@@sukie584 True, but I'll bet that "Paint It Black" will transcend their prejudice against the early Stones, because: a) they like exotic sounds; b) the melody is, to use their favorite term, "impeccable"; and c) it's one of Jagger's most, to use another A&A preferred term, "charismatic" performances.

Mick Jagger wrote this song with future Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood at Ronnie’s house. They recorded it there with Bowie on backing vocals, and Willie Weeks on bass, Kenny Jones on drums. It’s a Stones song with very few actual Stones on the studio version. EDIT: forgot to mention Keith recorded over much of Ronnie’s guitar after Mick showed it to the boys, making Mick & Keith the only (official) Stones on the recording. Shout out to Dan Hartzog for catching that!

There are so many great Stones songs yet to go. "Paint it Black" would be a good choice for your next listen. "You Can't Always Get What You Want" is another classic. "Angie" is a different sound from them than what you have heard so far and is a real showcase for Mick Jagger's as a vocalist -- yet another classic.

@@byron8304 the stones play sloppy live on purpose. It’s sort of their thing. Keith never played the same riff the same way twice... I’m sure he did but at least it never seemed that way. The way tumbling dice was recorded originally makes it so special. And to me, a cover can never be better than the original. Not saying Linda’s is bad, just no where near on the level with the stones

Thanks for doing this one, guys. I always kinda blew it off as more Stones derivation - nicking little pieces from other artists - and it kinda is, but listening more closely to the lyrics (Alex nailed it), there's a great mix of self-deprecation and "What do you people want - blood?" And that goes very much to the heart of the Stones because they worked hard and made some great art, but they never took themselves or the business too seriously. Good job.

Guys, I got to see the Stones in ‘78 when I was in 5th grade because my uncle’s date stood him up. The opening act was Peter Tosh, an original Wailer (Bob Marley and Bunny Livingston were the others). I immediately fell in love with reggae. The Stones were incredible! So here I am, up on my uncle’s shoulders, watching ladies ripping their tops off and throwing their panties on stage while Mick prances around with this ridiculous outfit: a football jersey cut off at the midriff, cut off sweat pants with strings hanging off of them and those ‘70s tube socks with three different colored stripes. BTW Linda Ronstadt came out to sing ‘Tumbling Dice’ with Mick. My lawd, I was never the same!

No right or wrong when the music's good. These kids are just cuttin their teeth. Tackling the all of music in best 25 year period ever? No small task.✅ " It's Only Rock and Roll..(..)" Great engratiator to the catelogue. The Definitive Up- For-Days😳 Rambunctious 70s Stones! A must for any Rolling Stones starter kit. Save the deep cuts,( great as they are) for later. They've chosen a pretty wide array of their material . 💋Mick Jagger in perfect sneer form. Great lyrics ( based on Alice Copper, Marc Bolan and Bowie's shows & material). Ronnie Woods sound with fellow Faces member Kenny Jones drumming ( playing a Watts style beat) Willy Weeks.bass lines on this- Keith's all important rhythm➡️ Bowie joining background vocals.. Sounds like the party it was 🎉 Perfect for Stones newbies! 🥇

The Stones are very, very deep. I'd hit "Jumpin' Jack Flash" next, but there many others: "Honkey Tonk Women", "Miss You", "Angie", "Start Me Up", "Brown Sugar", and many I probably don't know. They're catalog is so huge. It was only in the last 5 years I heard "Dead Flowers" which is really good. There's a live version where Charlie Watts makes a mistake drumming, and you can see Mick laugh about it while he's singing. But "Dead Flowers" has some of the best guitar work I've heard in any Stones song.
