I have spent 4 years on Rolex EOI lists, for 2 watches, first 2 years for a SD43 and another 2 for a green OP41 - the result? Nothing! I’ve recently woken up to myself, I’m embarrassed for myself, a man in his 50’s - going in my local AD to suck up to some 23yo sales assistant for the privilege of spending AU$10 - 17K on a watch. I hate myself for the nonsense that I participated in. I donated AU$5k to charity and bought an Omega.

I absolutely admire your honesty especially reference the 23 year old sales rep. I popped into my local Omega shop and picked up a Seamaster Diver 300 on a steel bracelet in white (I could call it “polar” dial but then I’d be as bad as everyone else). The 25 (ish - poetic licence) female sales assistant was professional, engaging, witty and just plain nice. As part of my limited bargaining skills I paid retail but got the rubber strap and deployment clasp (about 10% of the overall value) thrown in for free. It’s bloody lovely and people don’t come up to me and say “is that real or is it a fake?” if I had the old Submariner on my wrist. I’m well chuffed with my Omega and I can feel slightly smug amongst the Rolex masses 😂😂😂😂😂

I also gave up on a no date sub, i was able to find a green seamaster just days after it wss released and that watch has seen more wrist time than any other watch i ever had, i just hope the rolex bubble hype burst as well as all their brokers.

Just received your Maen Skymaster collaboration. Although it says Watchfinder... it should say AMW 😅. What a beautiful dial and color scheme!! It's not a Daytona or a Carrera but it is perfect because it's just a nice for less the price!! All the best Andrew!! Keep bringing out new Collabs!!

Rolex was supposed to be a tool watch. Instead it got ruined by pretending to be a scarce ultra luxury watch. They made over 1.2 million of them last year so all the games they play are just market manipulation. I refuse to deal with the ADs and certainly don’t want to pay for Rolex’s over the top marketing campaigns. It’s pretty sad when the new Rolex every year is just a change in dial color. Pretty funny actually that everyone goes crazy over a different color GMT or Sub. Nothing special about Rolex , same watch, no new complications ever, no new materials and there is nothing exotic or special about 904L.

The fact they’re churning out 1.2-1.3m watches a year tells you it is NOT market manipulation. Rolexes are just so in demand. Even people with no watch knowledge want one when they have a bit of cash ready…Omega on the other hand offered me a discount on their beautiful world-timer.

I understand the buying of a Rolex mystique and the prestige of owning one, but I am tired of going to a Rolex AD and hearing "Out of stock, Sir" and being told I can be put on a very long waiting list to buy one. I'll just buy an Omega or a Grand Seiko watch and be happy.

How are you wasting time by waiting for something that is hard to get? Buy a Tudor to tie you over till the watch you want comes in - where is time wasted? You don't have to be in the store waiting! And yep, if you're in there every week or every month even, you're not getting a watch... You smell like a flipper. Go in, put your name down, go back and say hello or call once every three months. It's not rocket science.

From the LVMH group, I see Zenith as the best fit for F1, with its major strength being chronographs, and very advanced Chronographs at that. Sports car racing(LeMans, Daytona, etc.) seems to fit TAG Heuer better.

Rolex is like that CEO that fires a good employee for being economically inviable while at the same time parades record earnings around. These "Rolex is failing!" clickbaits might be another of their marketing tricks to make people rush to buy one (or rather, put their names on a list).

I've worn Heuer/Tag Heuer from my teens to today, for decades. But the switch from tool to luxury jewelry is a real turn-off for me. Fortunately all my Swiss branded watches were obtained around the year 2000 and earlier. 😮

Maybe it’s a coincidence, but in all the renders you showed, every brands watches were full of detail, busyness on the dial, a feeling of ‘fancy’, whereas Rolex all looked plain, boring, neutral almost. I personally see that as ‘timeless’ and perhaps that’s one part Rolex’s winning formula, one thinks (see what I did there? Formula one? Pfft. Forget it.)

Didn't watch the vid. So may miss your main point beyond the click bait. But my 2023 sub is still worth almost double what I paid for it from the Rolex boutique. I'll wait here while you tell me what other watch in the same price category you can say that about. Not that I want to sell it... But it's nice to have a classic watch, and one that holds its value. Everyone else can go waste money on a Omega or Tudor.

Heuer did a very good job with the recent redesign of Carrera. Shoveling the brand down the throat of F1 enthusiasts is definetly a move in the right direction, reintroducing the brand to what is basicaly its core buyer. The question is if the absurd price of the sponsorship will translate into enough punters to buy the damn watch to pay for it. I would guess no, but we will see about that in the near futre.

You'd be mad to choose a Tag over a Rolex. Had both and can tell you Tag are not in the same league as Rolex. Always bought my Roles on the used market with box and papers in as new condition and I have always made money when I sold/PXd them.

Rolex is Rolex. Maybe some people do not like the wait or the prices but it does not diminish the value. If you want a good “great” watch then it is Rolex. There are options in the market but still are not Rolex. Very simple

I think people are tired of not being able to buy a Rolex in a reasonable amount of time from a legitimate source at a reasonable price. Marketing and branding are very powerful, especially with people who aren't super expert or super passionate about watchmaking (and I'd say the majority of Rolex fans are in that category). I think this is a very bad time for Rolex to leave F1 because its fans who are not watch enthusiasts, but just people interested in wearing something recognizable on their wrist, will switch to something else pretty soon. Tag Heuer is pushing on the marketing side as well as Omega. We shall see.

I would have thought Zenith would be a classier brand for LVMH for hold aloft as the Formula 1 major sponsor. I own a Tag and love it, but I know it's a polarising brand with plenty of haters. Zenith on the other hand has been quietly going about its business creating excellent sports watches including chronographs without seeming to piss anyone off along the way.

Frédéric Arnault is the new CEO of LVMH Watches and will bring his new and refreshing ideas to ensure LVMH/Tag Heuer's sponsorship of F1 Racing will be successful. Plus his father and Tag CEO Julien Tornare will work together to succeed.

Paying for a brand’s big marketing budget, instrad of product quality, is rather foolish. Hence why I avoid LVMH and Rolex almost entirely. From Oris to Grand Seiko to Jaeger LeCoultre to….with near zero interest in Tag or Rolex.

A Carrera chronograph vs a Datejust? If one was drawn to the Carrera's style and functionality and looking to explore the pricing on alternatives I don't think they would be considering a Datejust. More likely the would look to Tudor, Zenith and Omega chronographs which are in the same price and accessibility zone. If you must compare it to a Rolex you should compare it to the Rolex chronograph but that shows the exact opposite of the narrative you're going to get more value from Rolex. The Daytona is on a different price tier and you likely have to go to the secondary market where it will be marked up even further. Then you need to worry about having it authenticated and inspected to remove any doubt you didn't just get scammed out of $20K+. Meanwhile you can walk into a mall and find an authorized Tag dealer and walk out with a watch for a fraction of the Daytona's price with no doubt about authenticity. If you are okay with the risk you can also save a good chunk buying the Tag on the secondary market where it will hold that already depreciated value well.

TAG just seem to be a bit more sportier than Rolex. Rolex are a bit repetitive in their offerings...if you can get one. Demographic of owners is probably diff too. Rolex seems perfect for tennis/horse racing. TAG seems perfect for F1/car racing. The fans are quite different, as are the watches. I can get 4 Aquaracers for the price of a Submariner, they both do the same thing! (unless you are an inhouse movement junkie) Both will lose 12-15 hrs over a year un adjusted! The mechanical watch is a lovely nod to fine craftsmanship but quartz watches tell the time better. I run a mechanical daily so don't shoot me down, I'm just saying fact.

amzwatch has set a new standard for replica watches. Their craftsmanship is impeccable. Its hard to tell the difference from the originals

Basically when I buy a Rolex I am also supporting and paying for formula 1 etc. Bad time keepers to boot.

The glassbox Carrera and the Monaco are really quite good watches, weighed down a bit by people's perception of TAG Heuer being a 'cheapened' brand. This F1 deal is *definitely* going to help change that brand perception and you can bet they're going to flog that F1 connection harder than Omega does with the Moon.

Great video 👍🏼. Even though Liberty Media are just a Monet Grabbing Machine, I can't help but think that losing the Rolex branding around the Paddock and Sir Jackie may lower the level of the F1 experience. 🤷‍♂️ That said, we all know this won't stop people rolling into the Paddock Club or parking their Yachts in Monaco. Who knows where is to go, but something is just a little off.
