I own this guitar as my first 8 string. It is an exceptional guitar in my opinion. I personally love the idea that I have a teleshape, but absolutely nothing on it that will make people ask me if I play bluegrass or country. I didn't notice the neck "wedge" effect on my 8 string. I will say it is definitely one of the first 8 strings I ever felt good about holding. It looks more overwhelming than it feels as a primarily 6 string player. It is buttery smooth and the first thing I changed on it was the strings. I went with Stringjoy even tension 8 string set. The tone definitely improved and my bottom F# didn't sound near as "flubby". I will say I am in agreement with the pickup voicings. It is always on the hottest setting. I only find myself changing it on cleans.

@@deusexvideos I personally am still in love with this guitar! It just plays so comfortably and doesn't feel like a big chunk of wood. I have had some friends try it out and they said the same thing. I personally like that it doesn't sound like every other 8 string I played.

I have an LTD by ESP Eclipse custom T-Shape. It is a pretty decent guitar all and all I have searched everywhere and they just don't make an 8 string in this shape by LTD. Would you happen to have an Ibanez with a wizard 7 or 8 neck or an LTD? Is the schecters neck comparable in thickness and width. I prefer thin necks and the LTD and Ibanez are my top two picks as far as guitars Japan just knows what they are doing. EDIT: Also the body looks very thin on this guitar? Is that true? The LTD and my Fender tele are pretty thick the LTD weighs a whooping 8.8 lbs really 10 with the stuff I changed out I like the sturdy feel of it. My Martin is so light it feels like a cheap toy I play my much cheaper fender acoustic over it even though it's nearly 8x more expensive than the Fender. Sorry it's a lot of info but I usually buy guitars in person and by usually I mean always. So buying this thing online is off putting.

@@bobbyvandyke143 As far as 8 strings are concerned, I have played a lot of the affordable ones in person. I always end up putting them back on the rack because they just feel so cheap. That being said, I personally preferred the Ibanez 8 strings in the "affordable" line. The neck on the shecter I have its super comfortable. It is thin, but I would not say it is anywhere near an Ibanez RG Wizard neck. I do have an ESP LTD EC Artic Metal (6 string) that I love and it is normally tuned to B standard to play Avatar, Slipknot, and the like. All my other guitars are Charvel, Ibanez, ESP and a Fender Squier (first guitar). If I had to compare the neck of the shecter to any other guitar I played, I would say it is inbetween an Ibanez Wizard neck and a Charvel DK24 Pro neck. It was the first 8 string to me that really felt comfortable in my hands and not like a chunk of wood. It is super smooth and a matte finish so your hand slides freely. I think if you like Ibanez and ESP you should be fine, as I enjoy mine. If you are wanting a cheaper 8 string to get into, I would suggest the ibanez and budget for new pickups. I never cared for an Ibanez without DiMarzio's in them. That of course all comes down to personal preference.

My theory on why the pickup angle is that they’re doing the same thing Strandberg did with their t-style. The telecaster has a straight bridge and angled pickup, so this is the reverse of that.

I think this is simply a cost saving measurement to not have to angle the pickup or fit a 9 string pickup into an 8 string guitar like they often do with fishmans.

If Schecter is listening need a M8M style guitar done the Schecter way. Single passive pickup with bridge and pickup placed as far back as the m8m (no one else is doing this), ebony fretboard, neck through, stainless steel frets, 29-30 scale, locking tuners, flat black or any color just no poly, flat top, no neck dive, Schecter headstock (I like the Keith Merrow one). Ibanez 8 string headstock kinda fugly 😬

I own 7-string version of this guitar, and it's fantastic. I don't notice any flubiness. It is definitely very thick and full though, in a great way to me. The fanned frets feel downright amazing. The flubiness is something you can EQ out, but it's probably specific to 8-string.

At first I thought it was just the bass and kick trying to fight for position in the mix, but once I heard the guitar alone, I realized it was that pickup, and also probably a bit too much gain. It seems like it'd take some work to get this thing to sound good.

That demo was tight asf dude. I'm having my own Schecter disillusionment at the moment - I've got 3 of them, and my C7-Pro is just... doing my head in. I HATE setting up guitars, despite playing for years, and as with lower tunings and heavier strings the buzz is always my worst enemy. However, on trying to adjust the truss rod and raising, and lowering, the brige, I've realised that the frets aren't level! I have a Steph Carpenter 7 which is juicy as heck as a point of comparison it's a diffeent beast (despite the fact I still get buzz because I'm a simpleton). But, it's a real shame that midrange guitars essentially isn't up to par or are inconsistent as fuck. Maybe it's all QC, maybe it's my shit setup, but I feel as though guitars that are a touch more specialist, such as 7 and 8-strings, rarely come as they should - set up for beefy strings and chugging. Weird rant over.

I've noticed most multiscale guitars have the bridge pickup further away from the bridge than straight scale guitars. I usually end up putting an EQ in front of the amp and dialing it out. I'll reduce the 1K region and it helps. then bypass that when I'm recording so it cuts better. On the NDSP Gojira X, I'll just turn the tone knob to 10 o'clock and boost the frequencies I want after the amp to make it sound better for solo guitar tones.

When you have so many 8 strings in the same tuning this one has a very different character to all of them! I think they both should stay in the arsenal. For an only 7/8 string... Not sure if I'll recommend this, I'd recommend it as more of an alternative to spice things up

Wow this guitar just sounds like a massive wall of doodoo. Absolutely no note separation to speak of. It’s like a mix of “HHHHHHHHHHH” and “SSSSSSHHHHHH” sounds. Looks fantastic tho. I bet the fit and finish is on point as well. Schecter is pretty consistent with build quality.

It's one that appeals to me with the one pickup. One thing that i find pretty meh is the fact that it's black. I've seen it so many black guitars that it just bores me. I'd be interested to see how i like the fanned frets since I've never played an instrument with that feature before

I’m so confused that Schecter has so many models that are available in standard single scale models in the 6 string line up, that are only multiscale when they add strings. The reaper is the same way. I personally love my reaper multiscale but I would’ve picked one of these up for sure if it was a standard single scale and the pickup placement wasn’t wonky. It feels like they made the multiscale choice for an all style no substance guitar.

Big ass telecasters almost always have neck dive due to the top horn being shorter than where a typical strat strap would be mounted. What you can do to fix that is to get a black eyebolt the same size as the strap peg screw, and screw that in instead, that will extend the strap mount point further out past the horn, then i just put a carabiner on the end of my strap to attach it.

I know this ain’t the right crowd, but what kills it for me is the lack of neck pickup and a tone knob. Multiscale tele with those specs, and in 6-8 strings? That’s a Swiss Army knife for any gig on the planet. I know it’s geared for the metal guys, so it’s lean, but definitely bummed me out, as a metal guy who does occasional jazz gigs.

One thing that's important - and this isn't a comment on Andrew's tone (because he already did what I am about to note, from what I can tell) - is these are essentially anagalous to Fishman Fluence pickups. No, the stock pickup is not a Fluence; it's a Schecter active pickup. But it's designed for a more modern tone. You are not going to get a good tone if you scoop the mids and suck all the life out of the sound. This isn't 1989; stop trying to EQ like Sepultura's *Beneath the Remains*. Don't get me wrong, that's a great record. But these are not EMGs. A lot of people hear "active pickups", and they think they can EQ it like Metallica's 1st 3 albums. Don't do that, folks. You need mids. It's 2024. Stop scooping your mids. Also, while it's not 'required', using a thicker pick will give you a more tight, percussive attack, especially while palm muting. This particular bit is true of any guitar, not just of this guitar. A thicker pick gives more of that tight, percussive palm mute tone. On any guitar. Why wouldn't we want that? We're playing metal, not Taylor Swift songs. 😂

You can still scoop your mids and sound great. But not on an 8 string in drop E obviously. Dying Fetus's tone is still pretty scooped in C# standard. Not AJFA scooped but much closer to that than the all mids tone modern bands use on 7/8 strings.

The distance of a pickup from a bridge saddle definitely makes a difference, regardless of if it is rails, poles, actives, etc. If that were not the case, then a neck pickup and bridge pickup would sound the same if they were rails with that logic
