Rolling tips from a professional roller operator. 1. Only use vibe going up hill. It you use vibe on a steep downhill you will start sliding and loose control. 2. Sweet spot for compaction is 12 strikes (vibes) per linear foot. 3. If you do loose control immediately turn the vibe off. Also you got the roller so cheap because the drum is not driving like it's supposed to.

Another great video Andrew! Man, when you went for the roller, you took me back to my old road and parking lot days working for an asphalt contractor. It was tough in the Northeast - sunup to sundown from April to November but I don't have a bad memory as the tanned skinny laborer that could put down a lot of food and never gain a pound. I drove a roller similar to this one, along with dozers and dumps but also swung pickaxes, sledges, pounded in pins, shoveled and excavated. Never did much equipment repairs but maintenance was part of the job. On the debacle with the skidder and roller hi-siding off the road - you're not the only one with the problem. When that happened to us we actually had to cut a road/pathway like an offramp in a gradual grade and towed out that way. Best to leave stoning like your environment for the summer.

Da, the roller is a biotch when it slides.. My dad worked for a construction company and they had it slide down the slope, but it was steeper than yours, also it was heading towards a cliff of 61 meters free fall. Then he arranged two loaded trucks, one up the road, one down and an ex to help. They succeeded and saved the situation. Rollers have little side grip, especially on the rocky and icey surface.. It's fun to crush stuff, but take care on what you do, since fun can fast change in serious troubles. I hope you save it in the next attempt. Cheers.😎

@@photodan24 Da,da, my friend, I saw that. I meant the roller part.. Let's be honest, steel on frozen rocks = next to nothing grip. The tires are slick, but those still grip some, anyway nothing really grips on frozen rocky terrain.. More and bigger snatch blocks, and bigger trees to tie to!
@AndrewBrowner Жыл бұрын
he had plenty of pulling power in the skidder, that wasnt the issue, issue was the trees, the chains, the snatch blocks werent holding, he needs bigger rigging as stuff snapping like it did could go pretty bad.. i would of handled the situation the same as he did, come back and fight that battle when the snow and ice are gone i think the easiest solution is going to be to take the skidder up hill from the roller and get it wedged uphill against a large tree so it cant roll down and so its not in the way when the roller gets back upto the road, he had it there at one point but the skidder was blocking the way for the roller to come up one snatch block rated at 25ton, and some 1/2" chain i think he'll get it back up there would be nice if there was a way to lock the articulation as well, would help prevent it from tipping over

I recommend getting your big dog (largest excavator) to build a ramp which allows for a gradual pull up to the road at an angle. You can always return the road to its current form. Second step would be to create a block system to hold the roller when you need a stopping point and also to prevent a run away. To get your max pull strength, maybe anchor your excavator as needed and use the boom to pull it forward to its next rest stop…rinse and repeat until you’re out. I would seriously recommend the pull straps that Heavy D uses and save your chains for times that won’t snap them.

I was glad to see you stop and admit it was time to leave it for another day, mainly because of the slippery conditions and that it was getting very sketchy like you said.. If I was there I would have suggested having your D7 dozer with the winch on there as well, even if you just used it as an anchor while you reset the cable on the skidder...

Your clips always have so much more than the title. Was on the edge of my seat 👏

Prime example towards the end , if not to put off a move that should have been done in warmer weather, and not wait to the last min, i am shocked no one was hurt, but we watch this little feeler and made him a multi millionaire, lol

Always interesting to watch … a real cliff hanger at times had me at the edge of my seat … (no pun intended) That sinking feeling … I’m sure was felt by all … Just a personal observation but looks like you need a bull dozer now (or anything with great weight and tracks) to figure this all out or to be your anchor if nothing else for the logging winch … kind of the one - two punch required “maybe” … Great content Thank You

I thought I was the only one smart enough to have a flatbed for their rolloff truck. I haven't seen anyone around me with one. So glad everyone survived. I almost needed a new undergarment when the skidder started to go over the hill. I can't imagine how you felt. Understatement of the year...... "We're starting to think this isn't fun anymore."

I think it's very nice that Andrew has his little brother to assist him in various endeavors.

Its been a while since I recovered tanks so I'm no expert but looking at your roller situation two things came to mind.. Not only were you winching up a steep embankment but you were also winching up a steep grade..
