Just in case people missed it, She walks to the front of the stage after, stretches out her right arm that is holding her sticks and then drops her sticks. *BOOM, drops the mic. The stick dropping heard throughout the world. As soon as she sat down at her kit, she knew where she was at. She knew what she was doing. She knew she was going to leave us with a memory. We all forgot she is 11. She showed us that not only she belongs, but she can lead.

Yeah you know what's almost scary to me about this kid. She's that great and that confident at 11 years old, and it doesn't even look like it's hard for her! We've all seen child prodigy musicians over the years and they're all great, but this kid it's something else.
@Alsacecypr
@Alsacecypr 2 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean! I wonder if the difference might not be he parents? With most prodigies, you can feel the parents pushing them, using their kid's achievements to feel better about themselves. But in Nandi's case, the energy for the music is coming from her, and the parents do what they can to support her. For them, it seems to be about family (perhaps they had to go through a lot just to be a couple?). It's the same with the little brother. Thomas is already almost as good an actor as Nandi is a musician. They seem to be receiving a miracle of parenting. With love and no pressure, they can fulfill their talents and feel joy when they do well at their passions.

I also like how it was her that pretty much ended the show with the final crash of the cymbals. She didn't go on too long, or just stop when the song initially ended, but she had the awareness to "feel" the right place to end the song and the gig, like she'd been doing it for 20 years..

When you watch it from this rear view kzbin.info/www/bejne/lXK5nHqgaZaFq6M a non-drummer like me can see that the kick-drum pattern alone would take some mastering. Add to that the 1/16 notes hi-hat work, the energy of the performance, the self-confidence in front of an audience of thousands and a professional band, the physical work she had to put in considering her size ... and she did all that at 11 years old. It's like the rock version of Mozart has just played with the Foo Fighters!

I almost cried with happiness the first time I watched this performance. Now... it's an absolute rollercoaster of mixed emotions. Especially with Taylor's son also present. She is brilliant and has a bright future ahead of her, but how can anyone else in this video ever be the same? I was having an insanely awesome and memorable day with my 7yo son on Friday, and then we got the news shortly after coming home. I can't imagine his world if he lost me right now, and I have two younger sons as well. Foos as a band aside, I just feel absolutely devastated for the pain and loss that everyone in this video is going through. I won't even speculate about the future of the Foos, but it's probably going to be very rough for a while. Ugh... just so awful... 😢

I know what you wanted to say at the end: a year ago she wasn't that tight at drumming. I mean she knew the song but it felt like she was getting lagging just a tiny bit. Then again she was playing along with the song. This time she was in control leading the band, a year older, must've practiced a lot and she nailed it perfectly. And so confident (I would've dropped my sticks twirling 😄) Edit: and if course having a pink glitter drum kit on the stage@ Foo Fighters 😂

I'd liked Andrew's comment, "Where can she go after THAT?" and had said, "She may keep playing covers for a while. But to become Nandi, she'll need to get past copy-catting and, without doing harm to the spirit of the cover songs, find new ways to reinvent them. . . and she'll have to write songs of her own." But his question was answered by Nandi herself. See her new cover of RS's "Gimme Shelter," done for Charlie Watts: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZXYYp2Ml8yFqLs

That cover is just brilliant. She laid down more tracks than years she was alive. She resisted the temptation to overplay her favorite instument, and that guitar solo she capped it off with was sublime. If the Stones ever do something like Metallica's Blacklist, that deserves a spot as is.

I know I'm a bit late, lol, but great video/reaction! It's nice to see an analysis of this kid's EPIC performance by a drum teacher. Puts a very cool new perspective on it for me, as someone who loves music but hasn't been a musician since my middle school/high school band days (I played alto sax though, not drums, lol). I've always liked the Foo Fighters' music, but ever since seeing the YT videos of how they react to/with fans at live shows, I have a whole new respect for them! Especially Dave and Taylor. Top class humans. I, like many people I'm sure, was gutted when I found out about Taylor's untimely passing. So sad, but it's nice to know his legacy and talent will live on through his son, Shane, and other people, like Nandi!

She was sincerely part of that band. "That band..." The freaking FOO FIGHTERS! She wasn't _just_ driving it. She _did_ drive the Foo Fighters; there were times when she chose the tempo, and the band sped up to keep with her. But there were _also_ times when she was going a bit too fast, and the band dragged a bit, and _she followed them,_ and on a foundational time-keeping instrument, that might actually be _more_ impressive. Both giving and taking cues to and from a professional rock band? The only step up from there to the pinnacle is finding _the_ band and locking up with them. She definitely has a bright future!

Question, she is very good at math and she graduate a grade higher with high distinction (GPA 3.9 or higher) so does math have any bearing on playing the drums, just wondering ?

Drummers do have to count to keep time within a beat. There are different "time signatures" of a song depending on how the song is written. There is the standard 4/4 beat, then there is 7/8, 3/4, 2/4 5/8 and so on. Counting is a huge factor for drummers and simple math plays into all of that.
