense or compete.

this is really refreshing to see after seeing so many high level fighters (particularly from the UFC) giving Tate props and claiming he is a legit high-level kickboxer just for the clout/attention they'll get from him

I do agreed that the standard high guard sucks without the gloves, but even in a bareknuckle environment, you can totally still cover your head by grabbing the back of your head and shield the head with your whole forearm and elbow. Personally, i believe we should train how we fight. If you're not planning to enter any competitions, then learning defensive movements that only work while wearing boxing gloves is a waste of time, better spend your time on stuffs that can work with both gloves and without gloves. If the context Tate was talking about is competition, yea he's being full of shit, but if he's talking about bareknuckle fighting, he should have just ditch the gloves while demonstrating his point

@QUAN TRAN He did said 20%, and Mike was keeping his hands up covering his face. A little bit of acting from both parties trying to prove that their knuckles and hand bones hurt after using high guard without gloves will make a lot more sense
@clownboyyyy
@clownboyyyy Жыл бұрын
you still use a guard while doing BKF, just you emphasize blocking with the elbows over the hands so the guard is a bit different. reason is because someone hitting your elbows will likely injure their hand. movement and positioning is still king ofc
@MusMasi
@MusMasi Жыл бұрын
@@jaketheasianguy3307 Bare Knuckled you can also break your own hand as well punching someone, I have had people break their hands even hurt their whole arm and shoulder as well from them punching me in the head and I was completely fine, I only hand time to tuck my chin, I guess I do have a coconut skull though, that' something you should think about if you are ever going to punch someone bare knuckled.

Yes, correct. Using forearms/elbows while grabbing back or side of head is excellent protection, speaking from experience. Make them punch the point of your elbow with their knuckles.
@kristianjensen5877

@@MusMasi Yep. The skull is excellent for absorbing punches. As long as we don't get it rocked and the brain inside rattled around, an attacker might do more damage to their hands than to us. Headbutting someone on the hand with the forehead as a punch is coming in is sort of a legit defensive option.

Let's be honest first: anyone who asks pimp, woman-beater, someone who brags how easy it is for him to bribe police or a scammer for legitimate advice on anything needs to rethink who his role models are. That being said, guarding up does work for it's intended purposes and is essential skill to have. I don't like to use it often because I always had dificulity relaxing muscles and tensing up is something I don't like to do, but is useful when rushing in a opponent with better reach or dealing with aggressive opponent for a short while. Most of people can't stay defensive for a while and not eat some of strikes. Some of them, on the other hand, can pretty much absorb for round after round without issues. That is why sparring is important. I like to think that there aren't good or bad techniques, just what works for you or doesn't works for you and context (type of opponent, rules of a ring etc.). But it is up to individual fighter to go on his own journey and eats punches and kicks until he has it figured out.

Do some homework and research lol, none of the above has real evidence. All you could do is find something on the internet or Newsfeed from BBC to said he has a problem. Do both side review and trust your own eyes, not media. Literally tons of his so called victim came out to proof that that’s not real and is for certain purpose. Everyone commenting “oh he’s teaching a newbie”....do you honestly think a newbie is gonna be able to slip/roll effectively in sparring? They’re more likely to just misjudge the attack coming and slip into a hook or something....at least by teaching them to guard up they’re getting used to punches coming at them and offering some defense....I can’t believe how much attention Tate gets he’s an absolute clown 🤡
